I once found a Carrera RS motor and it took me over a year to track down the owner of the car (he was the son of the original owner). I offered to sell the motor back to him. He said no thanks. A few months later the motor went to an RS owner in Germany who wanted it because it was close to the number he should have had in his car. That makes at least two RSs that will never be "matching numbers." :)
Good idea NTW........ I'll stick it
Cheers and thanks

This is a good idea. There is an "orphan" type database that one of the old BMW motorcycle clubs maintains. They try to get engines back with frames and vice versa.
I had an engine that belonged to a '67S. By searching I was able to track down the owner who was "sure" he had the right engine in the car. Only when I showed him the data from PCNA did he come to realize what he had was "not correct". In fact it was an earlier case, etc.
Voila! Engine and car reunited.
Best,
Tom

This is a great idea, but this thread will get really long and hard to follow. Someone needs to set up a website search-able by engine, vin number etc. I have a few engines and engine cases too, 68 911, 73S, 71E, 67 911, 65 911 etc and I know where there a several more to catalog but it needs to be some kind of search-able data base I'm thinking.....an engine registry and a car without engine registry and maybe another one for sales invoices, owners manuals and maintenance manuals and records and other paper work that has a vin number associated with it. Also putting Ebay items or Craigslist listings leads to dead end links in a short time. I think someone mentioned the BMW motorcycle club does this, how do they do it?
This IS a good idea.....
Will put it under consideration with the other upcoming additions......
Thanks

If you type in an engine or vin number in the "search thread" box, it will show all posts in this thread with that number, should any posts referencing the number exist.

I have maintenance record booklet including original invoice/bill of sale (Vasek Polak) of 1969 911S VIN 119301484 engine 7198785
Looking for any help with locating the original engine for my 1968 911 SWT. The car spent most of it's life in Florida, from 1983 until about 2001 around the Lantana area with Kenneth N Chupurdy, and then from 2001 until a year or so ago with Patrick T Maguire in Clearwater Florida. The engine number I'm looking for is # 3280377 and trnsmission # 3280643 (902/1) I've searched around but haven't had much luck finding Porsche repair shops or mechanics in those areas that might have worked on this car and hope someone that lives there can help??
To motivate anyone who might have an engine sitting in their garage, storage, etc. I'll pay a $500.00 "finders" fee if the engine is successfully located from information provided by that person.
Thanks, Mark-Seattle

Hey guys, I've been a lurker around here for some time but have recently found reason to post! I'm a VW guy but recently at an auction I came upon some service records for a very early 911 and was hoping someone might be able to help me find the current owner. The records are for chassis number 301 100. It was originally ownede by a W.S. Schmidt of St. Joseph, Michigan. After W.S. Schmidt, I believe it was purchased by a service technician at Bud Clark VW/Porsche by the name of Henry Moore. Anyways I'd love to get the records to the current owner if the car still exists. I'm sure there's a way to look it up on here I just couldn't find it so hopefully someone will help me out. Thanks!

Maybe someone is looking for their original engine and its a match?
Motor #6391089 for 69S has been found and re-united with chassis.
This site does work.
15-20 years. Vintage race car guy bought motor out of ad in Excellence late 90's. Was going to use it to build race car. Put it on shelf. Never did the build. Too old now. Friend told him to check this site. The rest is history. Got engine this past week.
Car had the original gearbox in it. Got 100% matching car now.
That's fantastic. Congratulations!

Always adding #'s as I dig them out.
My hope would be that these find their way back home. But I would also like to think that Republicans and Democrats will eventually find common ground in this country. A guy can dream, right?

Would like to find engine number 6392002
I just picked up my 72T VIN 9112101940. It came with a 77 2.7L engine ( #6272418) and Weber carbs. It also came with the CoA showing that the original engine was # 6123044. Has anyone read about or seen this engine? I'm trying to get as much info about the new car as much as possible. Thanks
I have a '72 T engine no. 6120049 and engine code 911/51.
While going through some technical bulletins from 1969 I found original correspondence relating to the following chassis:
69 911S Chassis # 119300514
68 911 Chassis # 11835706
68 911 Chassis # 11835364
912 Chassis # 354124
These are hand typed correspondence sent to dealers to be on the lookout for those chassis numbers as they had been stolen. Would make a nice piece of historical lit to add to your car. If you own one of these please shoot me an email to matt@unobtanium-inc.com

Looking for 1970 S engine number 6302160. Let me know if you have it.
Cheers Dirk.
Found case # 960885.
It's intact.
Suspect it's a 67S case.
Anyone have a chassis for it?
I have these 3 901 5-speed transmission cases: 902/1, Serial #s are: 229600, 235265, 238688
Edit: the "229600" might actually be 229620. There's a double stamp, and the "2" and the "0" are about equally deep. Nothing nefarious about it, it's the factory stamp.
Looking for US info on my car and keen to hear from the original and second US owner of my 71 t now residing in Australia. John L Williamson and Dennis Bramnick. Car was sold from the Chick Iverson Dealership.
