"This 73 RS was delivered new in Milan, Italy in Feb 1973. The car was originally black on black and a (M472) touring optioned vehicle. It is one of only 62 RS's originally painted black. The options on the car were black leatherette and seats in Perlon -corduroy. In December of 1983 the car was imported to the US by Rick Popper who owned it until 10/8/1984 when he sold it to well known Porsche collector Prescott Kelly. Mr. Kelly showed the car in concours and used it as a drivers ed track car until the original paint failed in 1986. Prescott had Jim Newton restore the car and convert it to lightweight (M471) specs using all genuine factory original parts. The car was so nice he couldnt drive and enjoy it so in September of 1992 he sold it to Ray Alvarado in Los Angeles, CA. July 1993 the RS was sold at auction to an unknown buyer. In 1994 # 618 was advertised in HMN having been painted to the famous white with blue graphics RS color scheme when it was sold to Kerry Morse. Jim Oppenheimer of Toad Hall Racing acquired the car for his personal collection until he sold it in 2000. This RS still has its original engine and gearbox and features very rare original factory light weight parts. The car has been in a private Porsche collection since 2001 and has only been driven occasionally. It is an incredible car to drive and was displayed in the historical collection at the PCA 50th anniversary Porsche Parade 2005. This RS was used in a comparison test with a new RS America at Lime Rock in spring of 1993 that was featured in Porsche Panorama. Photos of the car also were included in PCNAs introductory press kit for the RS America. Car includes all of the ownership and import documents as well as service records."

Notes: Reserve not met at US $50,101.00; "This particular car was delivered from the facory on order to Italy in February 1973. The car was ordered as a 472 or touring version in light yellow on Pirelli tyres and with no further options. Italian law dictated a steel bootlid instead of the ducktail. Following a road accident the car was rebodied on a 1973 body shell and the car was relocated to South Africa through an immigant owner. The car was purchased in 1990 by us and all RS components unique to the original chassis was stripped from the car and fully restored. The donor car carries the chassis number 9113500104, the original 2.7RS engine number 6630684 and full original RS drivetrain. An original unstamped chassis plate is available. We retained the original donor shell color of Viper Green. In current configuration the car has accumulated additional RS options such as new period Recaros and plastic gas tank and sits on refurbished 7 and 8 inch Fuchs shod with Dunlop R rubber. The car has been totally stripped and restored to concours condition and has not been driven subsequently. Paint is perfect, no chips. Engine was stripped to long block and refurbished. It carries all the correct RS fittings including original 019 MFI pump. Heat exchangers and exhaust is new stainless steel factory fittings. All trim is new, even with new H4s. Original aluminium brakes, rollbars, correct small RS steering wheel, 160mph speedo, 7200rpm revcounter. Interior is new, carpets correct, new hoodlining, seats covered in Blackwatch cloth. The side stripes are in black positive decal and an extra ducktail is included with the car. Otherwise the car is immaculate and ready to roll. Many of the original RS cars have been rebodied over time so this should not detract from the desirability of such a car."

This RS (#441) was discussed quite a bit in this thread. Bill Noon added a lot of information about the intersting history of this car.:)

that car is on ebay now and after looking at the build plate, i'm don't think that is the correct build plate for the car which possibly means that that car is not a genuine RS.Quote:

Just this week I have been examining albeit,by way of photos an RS under consideration and witness the very self same vin plate although with the added nomenclature for SC after the 911 ..
I am basically just saying give the sellers there due objectivity until sufficient
info is produced before lambasting them ,thanks Bert :(
i was more trying to raise awareness because i don't think it is fair for uninformed potential buyers to walk into this car without being aware of that information. it could be a very expensive mistake! i said it was a possibility that the car was not genuine with the implication that there could be an explanation for the incorrectness of the plate. most likely the seller is not aware of this and there is no malice or deciet at play, on his or my parts.Quote:

big mistake!
Thanks for those pointers ,I can attest easily overlooked by the uninformed ..

I will be calling to get some info as I have done in the past...(Fantasy Junc),

Also look at the rivets, those are not original either. The seller doesn't show photos of the truck VIN stamping or the engine # but does list the production #. This can be used by an interested buyer to confirm the originality of the car.
That car has been on eBay a few times from the same seller. I have see it advertised for 125K, then 138.5K and now 199K Euro's....No wonder it 's no seller, especially with all the modifications done like RSR suspension, black trim, race oil cooler etc.

Celebrating 10 years of motor car and automobilia sales at Quail Lodge, Bonhams achieved nearly $9 million in total sales, the lack of several ‘big-ticket’ cars in comparison to other houses leading to a comparatively lower overall total. One of the higher sellers was this 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS Touring formerly in the collection of the late LA Times publisher Otis Chandler, selling for $271,000.
Derek- Is that correct car for sale (0197)?Quote:

Speedo KM reads 6983 That is 106983 KMs converted to miles is 67400 miles. This RS runs and handles great with
only a few small details in the paint. This RS is priced to sell and has all the original numbers and original hard to find parts. Engine and gearbox are stong. Syncros are great. Suspension is tight. Car has been repainted its original color as some point in its life. Drives great at highway speeds and around town.
This car has spent a large portion of its life in Japan which is one reason for the low mileage. Always appreciating and exciting to own and drive!"

Price is $6500. Miles 90,900. Wide body metal w/whale-tail, Original interior except for new carpet, everything else rebuilt in 1999. Driven about 900 miles since. Garaged/started/driven every few weeks. Burnt a little oil last time out. I believe from sitting. 68 Engine

Not likely to be a '68S engine, so I am guessing this is another '66 911 that someone thinks is an S because of the heater designation on the aluminum data plate. I'll give him a call. I could have my trailer at his location in one day's drive.
Edit: I called him. He is to send me several pictures by email.
He said the title says it's a 1967. He says the VIN shows it to be a 1966 (VIN = 302496).
It has fiberglass front quarters (:eck:). He said the interior was all original except for the carpet. The heater is new and works well.
It's a 5-speed. It has some rust bubbles at the point where the whaletail is attached to the lid (and probably more else where, IMO). He bought it 9 years ago from the owner who did the work you see in the photos.
It smokes after warm-up (rings, I'd guess). I'll follow-up when I get the pictures. I certainly don't need a "project" car but I am a sucker for this kind of black hole. :D
I know most of you are much more educated in this than I am. It's just that a $6000 +/- early 911 is fascinating to me. I think I can retrieve the car for less than $500 (I own two trailers and a good tow truck). I sold my business so I don't work anymore. Isn't one supposed to spend their retirement years buying early Porsche cars? :D
OK, here is the oil burning engine:
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...raR/66911c.jpg
An engine number:
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...raR/66911e.jpg
The car's VIN:
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...raR/66911f.jpg
Front:
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...raR/66911i.jpg
Rear (yea, it's ugly, but I can fix that):
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...raR/66911k.jpg
The rear fenders are steel while the front's are glass. It supposedly has a new suspension under it. It will need an engine rebuild.
And, no, I don't care if you buy it first. Just give me first shot at the Porsche that you may need to sale. :D
BTW, I live in Georgia. We pay no sales tax on cars purchased from an individual. I can bring this car home and spend $20 for a tag. It's old enough to be exempt from emissions testing.
Please flame away. I owe you a cold beer if you save me the time and trouble (or more if you see something interesting). Thanks.
Vintage,
I could easily see some potential with this SWB. It does look like a project; if it is nice and solid you may (like you said), have a very well priced track car. Those fiberglass bits may sell for some decent money and then you can buy some correct fenders. I do enjoy a risk every now and again but there is nothing better that a PPE though...;)

This is a great chance to buy an original SWB 911 SOFT WINDOW TARGA Convertible. These cars are hard to come by and most of them do not have original engines, wheels, etc. This car is original and would make a great candidate for restoration or with minimal work a Driver. Please read the description and look at the pictures. I have more pictures if you want them, just let me know. I am selling this for some one else but should you have any questions email me.
Exterior: This car has been repainted from the original Irish Green, to Red. Paint Code is 6806 This car does have rust as shown in the pictures. There is some in on a fender, floorboards, rockers, one door, etc. It will need a new floorpan. Rear torsion bar tube and area as well as the battery area are in great shape. Also needs front brakes and tires (too old). the previous owner has spray painted the chrome black. the paint removes easily.
Comes with a nice set of 4 original FUCH's.
it runs ok.

Here is a rust free 1967 911 Coupe (SWB) that was a California car until 2004. This US model coupe serial number 308073 has the engine s/n of 6273310 on a matching color codes (6608) Aga Blue over a henna leatherette interior. The car has gorgeous new OEM paint in its original color set off by a correct and newly installed interior and carpets. The dash pad and door panels are perfect and are like new. The car is nicely optioned with a ultra rare electric sliding sunroof, tinted glass, gauge package with external temp gauge, 165 x 15 tires with steel wheels, Nardi wood wheel, Bursche exhaust, new stainless heat exchangers, and a fresh rebuild to the Webber carbs .The car just had a major service done last spring. Great looking car that runs and sounds super strong.
Thanks for posting that, Peter. With an asking price of $35.9k this SWB with electric sunroof and drop dead color combo looks, on the surface, like it could be a decent opportunity. I figured someone here may know it or perhaps want it.

Wow, that's a huge price for a RS Touring, most have to do with 'when road tested recently, it started promptly!!!! Must be pretty rare for a RS then;)
I will eat a broom if it fetches that sort of money..
Interesting though about the AT engine, did Porsche rebuild engine number 6630900 that must have come from another RS and sold it on? I don't have Konradsheim book at hand, so I can't check if that engine number has ever been in another RS. Anybody know how Porsche did the AT engine deal?

Tangerine Touring model which came originally equipped with sport seats L&R (although it seems to have 'lost' its radio & antenna).
Hi Andy,
I saw that chasis listing but 139 doesn't have a sunroof listed so I dismissed it as our eBay Orange mystery first series RS does have one.
Okay Cees, give it up. Which chasis # is it? :D
Brian, I am still in the dark as you on that RS. The guy never replied on my question so to reveal the number we have to wait until somebody sees that car in Essen, end of March is that show I believe. Sorry guys!

"1973 PORSCHE 911 RS TOURING COUPE
--White with Blue Graphics, 47,000 original miles, 15x7” & 15x8” wheels.
This Carrera RS serial # 911 360 1189, Engine # 6631154, Gearbox # 831137 is a matching numbers example. It was restored to Lightweight specification in the late 1980’s.
This RS is proper, honest, straight and well maintained throughout and drives as it should.
This RS is available with recent ownership and maintenance history and owner’s manual."
Prices have been FLAT since July of '07. These cars have stumbled before. They got into the big numbers in the late 80's and then sank all the way back to "reality". $195K is top dollar "by the book" where there is no "emotional correction" figure.
It could be "rest/test period" or indication that a correction is in store. This particular car belonged one of our members. He's quite pleased to have made this move out of it and into his new toy.

Originally Sepia Brown now light yellow with green. Someone here should buy it and change it back to Brown. I'm pretty sure you would have the only original SB RS on the planet.;) Will be interesting to see if it sells.

Nice Brian, I wish I could buy it as a sister or brother car to my 1410;) I think this one is the very first RS with the shorter rear trailing arms, or was that 1406?

Ok, let's see here:
$2K for the softop assembly
$500 for the targa bar top and chrome base trim(maybe more..)
$400 for the targa top core
$1500 for the alloys
$250 for the hockey puck horn button.
You can probably part the rest and hopefully break even, and get those key parts for a resto of a more valueable car!

I have seen that RS being advertised on eBay for the last couple of years. It started back then for €125K, then 138.5K, 199K and now €210K....And it never sold, I don't understand the logic, it doesn't sell so lets bump up the price..?:)

Hah!
the white/blue car above is mine now, 1189, and I love it..based on the recent trades,(295k for the canepa car) . The recent sale on the EC car I understand was a driver..to bring it up to mine would take 80k.. I think I did well, the only way I would sell it is for the true lightweight M471 I'm looking at..none of the above cars listed were M471 optioned cars..does anyone know of any recent sales on those?
You could check on the price of this one for sale at Autofarm here in the UK (on sale for a long time). I don't know the price. No affiliation.

"1973 Porsche Factory RS Carrera in Concours Condition.
1973 Porsche RS Serial #9113600492. One of the First Series Lightweight cars converted to touring specifications prior to leaving the Porsche Factory.
This car was a bare tub complete 100% rotisseries concours restoration performed by world famous Scott St. Peter of Carrera 6 in Pasadena, Ca. This car was his personal project so it was subject to the best and most original restoration possible. Every component on the car was perfected to as original and in concours condition.
He reconverted the car to its original l.w. specs per its homologation requirements utilizing only factory components. Even the rare RS Lightweight seats are original and perfect. The front and rear Lightweight bumpers are factory original.
The Numbers:
• vin #9113600492
• Engine #6630507
• Transmission #7830468
**Color: Grand Prix White with Green graphics
**Mileage 500 miles since restoration.
** Featured in Excellence Magazine Feb'07.
The engine is a factory RS engine that was renumbered (at the factory?) with the correct original motor number - done with proper factory stamps- This car is so well done the motor is not an issue and the price is circa $70,000.00 less expensive than a recent comparable car so the price is adjusted accordingly.
All tools, books and services. Everything is brand new on the car with less than 500 miles since its concours rotisserie restoration. Again, all factory original lightweight parts were used during the restoration. This is one of the finest RS Carreras available on the market today. It is priced according to market conditions. This car is out of the David Mohlman collection.
.
Carrera RS Background
The Carrera name was reintroduced from the 356 Carrera which had itself been named after Porsche's victories in the Carrera Pan-American races in Mexico in the 1950s. The RS was built so that Porsche could race it in the FIA’s Group 4, which demanded that a certain minimum number of production cars were made. Compared with a standard 911S, the Carrera 2.7 RS had a larger engine (2687 cc) developing 210 HP (154 kW) with MFI, revised and stiffened suspension, a "ducktail" rear spoiler, larger brakes, wider rear wheels and rear wings. In RS Touring form it weighed 1075 kg (2370 lb), in Sport Lightweight form it was about 100 kg (220 lb) lighter, the saving coming from the thin-gauge steel used for parts of the body shell and also the use of thinner glass. In total, 1580 were made, comfortably exceeding the 500 that had to be made to qualify for the vital FIA Group 4 class.
Carrera production started with chassis number 9113600011 (produced in 04/1972) till 9113601590 (produced in 07/1973). There were only 1580 original Carrera Rs's divided in roughly three production batches of 500 each. Of those 17 were homologation specials, 200 were Sports versions with M 471 code, 1308 were touring version with M 472 code, and 55 were racing specials coded M 491."

"This is an original example of a 70’s RS. It is a great driver and lots of fun while also being highly prized by collectors and sought after internationally by sports car enthusiasts of all stripes. A classic!
The Carrera RS is one of the most famous and most desirable Porsche models ever built, and over the years come to be regarded as one of the finest sports cars to emerge from the 1970’s. It was designed with ambivalence very much in mind; the engineer wanted a car that could be successfully used on the race track, yet which at a moment’s notice and with no modifications could be equally used for shopping or long distance travel. This example was restored in the late 1980’s and modified to be the light weight racing version with engine number 9011061015R."
New text:
"With only 18,714 kilometers driven, this rare and very low mileage 1973 Porsche Carrera RS comes with original Dutch registration papers and documentation. The VIN 9113600893 matches the engine number of 9011061015R referenced in the documentation. The chassis number, engine number and white with blue accent paint livery were independently verified by Coys of London and Automotive Restorations. Porsche built 1,590 Carrera RS 2.7 models between 1972-1973. This is an original Touring model that was converted by a Porsche Dealer in Holland into Lightweight specifications. Fastidiously maintained by a loving owner through Automotive Restorations, this car wants for nothing mechanically and has been shown at a variety of Concours events since arriving in the U.S. in the early 1990's. Carrera RS's are among the most sought after and desirable Porsche's ever built and also provide an exhilerating driving experience and iconic looks. Voted among the 25 most important cars by Automobile Magazine, Carrera RS Porsche's combine collectibility, driving excitement, ownership pride and real investment value with appreciation opportunity."
New text and updated photos on 26-Aug-09:
"This is an original l973 Carrera RS Touring model that was converted to lightweight specifications by a Porsche dealer in Holland using the correct Porsche lightweight factory kit. Porsche built only 1,500 examples of the famed RS Carreras between 1971-1973. Mechanically in excellent shape, this RS is particularly collectible due to its very low mileage, with only 18,714 Km logged onto its odometer. The car was acquired by its current owner from Coys of London, who documented the low mileage (please see copy of Coys description in photo section). The car was last painted in the 1980's and the paint demonstrates the familiar orange peel of paint work done to approximate the factory presentation. There are various minor finish blemishes from the car's use over the intervening 20+ years. The car is visually highly presentable and is shown in the photo section being exhibited at a recent Greenwich Concours d'Elegance. The low hours of use and mileage make for a car that will provide years of reliable driving pleasure with all the classic excitment of a period 911 RS. The fuel injected 2.7 litre boxer six-cylinder engine is strong and purposeful with an exhaust note that will excite the senses. It provides an exhilerating driving experience while also being highly prized by collectors and sought after internationally by sports car enthusiasts of all stripes."

Rare opportunity, for sale RS 9113601539. Beautifully restored to lightweight spec, painted white with blue graphics by past owner. Excellent running 2.7L RS motor (non-original case), 5spd limited slip. Fuchs 7&8X15 wheels with new Dunlops. Black interior also converted to lightweight with RSR style single hoop roll bar. Current Florida US title yet this RS was originally an Austrian delivery. As with so many of these cars it is a converted touring that was originally viper green. Excellent driving car.

That car is close to the end of production and within 20 of my own RS. It would be great to know if the car has the original engine and if it is Silumin. Would there be any way possible to get a photo of the underside of the engine case? My French is poor. It would not be up to asking for such a detailed photo. Any chance you could ask?
Many thanks

Apples and Oranges
Yes, but apples don't cost 2X what oranges do. :D
Tom
In terms of performance, etc - how much of a difference is there between an M471 and an M472? Is it a material difference?
Tenths, hundredths, thousandths.
Materials used (or not used like undercoating) and thinner metal on early cars and thinner glass. Otherwise it's just "numbers".
And we've all seen what numbers do to values. IMHO a 911-T is as good a car as a 911-S. Same chassis, same transmission, same interior, same engine. As a percentage, how much of the engine in a 911-S and a 911-T is different? Pistons, valve sizes. MFI Pump tuning and porting of the heads. That's not much.
On an RS there is NO difference.
BTW: One of our esteemed members here told me "back in the day" they used to sell guys on buying "T"'s because they could make them as fast or faster than an "S" for less money. My kind of gear head! True story. :p

"Described by the vendor"
Is that some small print get out of jail free card that the auction company can stand behind with out doing any independent due diligence?
If the cars gone thru Maxted I think it will be up to snuff ....
SCM has run an article on the H&H car.
I know that statistical data can be tweaked to get the "end game" one wishes. It goes on all the time in politics. Thank goodness for the sleuths here that vet out cars like this. SCM would be wise to dig deeper before charging into the breach like sales people drumming up business are prone to do.
In this regard, while Bruce Anderson may have been slow on the uptick, he hit it squarely on the head with regard to the peak of 2008. Hold outs and those who bought at the topping may not be happy but that's life.
A good friend confided in me that he was very happy that he didn't have a car that required him to find a buyer for at the loftier prices. They aren't there. Fringe collectors (like a lot of us) are Unicorns.

Hi Cees,
Yes, quite a few Carreras for sale there. At Essen there were several for sale also. I think of three that were very nice. One black at PS Auto, a light yellow at Ande Votteler (this was the best one by far), and a very striking Jade Green car which is listed on the list you have.
The Jade Green was very nicely restored from a very rough condition. The color is so wild. It was very cool to see it in person but not sure I could look at in the garage all the time. It was very expensive also. The light yellow car is a third series, very original car from Japan. The best documented RS I have ever seen from Japan. I don't know the price on that one.
I didn't see the Coys RS up close but am interested to see if it sold and at what price. The 916 sold for 235K Euro without buyer's premium I understand.
It does seem the number for a restored #1 RS touring is in the $315k to $340k USD price category.
Seems this RS (1364) did not sell at Essen but recently sold another Coys auction for 162K € incl. buyers premium.

Regarding 911RS chassis 1571 for sale in France/Switzerland:
First of all merry christmas to all of you!
Last week i went to Switzerland to inspect the RS for sale on mobile.de for 155.000 Euro.
I some of you are interested in this car, you are welcome to contact me before going on a long journey.
From pictures the car looks stunning, but it is very far from factory specs, and extensive bodywork has been done to the car.
What concerns me the most is the grinding marks and odd edges and paint just around the VIN number, which makes me doubt the authenticity of the car.
It is GP white like on the color plate, but it was born light green. Nowhere what so ever could i find hints of green, not even behind the dash, just white.
Of course checking the VIN vs. production number, and removing the fuel tank for inspection for welds should solve the discrepancy.

VIN = 9113600856

Original Touring car with complete history. Delivered new in Germany, it sold in 1978 to the second German owner, who stored the car until 1985 without driving it. 1989 sold to the US to the third owner and 1993 to its 4th and current owner.
Only 7000 miles on a complete engine rebuilt (2.9l).
This is a numbers matching and nicely documented Carrera RS. Rare sunroof and el. windows per Kardex! New Irish-green paint in 1994 (original color yellow) on pristine rust-and accident-free body. The current owner slightly modified the car to his personal preference with a roll bar, sport seats, sport steering wheel and lightweight door panels. The car is set up for light sport events, but was never used as such after the restoration. All modifications are easily returned to stock configuration.
This is a rare offer of a fully documented and very well kept RS with matching numbers from a long term ownership with extensive records.
Asking: $255k

Thanks for the heads up on this auction. For the record it is RS 856. I was able to inspect this car several weeks ago and even though it is a color change and modified from original the car is very straight and most of the unique parts are there. This would be a blast to drive as is for a time and then restore later on.

"Carrera RS #0856.
This is a genuine Carrera RS with all numbers matching. This Carrera has had 4 owners from new, the history of the car is 100% documented.
Sold new in Germany to the first owner in 1973. Sold to the second owner in Germany in 1978 and being taken off the road until 1985.
The car was then fully restored (documents and photos available) and it's exterior color was changed from yellow to irish green.
The car was sold in 1989 to it's 3rd owner and imported to the US. This owner sold the car to it's current and 4th owner in 1993, who has kept it ever since.
The documentation on the car is complete and very extensive.
This is a factory Touring car which has been lightly modified by it's current owner. The modifications include sport seats, sport steering wheel, lightweight doorpanels and a bolted in(not welded) roll bar.
Even though it may appear that way, this RS has never seen serious track time. The body is without any indication of accidents or abuse and the interior is in perfect condition.
The engine has been completly rebuilt by a professional Porsche specialist and has run only 7000 miles since. The paint was redone in 1994 and still looks perfect with only the most minimal signs of wear. All paperwork on the work is available.
This is one of very few Carrera RS cars that have not changed hands 20 times in the past 10 years. The complete and documented 4 owner history and the perfect mechanical and cosmetic condition make this RS a rare find in today's world of collector cars. This is a true RS with no stories attached. The modifications to the car are easily returned to stock configuration. A rare sunroof RS Coupe with electric windows!"

This was a normal "M472" or "Touring" model and it was completed in February of 1973.
This Porsche was sold for new for export to Italy and delivered to the Italian Porsche distributor new (waxed) where it was sold and registered for normal road use by the first owner.
This car was factory built with several options, two of which are recorded on the original Porsche KARDEX:
M220 Limited Slip Differential
M409 Sport Seats Left and Right
It was additionally fitted with Seat belts left and right, both front and rear, headrests, left and right and power windows, left and right (from factory as noted in the RS registry). A Porsche "Authenticity / Heritage" document has been ordered and printed and will be with us in several days.
Earlier today, I completed a very thorough and comprehensive inspection and lengthy road-test with this Porsche. It was simply fantastic with excellent performance, handling and braking. I could fault it mechanically for nothing. It was in fact one of the best driving and best performing examples I have encountered.
There are no signs of accident damage or corrosion anywhere that we could find.
Our shop performed a full compression check on the engine when cold. All compression numbers were even and within normal tolerances.
This car has the most perfect set of tools and jack that I haver ever encountered. They are impossibly perfect and worth a small fortune. The car also has a correct dated coded spare tire."
Anyone know what the white European collectibles RS sold for at auction?
Am I wrong, but I am hearing from reputable people that the RS market may be on fire again. Any truth here?
Thanks,
John
I'm not sure what constitutes 'on fire', but yes the sale prices I have heard in the last couple of months demonstrate a significant move up. I really don't know a % amount, but enough to really surprise me. If this trend holds, I will be way under insured on my car.
Thanks and agreed Brian. I am calling my insurance company to increase the cars value. Well, given what our real estate and stock investments have done, this is a breath of very fresh air. I hope it continues.
Gooding, at Amelia Island, sold RS 1317 last Friday (3/9). It was bid to $260K and was a no sale in the auction, but sold later for $275K with the BP. Maybe the seller wanted out at $250K?

This car was offered for sale not too long ago at Mohr Imports in Monterey.

A couple of Carreras up for sale at RM Monaco last weekend. A Sepia Touring model, 0038, sold for $254K. Maybe the crowd wasn't all that excited about a brown RS.
http://www.rmauctions.com/CarDetails...26&Currency=US
There was also an M471 up for sale, 0334. It was a no sale with a high bid of $259K. Must be a story with this one.

That is the second time in recent history that RM got snookered on an RS sale.
Thanks for pointing that out. The auction company must have added this statement after I looked at the description a couple of weeks ago. This very much explains the lack of bids. I did notice the VIN tag is a total non-factory fabrication. I wish they would have photographed the stamped trunk VIN. I wonder what the production number is.
The VIN tag is ridiculous! Looks like a clay model of one painted silver. The rivets don't even line up in it.
Does one bid first to win, then pop the hood and ask questions later? I mean how does this stuff even get bids? If I'm out droppin' a quarter extra large on collector cars, I have budget for a sidekick who knows what to look for if I don't myself. Not to imply that I am out dropping 250k a pop on a fleet of collector cars... you know what I mean.
As P.T. Barnum once said, "this way to the egress"...

PS BTW, the seller has about half of the option codes descriptions incorrect in his ad.:(
Sumpdin ain't right...

I have no opinion on the eBay car, but an RS has sold *quietly* for $600,000. That is the new ceiling.
Holy obviously incorrect font Batman.
Brian:
Here's a better way to look at it. Lots of "issues".
Tom
Brian, the $600k sale, I don't think the post was referring to duckymex's car.
Hi Stacy,
Yes I know. According to the eBay listing 1222 sold for $500K. Bryce commented that something wasn't right with the bidding sequence and I agreed. The $600K reference was about another private sale.
There is no doubt that prices will continue to rise for these cars.
........And then they won't. ;)
not sure if this is the right spot for this...
Asking $450,000
IMO, needs restoration. Countless little issues everywhere.

If you can't say something nice it is better not to say anything. (Now for a moment of silence.)
right...pretty sure this same car sold in May 2012 for...$275k
Yes, just saw that auction featured on What's My Car Worth. The owner claimed the green script was ordered as an option direct from Porsche. That would make it a bit of a rarity since all of the cars other than white (and more specifically Grand Prix White) were supposed to get black decals (don't have "the Bible" at hand to confirm). The side script on the colored cars was an option that not many first owners purchased. I'll have to check.
A friend I met recently at the RS World Meeting sent me information and some photos of this interesting RS that was in Lebanon at some point and unfortunately ended up with some bullet holes in it. It was restored around 2004 and had a color change from Light Ivory to Light Yellow. It is listed for sale for 273.000 Euro.
http://www.wunscholdtimer.de/nc/deut...anchor_devices
I am wondering what the significance of the 'M' stamped on the AL VIN tag after the 'F' is all about.
A couple more for the record. My friend passed on the car as the restoration didn't meet up to his standards.
This may be here elsewhere;

"This matching numbers M472 RS is a one of one car. It was originally ordered 'Paint To Sample' in Signal Green, not to be confused with the more common Viper Green of which 79 cars were painted. Only 15 RS Carreras were built 'Paint To Sample' in varying custom colors and this car is one of those according Dr Konradsheim who literally wrote the 'Carrera RS' book."
So, now that it is Gulf Blue, this is a selling point???
Tom
PS: "Literally wrote the Carrera RS book" is a hoot!
It looks like the paint tag may have been changed
VIN = 9113601328
Eng# = 6631283
Trans# = ?

is the fuel tank correct? looks like 85ltr 74+ with rs plastic tank hold downs

Thanks for dropping the veil.
For $375,000 I want perfect and I want to be able to eat off of any surface. Before the prices got silly I recall several cars sub-$70K that were nicer and more original than this and we're not talking back in the 90's either! BTW: those are 471 "style" seats and NOT Sport Seats. I say "style" because I don't have my photos of originals on this box. Bryan may have the photos of the "original" original lightweight car that I shot several years ago.
Tom
Amazing, this owner put all this effort and expense into doing the completely wrong thing by repainting this RS Gulf Blue. I only guess how much $$$ this guy is loosing by making that bonehead decision.
BTW, some of the options listed on the dealers site are typical CoA nonsense. This car was delivered with options:
410 Sportseat, driver's side
419 Retractable seat belts left and right
440 Retractable antenna left and loudspeaker
571 Rear fog light
I can confirm that Dr. Konradsheim would be aghast at the color change from a special order Signal Green paint to this. Green is his favorite color. He would no doubt call this owner a total knucklehead (in German no doubt) for such a dumb choice.:(
Hey Tom, all I have are engine shots of that fantastic Lt. Yellow RS. Dig out your photos of that car. It is worthy of it's own thread.:)
When civilization again I reach. Do it I will.
Tom
This is how 1328 looked in 2006 (Germany):
Cees
Hi Cees,
Thanks for posting these up. I see it received the typical '80s Grand Prix/Blue change. Geeze, I wonder how many layers of paint are on this car. I just can't get over the fact it was not repainted Signal Green, crazy.
RS 0056 for sale at Symbolic
Symbolic has imported a number of Porsches from Japan in the past, including several RS models. This Touring model is a low serial number currently showing incorrect white/blue (it was originally white/green).
http://symbolicphotos.weebly.com/197...era-rs-27.html
Looks like all the chassis stampings and VIN tag is correct and original. The transmission is a correct RS box, but was originally put in RS 1029, which was owned in the past by one of the members here. The engine is (IMHO) a restamped case with the original serial number. The fonts are all incorrect. Don't know the asking. Maybe someone can ask them.:)
Here are a few more............Gota love the A/C add on.
The A/C is awesome. It's only slightly smaller than the window unit that we had in our apartment on Ocean Parkway in Brooklyn when I was a kid.
-Dave
Symbolic is asking $379K for 0056. Would be fun to inspect it to find out if all the panels and ducktail are original.
You gotta love this market; clapped out RS's being offered for "only" $379k. My guess is someone will pay $350 for it just to say they have a chip in the game.
There's something weird going on when an excellent RS will bring more than a 959.
Although fast forward to 2020 when we will look back and say: "Remember when Symbolic gave 0056 away for $350k?"
As always, time and desire will have the last word.
LOL Frank. I would call this one a 'useable' RS, especially with a non-original engine. Come to think of it wouldn't it be the ideal RS for your local. Drive the wheels off it even in the summer with the A/C going.:D
Raj,
Probably a discussion for another thread but the only "electronics" issues I'm aware of are a result of moist conditions. The cars are absolutely awesome; a piece of art. However, the price of admission is the cheap part unless you find a car that has been gone through by Canepa or someone else who knows them well. I won't complain about the RS market but I would rather have a 959 ALL DAY LONG over a glorified 911S. So I will officially say if anyone wants to trade a 959 for RS #266, I'm all over that!
Well this sure looks like a bargain! :)

I'm a doubting "Thomas".
So, the eBay seller says it is NOT a clone...Hmmmm. Obviously, something doesn't compute. Here are VIN, Engine, which didn't return anything here on Forum. Chassis#: 9113600093
Engine code: 6630112.
At least the knucklehead scammer could have picked a more obsure Carrera to 'sell'. The RS 0093 is a well know car owned by one of the members here and was previously owned by another member. It is a Lt Yellow 472. I don't know what car that is in the photos but it is not 0093. What a dumb a**.
I still can't believe how bold some people are, and how difficult it is to stop those who advertise outwardly false information. Here is the quote I received from him:
Additional photos are attached. This is an original RS, not a clone as many ebay members have asked.
Chassis#: 9113600093
Engine code: 6630112
A photo of the paint code plate is attached.
For payment I accept bank wire transfer. I can arrange shipping.
I second the ,,,,"what a dumb a__" quote!
