29th December? 30th?
How about in the New Year? More guys around then.
Or how about a real Irish Pub that has Guiness :)
guess in the spirit, we can meet whenever and wherever there will be the most merry Early S attendees possible.
How about Thursday Jan 20th at 6h30pm?
You'd better git yer hinnie up here so we can pour some of that dark nectar down your throat. McSorley's is about as "real" as you're going to find this side of the Atlantic. And, what a great historic area of the City. I just love the old Cooper Union building.
Oh, I was up for this but the 20th is our anniversary, probably not a good idea for me to be in NY. Although, maybe I could get the better half to go shopping for a few hours while I raise hell with you guys.
Sounds like a perfect anniversary to me Paul ;) Actually, my life is so upside-down right now, I'm not 100 percent certain I can make it either.
I will surely try my best.

Lee and I will definately be going to NYC Jan. 20-21 for our Anniversary. McSorleys is on my schedule for Thurs. night, hoping to grab a few beers with you guys.
what better way to celebrate your anniversary than with a bunch of early S hooligans....come to think of it, 1/13 is an anniversary for me & Jood....guess we could celebrate together.....
Paul, on the 22nd, the Phili guys are having a dinner gathering....are you staying thru the weekend?

I'll try John, but at the best of times I have trouble enough remembering much of "The Workman’s Friend”:
“When things go wrong and will not come right,
Though you do the best you can,
When life looks black as the hour of night -
A PINT OF PLAIN IS YOUR ONLY MAN.
“When money's tight and hard to get
And your horse has also ran,
When all you have is a heap of debt -
A PINT OF PLAIN IS YOUR ONLY MAN.
“When health is bad and your heart feels strange,
And your face is pale and wan,
When doctors say you need a change,
A PINT OF PLAIN IS YOUR ONLY MAN.
“When food is scarce and your larder bare
And no rashers grease your pan,
When hunger grows as your meals are rare -
A PINT OF PLAIN IS YOUR ONLY MAN.
“In time of trouble and lousy strife,
You have still got a darlint plan
You still can turn to a brighter life -
A PINT OF PLAIN IS YOUR ONLY MAN.”
Wow! McSorely's is still going!
How did they get through the whole women's lib assault?
I drove my 289 '65 Mustang out form Chicago to Jersey the summer of '67 to visit an undergrad classmate.
We went to McSorely's and watched one of the Ali fights....took home a tankard, "Good beer, raw onions, no women"
Raise one for me!

So, table for ten or booth for four? Who's planning on coming?
i'll be there
plus 2, but I need 10 characters (I expect we'll have around 10 characters....)
The big problem is, my buddy Tommy Nolan has retired and moved to Florida. In the old days Tommy would gladly move aside a horde of Fabio-looking German tourists to make way for our motley crew.
So I think we find whatever seats possible at whatever table we can, and then expand the group as people trickle in. I will be there and an old friend of mine has promised to join as well.
We haven't heard from Karl. Perhaps Karl will explain what an "Ollscoil" is. Hint: It has nothing to do with Oil or Coils.
dbgb OMFUG ; ) 530ish
. . . I guess we qualify as "gourmandizers."
that was a nice evening. i am in the basement of smalls, which is quite small. nice to know 304065 is a jazz man too, but we gotta geddimto come and drive with us : )
Yep, Lewis Nash was at his best last night in the Vanguard. Sitting in that subterrenean cave I wondered about the acoustic layout: there's an HVAC duct basically in line with the flugelhorn. But the recurring theme hit me: Miles probably played to the same duct. . . you can no sooner remodel the performance space than you can knock down the bar at McSorley's . . . we value things for their imperfections, like a first edition book with its misspellings or an SWB 911 with it's tail-happiness.
Drive? I think I remember what that is like: restoration is one of those isometric things where your passion is sustained by the memory of the thing.
An outstanding evening, made so by the terrific company, many of whom came from far away. To meet such very nice people restores one's faith in the human spirit.
Wow that was heavy, time for some more coffee. . .
Lee and I had a great time, terrific seeing you guys. Always fun gathering for BS and car talk. This talk about taking the cars west is drivin' me nuts!
My son showed up just after you all left, we went to awesome restaurant named "Freemans" about 8 blocks away. Time for some more fun in the city.
I actually said a few things about cars in between the BS.
Mark, you aren't going to believe this, but I went to listen to that CD and all of a sudden my amplifier started throwing out a bunch of high-frequency transients. I think it was overheating due to being in an enclosed cabinet, even though there is a fan. So I got about 30 seconds into the first track and that was all. . . .but what I heard, I LOVED! And thank you again for sending it to me. When I get things figured out with the amp I will post up a full review. . .
Wish you could have been there. . . .
What?!!? You've gone all this time with no amp? Don't you have an ipod, a cd player in your car or at work?
And... I agree with Reza, John. You need to join us this year on a drive. It's long over due
This is the least I can do:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecrE80rnjhw
Speaking of Long Overdue, I feel a Powerful Thirst for some "Rich, Wax-colored ale."
The day has come round yet again when we must gather in the shadow of Cooper Union, hoist high some lights and darks and discourse upon important matters of the day. These include
Origins of the Euro Crisis
What is the Triffin Dilemma?
What was Reza trying to SAY with the "chapulin" thread, somewhere in there there was a great car but I got confused when he put up the picture of Tony the Tiger, I have to confess.
First we start off in the USA. I'm all in with you. Then we see California. Then all of a sudden St. Basil's cathedral and the gosudarsvenie oonivershalnieyeh magazinn. Sorry that's the best orthographization I'm capable of and I'm not switching to a Cyrilic keyboard. Then all of a sudden BANG, we're back in California. Is this a political statement or something?
Enough of that.
How about November 17th? (Please no subreferences)
This year we start early. I mean, how about 4pm? I always end up showing up late for these things, this time I'm going to be there early.
My bartender friend retired to Florida, probably dedicated a sun porch in my name after all the nights we used to spend in The Old House at Home.
You know the address by now. It hasn't moved since 1854.
....fingers xrossed to be there......haven't been in mcsorley's in years, not to mention CUM and GUM :) ( i am not switching to Cyrilic nore typing whole names )......but for sake of good coversation and beer ,i'll try to attend.
KG
Beer we have. The good conversation, well that is up to US! I didn't know that there was a "Centralni" as well. I remember going to GUM as a 10 year old kid and buying a plastic model of a Tu-154, which I still have, in the cellophane overwrap, today.
Anyway, I'll see if I can get Karl to explain why everyone is wearing open-toe footwear.
discourse upon important matters of the day. These include
Don't forget this one ;)
Ultimate Motor Oil Thread or Why we hate CJ4/SM oils
I could do 4pm, but I'd have to leave by 5:30.....any other day wouldn't be as bad.....
L
Yep, John, Centralnyj and Gosudarsvennyj . Both near Red Square. GUM was closer to Kremlin. I guess , that is what it made - GUM :)
TU 154 and still packed ?! No wonder you have all those porsche bits in ur possesion and in immaculate condition:)
Since you started it, John. Here is another puzlle for you : ГИТИс :)
John, now you have me scratching my head. Since we're talking about E 7th St., Ukrainian laundrettes rule !
ГИТИс, я забыл все русский язык. Я изучаю два года в университете, в Мичиганe. Сейчас я понимаю не много.
All right, how about November 17th instead?
Just seeing if you are paying attention. How about November 16 (шестнадцать, мой друг ГИТИс) that is a Wednesday. They have been open on Wednesdays for the last 157 years.
Where is Karl? Was he offended by my comment about open-toe footwear?
I don't want to say Karl hasn't been around, but I have noticed a reduction in his activities lately.....anyone else??
Sure, I could do the 16th.
Karl's been low to the ground, and under the radar lately. My guess is a heavy work load.
John, ,ГИТИс - Государственный Институт Театрального Искуства в Москве:) acronim is pronounced exactly like my name, only way russians can remember it :)
Your russian is better than my english ......
Jim, would you say he's more of an an A-6 or an F-117A? Hiding in "plane" sight or jinking left and right to avoid SA-6s?
"Flying Blue" or HAVE BLUE?
I don't care if he works too hard, as long as he shows up on Wednesday the 16th, beard shimmering in a majesty of perfection, striding like a proud lion in open toe shoes.
it is always a good day for blinis
Couldn't afford much more than a coffee there, last time I went (about 2 years ago) :)
I cannot comment on opentoe footwear as it's too cold, or majestic flowing rasputin like beards( I shaved mine off) :D
Basically, i will have to bow out on the 16th as I have family coming in to town and will be tied up running tour guide duty. As of Dec 1st, I will be free to partake of the wild nectar that is McSorleys Dark or Light.
John, someone will have to prod you into leading the conversation and speaking up a little, in the absence of loudmouths such as myself.
I am in for the 16th as well. Early suits me since it never feels there is enough time before everyone has to bow out. Perhaps we should also generate an email to include those of us who don't check the 'gatherings' thread often.
Cheers,
Mike
If you decide to push until December 1st maybe myself and a certain "tri athlete in training" could take the train from Philly and attend....
* * * UPDATE * * *
As it turns out the 16th won't work for me either now. So who is IN for DECEMBER 1, 2011, no excuses, carveouts, caveats, taking-one's-extended-family-to-Madame-Tussaud's-Wax-Museum-on-42nd-Street-thank-you-very-much's, etc.
There's no reason there can't be 2 or 3 gatherings. Next Wednesday could still work for many people. A quorum of two is all that's required and in Ireland, the barman can count as one :-)
When i said December 1st, i was speaking mataphorically. I'm in atlanta the 1st and vegas the 8th. Starting earlier is a good idea though. I could do Tuesday the 6th for example. Starting at 5pm or so. I know people run into christmas parties and stuff in December though.
All right, how about Tuesday 6th? Doesn't sound like we have a groundswell of support for tomorrow evening.
I am in a foul way anyway, front driveshaft on the DD blew the splines (like every other one that rolled off the line)
hey, *foul*, if you make it the 13th i'll join ya
UPDATE: Beers in Midtown this Sunday Night- 9/23
