Wait! There's more.
This Alfa was redic-leeous... Heidi is a great lady... RS60 was my favorite Porsche after these three :D and, the obligatory steering wheel shot — the coolest Monza I have.
GREAT pics Mark........
It was great to see you Mark. I couldn't help take this shot too. What a nice little car.
Here's a nice little Nardi that I found in the flea market at the track. Very light wheel.
Very, very light! :D 202mm, made by Nardi.
Zagato bodied Aston. Still, cool as hell to see in person.
Interesting to see the stress in the aluminum from being hand worked; almost grainy in places even after being polished the way it is.
This little 1951 Abarth was tiny. Looked like a 3/4 scale Maserati. Brilliant little Vignale bodied car.
In our Porsche camp right in the middle of the Sunoco paddock we had at least 10 R Gruppe members hang out and many, many Early S Registry people. Heidi's got some photos that I'll post. Hanging with Frank G most of the weekend basking in his post-McQueen glow. The stories are just amazing. Here's a direct quote- "If anybody asks, tell 'em Frank says 'Fuchs you'!".:D I got the inside scoop on the new owner of the car... Janis Joplin. No, really!;)
I took a short break from the track and went over to see my friend's 41 early cars. Oh my gawd, so may esses, so many '67 soft window esses. Wholly crap! Just blew me away.
Seems like we all liked the Lotus cars.
Now THIS is a steering wheel !!! - Watching those guys in the pre-war beasts sawing the wheel and leaning in to the righthander to No Name - Priceless !
I'm going to have to put this in the Satanic Detail thread as well.
The center of the Titanium bolts
on the 908/03 were drilled out to save weight !!!
HoleEE ShEEP !
Good to see you John and meet your dad. Gens, (oops) I mean Jens (pronounced like it's spelled Yens in case the rest of you Bozos didn't know:D) I don't know how I missed that Zagato Aston AND that Abarth ... I'll never forgive myself. Okay. I forgive myself. Love that little Vignale-Abarth. Meeting Frank G. and hanging out with him was pretty interesting. He's quite a character.
Awesome pictures. Wish I would have made it. Your pictures help me feel like I was there.
Thanks!!!
george
dang....... looks like I missed a very good time!
Yeah Luke, should'a' been there, you were missed. It was a blast. We even had a champagne induction ceremony for Dana. :D
Tony's VW.
Wow! Looks like a great event. Added to bucket list.
My good friends David and Frank and VonBulow. Just hanging out.
In the middle of the pile of parts is one of Damon's 906 shroud and engine tin sets, sold to Tony for his RSR. Spot-on perfect re-creation. That's Steve who runs the fastest and most historic RSR of the event. Got to spend some time getting to know him better. Great guy. As I write this it occurs to me that he has one of Damon's amber shroud sets on his car too. He wanted to save the original parts because he drives the car so much.
Great weekend all told, but it was 85 to 90 degrees and nearly 100% humidity. When the sun came out we just cooked at 100 degrees and I was friggin' baked.
Lots of nice early cars there running around. The racing schedule sucked. There were no races longer than 15 min and no enduro like they had in the past 2 years. Pretty much a car parade. Drivers complaining about a total of 95 min or less on track for the entire weekend ( 1 2o min and 5 15 min sessions). Lots of VSCCA junk this year.
Sorry to hear it John. We had fun.
Here is an interesting car. Extraordinary paint.
Wow..........
Lime Rock racing action.
Nice John. They always look better in motion!
Here's the thing- Heidi and I go to Lime Rock to camp and to see a bunch of friends that we normally only see at the track. We bring the camper and a truckload of my extra parts to help complete other people's cars and projects and maybe make a few bucks. Along with that we also see a whole lot of other folks that we don't see often enough and make new friends with common interests in old Porsches. PLUS, we see and hear these fantastic historic race cars and on Sunday another 700 or so other exotic cars in the car show that's staged most of the way around the track. That's always cool as hell. Sometimes we even find precious artifacts in the flea market. Check out the Longines 8-Day aviator clock. Lost 30 seconds in 6 days. That's going into my dash!
We bring coolers full of ice cold sodas and enough food for as many friends that want to sit down for Heidi's excellent cooking. We even bring cold beer and champagne... everybody's welcome. We have fun even if the weather sucks, or the racing sucks, or the politics or economy sucks.
There's nothing like the smell of race fuel in the morning... and there's nothing like the fellowship of Early 911(S) people and other motorheads. (biggass grin)
believe me, I've said to Jood a bunch of times now "family vacation will never, ever interfere with labor day weekend again"....I just can't miss this event again.....never ever.
thanks for posting all those photos, makes me even more upset for missing it.....
:)
Well said Jens. Thanks to Heidi and you for the great hospitality. Your traditional spot in B paddock is a gathering place for both the famous and the homeless :) This is always my favorite racing event of the year for all the reasons you mentioned. I haven't missed one yet.
Dana
An annual gathering...... I like it!
:):D:) Jens wheeler dealer :):D:)
More on this remarkable car. "Lightweight" or "featherweight" just doesn't do it justice. The body and frame together weigh just 74.5 pounds. That impresses the hellout of me. 1190.5 pounds and 360 hp. Yikes. That would get me to the Post Office quick enough.
Is that you or Jim driving? Great car.
These events get better and better, the people as well.
Jens and Heidi are to Grace what that 908 is to Light...
What also blew me away was how much 911 is in the engine.
A couple more ( Ha - I took that same picture of the description board )
This one as well;
Just in case no-one caught this detail -
St Christopher.
I didn't forget you :D

Jag-wire XKD views.
Great pics guys! Looks like a great time. Ref. post #3, pic#3 - I'll be chasin' him this weekend in the Bug T51's. Many seconds back....
Lots of great Porsches all day long
Random Porsche shots by your's truly
Lots more coming...
Here's 5 more
And another 5 more
I took over 700 photos last Saturday... hopefully, two or three were nice
A-the-the, a-the-the that's all folks
Outstanding work Mark. Our friend Steve's white RSR #65 (is it really a 1965 911?) was so dominant that they made him run rain tires in the dry as a handicap. That was flatly unsafe so he suggested starting last to appease the slower field. The car is so fast, and his skills so smooth that he looks slow out there. He is NOT slow!!
Great pictures guys, thanks. Between hanging out talking, and walking around with my mouth open admiring the cars, I hardly took any pictures. This was the first year that I haven't stayed for the whole weekend, and I can categorically say - one day is not nearly enough time to take it all in.
Steve's a pistol Jens... and a really good driver. I so wish I had the time, cash, car and talent to do what he does. Sadly, I have none of those. Boo-hoo!
Jim, I have a feeling as I get older and closer to retirement/dementia), my wife will have no way of keeping me from a full weekend.
Mark outstanding photos...... you even made the 2011 speedster look good! Thanks.
Thanks for the photos Mark. Like Jim, I get too glassy eyed looking at the sights and forget to take pictures. Gotta get the Airstream back next year Jim.
DP
Thanks for all the photos, guys.

With Jaguar the featured marque, I was surprised and a little disappointed not to see at least one of the factory E Type Lightweights show up. A minor complaint though for a fantastic event.
