Alpina . . .
. . . love these cars
Kindova under-ground thing, even among Propellor Heads --- Alpinas 've always had a much-lower profile that other German 'tuners' (like AMG or Hartge or Ruf), anyway . . . but their cars are pretty distinctive and have a reputation more for refinement if not all-out performance
Their cars 're only sold here in NA as big-ticket sedans or sports cars. A handful of personal-imports 'll show-up at car shows, but most of my exposure to Alpina is from seeing their distinctive road wheels on older BMW 3-series. Did put some of their suspension bits on an old e21 . . . and totally transformed the way it handled
Anyway, seems that Alpinas are getting more-and-more attention, these days --- and I've always like 'em, anyway . . . so? . . .

Too late, Alpina Brand was sold to BMW a couple of weeks ago. In future they will be focussing on classics under a new Brand name.
But Alpina was THE Benchmark for customer service.

I have had a couple of tuner BMW's. Truly underrated (although the price seems to be far more then when I had them). The Hartge was a spectacular car. The Alpina C2.3 had lost it's original engine as it was turned to a track car at some point and was running a newer 2.5L with Motronic. Sorry about the washed photo of the C2.3 but only one I still have when it had the original Alpina rims on it.

My e21 was an '81 323i with Alpina-tuned Bilsteins and springs. With the factory Recaros and limited slip, and then the staggered 15" BBS I added, it was one of the most entertaining cars I've ever owned. Great fun.

I had a lap in the Alpina 3 litre with the works driver circa 1972 at the Buchloe test track. He didn't say much but he sure made that car sing; cured me of the notion that I could become a "race car driver".
Lauda, finishing the last few hours of his contract with Alpina and not happy about giving rides to snot nosed customer's kids.
Drove the 69 2002 fully rally prepped car back to London for my father. Epic.

Would absolutely love to see any pictures of the car if you have any? I am building a historical database of sorts of early Alpina bits while putting my 69 2002 together with as many period Alpina pieces as I can. John

Absolutely bonkers 02 ! I had a ‘69 which I lowered , ran headers , twin side draft solex, BBS look rims and front spoiler no bumper ..it was a hell of a cool quick ride ..
Working on an e9 with ‘91 M5 engine and trans ..325 bhp should be a blast ! Bert
