Hello together,
I would be interested in the difference between the very early 911S models. What are exactly the differences between a 1966 and a 1967 model?
I am asking, because I would like to get detail information about a 911S which was delivered in September 1966. The car has green dials, correct Fuchs alloys, IDA(S) instead IDS Weber….
The early 67S's up to about October 66 were all fitted with weber IDA and thereafter IDS

Hi, thanks a lot for your fast answer…. that sound fine. It seems than to be correct. :) I have seen the IDA with the “S” on the side. But do the early IDA”S” Webers also have an "enrichment circuit" like Weber IDS…
Moreover I have seen different painting designs of Fuchs alloys… the black painted parts were different like later models…
I've noticed in a couple instances that cars early in the production year lacked the shoulder harness anchor points located on the parcel shelf.

Here is a little known fact, and I believe the change took place with the 1967 cars: Right inside the exhaust pipes flanges (both left and right) there were small ridges welded in to reduce horse power slightly. It was my understanding this was done because autos at that time were insured in Germany by horsepower rating. These flanges lowered the rated horsepower within a particular HP range.
On my 65/66 car (#302580) I did this and the difference was significant in engine response.
Bruce Anderson talks about such exhaust restrictors in Porsche 911 Performance Handbook on page 56 (second edition) right after describing the 40IDA-3C carbs with a stamped "S". According to Bruce, the new exhaust system developed for the 911S added about 10 hp to "normal" cars in Model Year 1967. According to Bruce, Porsche wanted to maintain a roughly 30 hp difference between the "Normal" and "S" engines so they added restrictor rings to the exhaust. About November 1966 Porsche switched to a milder camshaft and removed the exhaust restrictors.Quote:

I noticed in Essen that cars were often presented by built date and not model year which drove me crazy:confused:. It took me a while to fully intergrate the difference between the calendar year and the Porsche model year and I thought I was up to speed and now more and more people are going back to built year.
Yes a 1966 911S never existed, alhough they technically did, but let's stick to model years for clarity.

I own a late August build #3056XXS comes with IDA's. Happens to be an aga blue SR coupe.

OK, here is a question that has had me wondering for the past several years.
What is the difference in the early chassis that would account for the footnote on the Werks Service Bulletin Nr.2 5/67 regarding roll bar installation that states that fitment of a roll bar subsequent to delivery is not possible on an S chassis prior to ch. nbr. 305758?
