'Idealistic,' huh? . . .
You really DON'T wanna go there . . .
. . . Operation Paperclip was the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) program used to recruit the scientists of Nazi Germany for employment by the United States in the aftermath of World War II . . . purpose of Operation Paperclip was to deny German scientific expertise and knowledge to the Soviet Union[1] and the United Kingdom . . .
. . . Truman's order expressly excluded anyone found "to have been a member of the Nazi Party, and more than a nominal participant in its activities, or an active supporter of Nazi militarism". However, those restrictions would have rendered ineligible most of the leading scientists the JIOA had identified for recruitment, among them rocket scientists Wernher von Braun, Kurt H. Debus and Arthur Rudolph, and the physician Hubertus Strughold, each earlier classified as a "menace to the security of the Allied Forces" . . .
. . . To circumvent President Truman's anti-Nazi order and the Allied Potsdam and Yalta agreements, the JIOA worked independently to create false employment and political biographies for the scientists . . .
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Paperclip
Had it not been for his much-prized/sought-after expertise w/ liquid-fueled rockets, WvB would have been in the dock at Nuremberg for the slave labor that was used/consumed to build his V-weapons. Then there were the Soviets. NASA wasn't even a choice . . .
. . . Father of the American Space Program . . .

thx Rick. I didnt wanted to go into politics. Also, the famous X airplane program by Bell started with German WW2 jets, the delta wing concept as well the cruise missile was first developed in Nazi Germany. Many space/airplane/war inventions of Nazi Germany were later put in use by the US…and Hitler's VW Beetle and tanks by Porsche were a part of it. Plus, Switzerland financed all this...

I'm sure Marco could get a better picture of Bloom as they service his car.
Does anyone know more about this car? I was on PCH in Malibu driving north a month or so ago and I think this car passed me - the one day I was not in my Porsche! The car I saw was probably a very very dark blue, not black, and did have the European Collectibles plate on it. It had one of the best sounding 911 engines I've ever heard. So I'd really like to know what engine/muffler it had. I did reach out to Jeff Trask at EC and asked him. He had no idea what car it could be. Maybe it's not this car, but maybe it is.
As I said talk with Marco and Tony at TLG in North Hollywood as they service the car.

Actually this is a bitsa, a late G series backdate, G50 87/88 that her husband bought for her 40th birthday in 2014. Its a bit of an odd backdate as window & screen surrounds have been bright anodised but fuchs remain G series as well as rear 1/4 panel.

it does not show the engine of chassis numbers BUT it does show the fourth number of the engine is a 0 not a 1 so that narrows it down
it also shows options 409 and 258. Depending on whether these were the ONLY options or not that narrows it down substantially
there were 11 tangerine Swiss delivery cars with an engine number under 1000
of these 10 had option 409 but only 4 had option 258 and only 3 of them had it in conjunction with option 409.
of those 3 only 2 (0027 and 0976) had no other options. the third (0474) had numerous other options including a sunroof and Limited slip diff.
IF it was a Swiss delivery car (likely because of the AMAG papers but not for certain) and from the information on the card
given that 0027 was made in October 1972 and 0976 was made in April 1973 I would suggest that (if all the assumptions above are correct) that it is 0976, especially given the 1973 dates on the AMAG papers.
i dont have much in my records on 0976 except that it is in Switzerland (or was relatively recently) and was awaiting restoration, the engine is rebuilt on another case and it has 930 / RSR brakes
maybe one of the Swiss members will know something more about it?
This is me and my cat driving the Coppola car back from San Diego, where I bought it. Also towing a 59SR.

@ haul: i know that Pic, but when converting tangerine in b&w, the RS in the background would be much closer then the car in front
@ Hugh: thanks for listing here; all this infos we can find in the book and on mycarrerars.com. but what i can not understand is, that there where absolutly no informations about Karajan bought/own this car in 1973- except the AMAG Wagenkarte...
must be a short relation, because 1974 he ordered the red 3.o RS and one year later the lightweight turbo.
Right now i know one person can remeber to see Karajan on a paddock somewhere in Europe; but he had no time to make pictures, because he was a driver and had to maintain his car :D
He just can remember the "nice colour and the never seen funny spoiler" and of coarse Herbert.

- Car from famous French actor, director and scriptwriter Vincent Lindon
- Nice Targa version, matching numbers
- Recent important mechanical work done
- No reserve
Having rolled out of Porsche's Stuttgart factory in 1970, this Porsche 911 was registered for the first time on September 10, 1971 in a French Porsche dealer, Sonauto. It is an interesting Targa version, powered by the 2.2T engine, which has been slightly lighter than its original one. The interior is in black leatherette with matching mottled carpets and the mat on the floor are in good condition. The meter showed 66,752 km. The dashboard includes a radio period. The car has just benefited from a complete mechanical overhaul at Sampaio. On this occasion, the engine was fully reconditioned, with the replacement of the seals, the segments, valves, etc. The gearbox has been checked and its tightness redone. The oven Michelin tires have seen very little use. The bodywork needs some care to fine its beautiful original aspect. The car will be delivered with its original Sonauto maintenance service book, original owner manual and its important file of invoices. The actor, director and scriptwriter Vincent Lindon.
The Porsche 911 was first manufactured in Stuttgart in 1970 and was first registered on September 10, 1971. It is an interesting targa version with a 2.2T engine and a sober "light ivory" livery. originally, since refreshed in a slightly lighter shade. The interior is in black skaï, with matching chenille carpets and protective mats in beautiful presentation. During our examination, the meter showed 66 752 km. The dashboard includes a vintage car radio. This Targa belongs to the actor Vincent Lindon since 2004 and has just benefited from a complete mechanical restoration at Etablissement Sampaio near Le Mans. On this occasion, the engine was fully reconditioned, with replacement of seals, segments, valves, etc. The gearbox has also been checked and its tightness redone. The 4 Michelin tires are little used. The bodywork will have to benefit from some care to find its beautiful aspect of origin and will remain then to its new owner only to take advantage of this attractive version Targa, coming from the actor with the 60 films to its credit, French director and screenwriter Vincent Lindon, who received the interpretation prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2015 and the César for Best Actor in 2016 . . .'

And he flew the "state" jet too. 707 and a then an L1011 Tri-Star.
I remember seeing the Jordanian state L1011 at the airport in Rochester, MN back in mid 90s.
They flew the whole family over and took over a wing of the hospital when someone comes in for medical work, according to my Mayo buddy. Don't know if that is still the case
He would bring the family and entourage to Jackson Hole to ski off and on in the 90s. His body guards could not ski so he enlisted some of the JH Ski Patrol to ski with the family. I worked for Rossignol Ski Co. at the time and would do private demos for him.
The Kardex of King Husseins car mentions a speed pilot.
Was this the Halda Speed Pilot or was it a special speed pilot of Porsche?

That speed pilot is newer than 65, so that model would not have been in the car when new.

David Beckham 1969 911

Beckham's McQueen replica . . .
'. . . David Beckham has splashed out £70,000 on a classic Porsche car – because it looks like one driven by his idol, film star Steve McQueen.
Becks bought the 1969 slate-grey Porsche 911 – described as a “Steve McQueen replica” – from a dealer in Preston who delivered it to him in London.
The original 1970 Porsche 911 owned by McQueen, which featured in his 1971 film Le Mans, was recently sold for £832,800 at an auction in Monterey, California.
Beckham has regularly talked about his admiration for the Hollywood legend, who died of cancer in 1980, aged 50 . . .'

Mickie Most was an English record producer, songwriter, arranger and singer with a string of hit singles with acts such as the Animals, Herman's Hermits, the Nashville Teens, Donovan, Lulu, Suzi Quatro, Hot Chocolate, Arrows, Racey, and the Jeff Beck Group.
Photo looks to have been taken in Mayfair London not far from Jack Barclay famous Bentley dealership -- I once had an office in Berkley Square and that pub was "a local". RAK Records (per the cars personalised RAK 8 registration plate) was Most's record label. Very successful in his day and had many interesting cars. Used to also have a TV talent show in UK and was thought to be very tough on contestants long before Simon Cowell persona.

Nothing very exciting about that part, I'm afraid. It's taken from a recent Biopic of Clapton ("Life in 12 Bars"), which was made with his co-operation and uses a lot of his photos and movies from the time.
The thing that was quite cool for me is that, when I bought the car and through the n years of resto, I didn't know about that bit of provenance. I found out by watching the movie (although I was tipped off about an Orange S in the film by a Porsche friend on DDK, so had a suspicion at that point that it might be my car).
I live quite near Mr Clapton in Surrey, UK, so if anyone knows him let me know - I believe he still owns the house, so we could stage a little re-enactment of my car gliding up the driveway...

The car was bought in 1980 when Maradona was 19 years old in Argentina. He did not have the 924 for a long time; in 1982 El Diez joined FC Barcelona and moved to Spain. The 924 has since seen a ton of collectors, one of which once wanted to sell it for $500,000 back in May 2010. Bizarre prices for a 924.
