working, sorry ;-)
can we make this thread a sticky too, please?
Me too...I have them stacked up like cord wood. Okay, maybe not that many, but I do have a couple.
To the Mods: Is there a reason why we can not / should not make this a sticky? :o
Even old dogs like me can learn new tricks...
Thank you. :D
Now that it's sticky, may as well start filling it in.
No association.

I love vent windows. My '65 Vista Cruiser has them and the car is actually comfortable to drive when hot. I wish my later 911's had them.
This 911 has some nice details.
From the ad:
1967 Porsche 911 Coupe
VIN 308405
Engine # 911930
This 1967 911 Coupe was delivered new in Southern California and it still retains the original Black Plate with a current registration. It shows no signs of previous accident damage or any signs of rust. The only non-original body panel is the passenger door which is a factory replacement. Per the Porsche COA, the car was delivered with front and rear bumper horns, Recaro Sport Seats (very rare and a one year only style), Loudspeaker, 911S Oil Tank, and 911S Gauges. The original factory tool kit and shop manual is still with the car as is the early Blaupunkt radio. The five 15x6 Fuch Wheels are a later addition, but have a classic Porsche look.
The body is in excellent condition. The car was color changed to red from the original Sand Biege. It was done professionally and thouroughly with no signs of the original color. All of the trim is in good to excellent condition. The pans are rust free with no signs of any corrosion or damage.
The motor has just received a major service with the motor and gearbox removed from the car. In particular, new camshafts were installed, the cam chain tensioners were inspected, and the covers resealed. The Weber carbs were rebuilt and tuned, new plug wires, and new spark plugs were installed. The work was performed by Klub Sport Racing in Riviera Beach, FL.
The car drives very well with no issues. The gearbox works as expected and has received new shifter bushings. The motor is dry, clean, and has no leaks. Overall, a wonderful example of a short wheelbase 911. Over the past two weeks I've driven it and have enjoyed the differences of an very early 911 versus later examples. This one is fine to enjoy as is or could be the platform for some minor modifications to enhance the experience.
This is a numbers matching car verified with the Porsche COA.
Offered for $69,500 or reasonable offers.

I can't see that as a real listing. Time will tell.
Yes, a sweet deal - for the seller, whos likely to run and hide with the deposit. I've lived in Tulsa most of my life, involved with Porsches 45 years - never seen or heard of that car. Anthings possible - Im at Disney with family, and today learned that when you wish upon a star, your dreams come true.
We're victims here, for some reason - every time a car is listed in Oklahoma, where i can actually touch and inspect - it's just a cruel hoax.
California black plates and a POC license frame. Hard to believe it's in Tulsa...
That was a heck of a buy if legit.
ok now I KNOW this cant be real ...here is his other car that just sold for BIN $25K.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Merce...item3ccfc6323d
Well, now that's interesting. I would have expected unrelated settings for the pictures if these were fake auctions. But, the first picture in the Porsche ad is in the same spot as the last picture in the Merc ad. So, who knows?
That is a 45 to 50K car at least. I can remember in a magazine in 2007 or 08 a all original sand beige 67 911 very clean and it was 99K. do not know what it sold for but it was on display at Dana Point 356 show and was perfect car that had been garaged all its life so you can imagine. Chris

Holy WTF. Vin is for a 72 Squareback. Squarebacks have a 94.5" wheelbase. No wonder the wheels look like the are pushed to the ends of the wheel arches! I wonder how those D90's are gonna fit on 4 lug vw hubs?
I bet it was a fun project to build for someone with too much time on their hands!
That's not a Normal - it's an ABYNoRMAL !
Somebody may potentially come across this in the last few minutes of the auction, get distracted looking at the 2000(!!!) pictures and pull the trigger without due diligence. Who else suspects this is the strategy?
I`m surprised eBay has not pulled the plug on that one. Blatantly false info provided.
I saw this early today, and still flabbergasted... sorta feel bad for the poor car. It's like a leper, with no hope of a cure.
With the VIN posted for posterity, here's a piece of Golden Rule Guy's exceptionally creative copy. Wowsa.

I wish the new owner of this superb and stunningly beautiful 46 year old Porsche unlimited and unending happiness with his or her new acquisition, and hope it goes to someone who appreciates it.
Porsche cars of this era were imported by Volkswagen of North America, and Porsches were manufactured by Volkswagen (VW) AG. The pan and engine of this car is VW. VWs of the 1960s had a VIN stamped primarily on the center channel behind the front seats, which is the VIN on the title of this car. The Porsche VIN was riveted by the Porsche factory on the body in the front trunk area, as seen in the photos. If you would also like an additional title that has the VIN from the front, you may pay an extra $350 and have it in 60 days.
Burns some oil and oil seeps when sitting, which causes it to smoke to burn off as you run it which after 15 minutes burns off completely and it then runs clear without smoking. As a general matter, it is not recommended to drive a car with oil leaks as oil can catch fire if it hits a hot exhaust system, therefore it is recommended only that you drive this car after fixing the oil leaks. Although the car was driven for the video demonstration, it has been many years since this car has been in regular use. Therefore it is not recommended that you drive it until you have had a complete professional system and safety inspection performed.

Claims Matching Number from COA
YEAR: 1966
VIN: 304466
ENGINE: 907688
PAINT: 6604
TRANS: N/A
LOCATION: Grass Valley, California, United States
Referring to this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1966-...ht_1130wt_1064
I was watching this one too and was surprised (pleasantly) at the final bid of $62,100. Here are some photos for the record, the ebay advert will eventually expire and will not be available.
Description:
What we have for auction this beautiful Saturday morning in Grass Valley, California 95949 is a black plate, panels-matching, numbers-matching California survivor 1966 Porsche 911 in Artic White, black leather front seats and black leatherette rear seats with a front anti-roll bar, Blaupunkt in-dash AM-FM radio, fog lights, factory air conditioning and factory-installed gas heater; a real time-machine! The Certificate of Authenticity has yet to arrive but a phone call to Porsche North America confirmed the numbers and options; we were told the printed version should arrive in a week or two.
The biggest killer of the early 911 cars is rust but this car is 99.9% rust-free, with the only spot of rust being on the driver-side C-pillar towards the rear grill; all other suspect areas are free of rust. There is some surface rust under the hood, but check out the pictures for a closer look. The real beauty of this car is its lack of damage, with no filler or replaced panels anywhere. Very remarkable for a 47 year old Porsche 911 car. For anyone wanting to have access to perfect panels, well, this is your car!
The car comes with all of its original documentation, receipts and manuals, including the 911 Owner's manual, the 911/912 Accessories manual and the original Blaupunkt number card, installation and operating instructions. Check out the pictures for the manual shots; more pics of the other docs on request.
The car had been sitting for a while so the gas tank was removed, not-tanked, sealed and re-installed. All rubber gas lines have been replaced, along with the brake master cylinder, front rubber and metal brake lines, just to be safe. The original parts removed are included with the auction.
The car has had some modifications to the engine area over the decades, including a Bursch exhaust, Weber 40mm IDA from a later "S", an after market capacitive discharge ignition system, a solid-state fuel pump and a Mallory old school, hot-rod coil, which is very cool! The car runs very strong and idles smoothly, as it should since, according to the receipts, the engine was rebuilt 3500 miles ago.
The tires are in like-new condition but are quite old and should be replaced with a tire comparable to this car's performance potential. The five steel wheels are the originals, all stamped 3/66 and from the same manufacturer with the same off-set, and four hub-caps are included. The chrome steel wheels are showing a bit of their age and could use a clean-up, and possible a re-chrome.
The VIN is 304466 and the engine number is 907688, just like the COA says. I don't have the trans number now but the car will go on the lift today for some under-side shots, so I'll get that listed ASAP.
The car is a real find and virtually all original; even the original shift knob is included, along with a touch-up container of white paint and the original seat belts. Also included are a pair of Pasadena Bursch license late frames in very good condition with no cracks. The car does need a re-spray from being exposed to the elements for so long, but it is a worthy car.
Bid early and bid often! Please, no calls from ANY dealers asking what the reserve is. No calls from ANY dealers touting themselves as "paying top dollar for your Porsche" because that just isn't true. Free market auctions will decide what the cost of this car actually is, so bid to win.
This car is being sold as-is with no warranty implied. I have described this car as accurately as I can; feel free to email or call to discuss the car.
Thanks, and Happy Bidding!

Good eye, Rich. I would love to see the other side to be sure it wasn't a trick of the light. (Actually did see the car in person a couple days ago. Very interesting effort. Didn't pay attention to the motor mount area though, since the VIN area was undisturbed.)
:rolleyes:yeah could be in the foto, certainly strange to have decided to go that direction!
Something fishy is going on with that car.
The luggage compartment details don´t line up, 66- adjustable strut tops, washer bag "hole" in the right inner fender missing(?) but it does wear a early, 64/65 front slam panel with pressings all the way to the right and VIN tag placed in trunk.
I suspect this one will not sell as easily:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1966-...-/330987442037
Ok, we realize you guys know a ton more than the rest of us weenies, but can you let us in on what you see wrong. I assume it is the chassis number, because it does not match what I can find in any of the few books I have. Thanks
I suppose that would make the seller Frankenweenie?
So the 911 VIN tag is 303595 and the chassis is 453660, a 912 VIN. The shot of the front trunk shows the latch panel as the early style before the VIN tag moved up there, and the 911 tag would have been located there by that VIN. Sort of proves the body is a 912 based primarily on the chassis #.
905760 is not a valid engine #; nothing between 901/01 serial 903910 and 901/05 serial 907001.

I can agree that it would have been better for the seller to have at least been more clear in the ad title that the seller is referring to "year of production" being 1965. But since he does make that point in the text of the ad, it is my opinion that he has not misled. In my mind, there is an important difference between being imperfect and being misleading. If it were my ad, I would change the title to reflect year of production as 1965 and or model year as 1966.
Ds
Don't the '65 cars get more attention (money) than the '66 cars? I would tend to think this seller is hoping someone wants to believe they have something a bit more special, and his advert is leading in that direction. They are, after all, trying to $ell $omething. I can imagine a casual purchaser getting a bit misled by this. It's all OK, I guess, but... the seller probably knows it's NOT considered a true '65 911.
This is my point exactly. If you know something is, by definition, not what you are advertising, then you are misrepresenting it. There is no place in his ad any description other than 1965, (except an image of a work order that has the correct model year) so the uninitiated will be deceived. I think this is wrong.
Perhaps, but I can't speak to the sellers motivation. And I am not convinced, for my money at least, this car is any less valuable than one made 3 months earlier but legitimately called a MY 1965. Now if it were one of the first 750 cars or so, that might be a different matter entirely as then maybe you start to get some pull from the 1964 cars, depending on features. As an owner of a couple of these cars on the transition points of model years, that's how I see it. Cars produced in 1965 being worth a bit more to me than those produced in 1966. And then among those produced in 1966, I would value the solex models (whether currently so equipped or not) as being slightly more desirable than the later cars in 1966 due to their potentially broader acceptance for certain historic events. This is just my opinion based on no facts. Others are free to disagree. I guess the main point I am trying to make is that the car in question looks pretty decent to me and I think there is value lurking there at the right price.
Ds
I emailed the seller to tell them about the concerns being expressed here. They said the would change the ad and I believe they have done so. Because they changed the ad, i would tend to believe they had no intent to deceive anyone.
Now, about the car... I like it!
ds
The 302xxx cars were all made in 1965 and are transition cars that are different from those made in calender year '66 in a few critical ways. They did have solex carbs, nadella axles and 4 screw horn grills - all these features being more associated with and the same as the pre September '65's.
Strangely this car does not have the 4 screw horn grills. Anyone know when that changeover was made?
Hello everyone, sorry to drop that bomb and then leave the room, I had to get back to work. Now that I am back, I would like to take a look at this situation from a world view. I saw the advertiser of the car in question promoting his car in a world market and trying to attract buyers from Europe. Yes, he is advertising on a US website, but some (many) readers of Samba are from Europe. Porsche 911's manufactured up to Dec 31, 1965 have a special interest there being that they are eligible for FIA-Period F class events and will bring premium $$ over a car manufactured after 1/1/66. Consider cars with a manufacturing date pre-dating 1966 as "event eligible".
I am aware of a September 65 car selling for $105k (went to Europe) that needed more work than this car (as seen from the photos) and I have turned down $80k for my October 65 car from a European buyer when I was not even advertising mine for sale.
Here in the US, we see this car as a 66 model year car but for the ROW, this car is a 65 and will sell in the world market for 65 prices. I wish the seller the best of luck with the sale; it's a beautiful car.
Now for a question, were all cars distributed to the US in 1965 advertised as 1966 model year cars? I had read that one time...
So strangely this one has the wrong horn grills. Was that a common changeover?
Ad is now marked as "inactive" generally indicating a pending sale.
Here we go again.....

Even more rare than hideaway marker lights is an S motor with Zenith's.

He believes it is the correct motor, but he doesn't have the COA to prove it. I bought my SWB without a COA under similar circumstances. The engine number range was within my VIN and that information is readily available. It's a calculated risk that paid off for me, as my COA matched when it arrived. It could be a sleeper buy with a little homework and an inspection.
Tell the guys that sold the '68L at Scottsdale that. :p $143,000.

It would certainly bother me.
Poll?
I recall financial considerations made post auction for a car that was sold where Gooding and Company didn't get all the 411 on the car before it crossed the block. Short memories here? 911-S with a clipped sunroof. I recall the owner unloaded it on ebay.

Tom
seemed to bother the folks considering this car a while back...
http://www.early911sregistry.org/forums/showthread.php?77510-FS-1969-Sunroof-S&highlight=119300093
Was the first S that caught my eye and the guy who put down top dollar (121k) at gooding was hard pressed to sell at that price a little while later. Added sunroof doesn't do it for me.
Still a very nice restoration on that Burgundy car, lord!
That's the one. Apparently not all the beans were spilled before the auction by Gooding.
Raj,
It would certainly bother me.
I saw this 1967 911 normal for sale on craigslist for $68k.

The :eek:bodies:eek: they dig up these days never cease to amaze me.
Friend of mine's car, just landed on the bay - 68.
consider this public service, not an endorsement or warranty, other than the seller is honest and not from Nigeria and the car drives well ;-)

Definitely NOT a flintstone car, but as usual digital pictures embellish the paint.

You don't see Cosmic wheels on the 911 too often.
Not my cup of tea on a 911, but it's all in the eyes of the beholder...
Matching numbers 66 911 and it's cheap! Let's see how long this one lasts...25K

From Coys Description of the Car:
"Leaving the factory on 23rd June 1967, this 306 chassis numbered Short Wheel Base 911 was destined to start life in sunny California. Repatriated back to the UK in July 2013, 306693 has been in one family ownership since new. As one would expect, accompanying the car is a considerable history file showing invoices from 1967 right up until 2012, with close to 100 maintenance invoices over the last 45 years.
Along with the large number of receipts in the history file is a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity confirming this example is matching numbers car and comes with a new MoT certificate.
Bodily, as you would expect with a California car; the silver coachwork is in good condition. The interior, finished in black still retains many rare period original features, including rare period door cards, and its original steering wheel."
What did the silver 67 911 sell for ?
What about this one???
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-911-...US_Cars_Trucks
One of the most important factors I consider when purchasing a vintage 911 is whether the seats match the gauge color.
This car is about 15 miles from me. If someone wants a trusted pair of boots on the ground let me know.
AZ is hard on interiors. The dash never had a chance. Fortunately that is the least of your problems with this example. NOTE: Please do not attempt to "light the heater!" It might finish the project once and for all.
AZ is hard on interiors, exteriors, and people who complain about our politics.
I don't make the rules.
I just enjoy living here.

Non matching engine 909357 which I believe is a 1967 normal
The front slam panel looks incorrect as well as aluminum VIN tag placement

Chassis # 302981, matching numbers engine and transaxle. Built November 24, 1965.
Asking $95,000
Same owner for the last 33 years. This is a good, solid example of an early 911. I bought the car in 1982. Around 1983 the suspension pan and floor pan was replaced by Type 356 South in Kennesaw, GA. Quarter section floor pans were used. The car was originally Aga Blue (paint code 6608), but is currently 1973 Carrera Yellow. The paint work was done around 1991 and is beginning to show its age a bit. There are a couple of spots of minor rust, one in the right front fender near the bottom edge of the door, and the other is below the left bottom corner of the rear window. The interior was redone in black vinyl, it was originally beige leatherette per the COA. A pair of Recaro front seats done in black cloth were installed The original Blaupunkt radio is installed, but is not functioning. The original Webasto gasoline heater is installed, but I have not tried to operate it. The original wood steering wheel with a butterfly horn button is installed. The wheels are 15 inch Fuchs replicas with Yokohama radials with around 1,000-1,500 miles on them.
The engine has been fitted with Weber carbs (PMO kit in 1989) with K&N Water Shield air cleaners. It also has solid, adjustable chain tensioners and SSI exhaust header/heat exchangers.
The car was equipped with air conditioning at some point in its past. The system has been removed, but some remnants remain--portions of hose in the rocker panels and the system pass through in the trunk.
Recent work includes new Bilstien shocks and struts, replacement lower ball joints, and the installation of a dual circuit brake system.
The car comes with:
The original Solex carbs including the linkage, air filter housing, and dual fuel pump.
(The fuel pump pushrod is missing)
A stock air filter housing for the Weber carbs.
The original front seats and seat rails. The seats are complete, but would need recovering.
4 original style chrome steel wheels with hubcaps. The wheels are not the ones that came with the car, but they have mid 1965 date codes. The tire currently mounted on them are not useable.
The original single circuit master cylinder and brake lines.
The original aluminum deco strips for the bumpers and rocker panels.
A couple of boxes of miscellaneous spare parts (the original tail and front turn signal lenses, various rubber seals, later 911 headlight parts, etc.)
The original front floor rubber mats, in poor condition.
The car is located about 50 miles north of Atlanta, GA in Ball Ground, GA. You can drive it home!
This is a fun car to drive as is, or return it to total original condition.

Auction Description:
The Porsche 911 was developed as a much more powerful, larger, more comfortable replacement for the Porsche 356, the company's first model. The new car made its public debut at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show.
It was a significant advance on the outgoing car, providing greater performance, space and refinement. The new engine, a 1,991cc horizontally-opposed 6 cylinder unit, was designed by Ferdinand Piech, Dr Porsche´s nephew. Situated in the rear to maximise traction and space efficiency, it produced 130 bhp. Not only has the model proved seemingly immortal, but it has undergone the most rigorous development over its lifetime of possibly any car. The 911 L was introduced in 1968, and featured a more luxorius interior and also retained the 130bhp engine of the original car, with the later-type Weber carburettors.
This very original matching numbers Porsche 911 L (one of 720) is one of the last built and has been delivered as a new vehicle to its first German owner via Porsche the dealership Islinger of Mannheim. Unlike most of the 911 L Porsches that were sold to the US, this is one of the very few with original German delivery.
The car underwent restoration ten years ago and stood the test of time since admirably. Still finished in its original colour of polo - red and sitting on Fuchs wheels the car resided for many years in a large german collection.
Its interior has been done recently and shows the original pepita insert leather seats. Sitting on new tyres and equipped with the fashionable Cibie lights, the car comes with german papers and TÜV approval. During the last 2 years, further work has been done to the car, including overhaul of the carburettors, new heavy duty ignition coil and cables, new chain tensioner, new sports exhaust, new carpets and a brew battery. Invoices are available.
These early models of the iconic 911 Porsche are getting more and more sought after and prices consequently continue to rise considerably, so do not miss this one.

I like rally lights mounted on the fenders corners. Truly the most logical method with respect to wiring for a street car not to mention future "hole filling" should they be taken off. You can't hide the holes in a hood very easily.
