WTB: LWB Front Door Handles - 70 or 71 version

Hi Everyone:

I am looking for a set of LWB (specifically 70 or 71) door handles with cylinder locks. I am seeking very good to NOS condition with no scratches, pitting or damage on the chrome. Let me know if you have a set for sale.

Hi Simon,
Yes, I am aware. In today’s market there are three options: two aftermarket manufacturers (one Chinese and another European) and Porsche Classic. Porsche wants $350 (plus taxes) per handle so I’m hoping to buy a ‘gently used’ set for less.

Hi Michael,

There are very few differences between MY 1970 and 1971 911s. One of them is the orientation of the door lock cylinder slot on the door handle. The MY 1970 had a horizontal key slot while the MY 1971 had a vertical one. For the most part, this holds true. But as is the case with other transitional Porsche parts, older inventory was used up before the new part was introduced. In my case, my 1971 MY 911T with a production date of 10/1970 was installed with horizontal key cylinder slots.

Yes - I compared them to original. I doubt anyone could tell the difference. The weight compare also seemed ok, but I did not weigh them. I will do that soon as I need to reinstall one. At the time the price of original NOS ones was outrageous, not that these are cheap.

Has anyone seen or installed the Dansk aftermarket ones?

Yes, Ravi, I know. My question was which version of handle is offered by Porsche? '70 or '71. I'm not going to buy a '71-on handle for my '70 even if it once graced the hand of Larrousse, unless it was one that was drilled.;)

The current Porsche one has vertical key slot - so 1971

Do you have more information about the date the handle change?

@trevi1 - If you are asking about what month in 1970 the door handle transitioned, I don’t know the exact date. I can only offer a data point in that my MY71 with a production date of 10/70 came with the ‘70 handle’ i.e. horizontal key slot.

My 12/70 build 1971 still has the horizontal key slot

Was there not a time when the handles became same, side to side , driver/ passenger. , Interchangeable. I believe it was between 72/73?
