Now, I did some skimreading of Dr Johnson, with some more info for this thread (page nr between brackets)
- non adj shock towers changed mid 65 (42)
- 4 screw horn grills changed at 3468 (20)
- small round knob engine decklid release changed in 1966 (9)
- wedged door frame changed at 2805 (26)
- 4 screw dash changed at 1175 (46). This seems wrong, given our data
- 911 scripts introduced at 912 introduction (54), my guess this is March 1965, confirmed by our data

A lot of final chassis numbers or engine numbers can be gleaned from the parts book or spec booklet.
- The first window frame--presumably the "wedge" (901.542.005.20 for the left side) ran up to 911 coupe chassis # 302805
- The last "6 Volt Flywheel" (same starter gear teeth as a 356 or a 6 Volt VW) was engine # 901638
- The first style camshaft--presumably center lubricated--was used through engine 903069
- Solex carburetors were used up to engine # 903360 (21 Feb 1966)
- The 25 pound front bumper "reinforcements" were introduced with chassis # 301340

Txs for the good stuff received again. Since today we even have a car with 2 screw doorframe (txs Greg) and since yesterday one with the original exchangers (txs Milou).
I do not want to make it a never ending story with an ever floating scope, but feel we are not there yet. I thought I needed to add a few features still. Some I know have not necessarily changed during 1H65, but I feel they are still interesting as they define our period distinct cars. I am not sure I am opening Pandora's box here, let's see.
We are especially interested in very early cars. If you have links to picture series of cars auctioned or sold, that could help. A few cars in the overview I explored like that (250, 292, 567, 835).
Sorry for the ones who thought they have completed their input...... The indicator below shows how many lines you still have to go.....:p

Dr. B Johnson states that very early front seats resembled the 356 type. I do not know whether he just means the types with 3 screw reclining mechanism, or something else. Who can help?? If nobody knows, maybe we can compare some detailed pictures of <500 cars with >1000 cars?
Point 2 is the perceived black vent under the windscreen. I find them always looking black from a distance. Any opportunity to look more closely?

Here is the correct starter engine, where you see the housing over the axle. Later this shroud disappeared and the axle was just sticking out, while the teeth configuration also changed (different flywheel).

The carpet hooks, where the carpet was attached to the wiper board. in 1964 they were not there and I do not know when they appeared.

The tank color is a straight smooth grey, opposed to the textured grey coating for later cars (changed mid 1966, Dr B Johnson), I do not have good pictures to show the difference. Who has?
