This was in 1997- and 1998 was the last year we were able to run at the Vintage event due to developement in the area.
We are still looking for a new location for a street race - maybe in Brekenridge in the future.
Just returned fron Texas Motor Speedway and the Porsche Parade Club Race. Lots of "top end" in 5th gear due to my "short gears". Kinda fun , as this was my first experience on "high" banks . :)
Yeah, why not? Paint done by the Porsche factory...in July of '72

Wow...thanks Gburner! Much lighter. Original pic is a scanned snapshot, taken on my side yard. Behind the trees is a 20' wide dirt lane. Neighbor on the other side wants me to cut 'em down. I'm giving her a Dick Cheney answer, since the easement is on MY property, and it's a private lane. '72 Targa? It's Irish green...code 213.
Both of them...in the air at the same time...draining my wallet. :(

Edit: I'll just sell this damn digital camera to buy more go fast parts. :D

Irfanview is free and will easily reduce res when you load a file and then save it again. Google it up.

Out for a sunday cruise...
I finally downloaded Irfanview, and used it to reduce the size of pictures.Quote:

This picture was originally 1.66 MB and 2400 x 1800 in size.
I changed it to 63.5K and 800 x 600 in size.
1. Click on File/Open and select the picture you want to resize.
2. Then click on Image/Resize-resample A dialog box will come up. On the right hand side there is a choice of common picture sizes. Just click on the size that you want, and then click "OK."
3. Then click on File/Save As. Make sure at the bottom the "Show Options Dialog" box is checked. Rename the file so that you keep your original.
4. On the Option Dialog Box, it says "Save Options" at the top. Move the slider to the quality level you want. Lower numbers mean a smaller picture size. You need to do trial and error. I moved the slide to "50" to reduce the quality of this picture.
5. Then click Save
6. You will need to check to see how big the picture is now. If it isn't small enough, do the process again, but use a smaller number in step 4. If too small, use a bigger number in step 4.
Sorry to take this time to do it, but I thought that the non-computer-literate among the crowd may need some specific instructions. And this way, I get to see more car pictures. :D:D

Yeah Stacy, I learned that some time ago. ;) This is her old car that I built up. The Tangerine '73 911T/RS 2.7 Bastard Evolution Lightweight. Somewhere north of 240 hp., 7/31 r&p in a '75 gearbox, T-bars, swaybars, SRDs, harnesses, roll bar, pretty much a ground up bastardization of a perfectly rusty car...it eventually succumbed to the metal worms. :( Her new ride is on the lift right now being built; '68 Lightweight screamer! :DQuote:

hey dave - i took that pic of Rob Dickenson's car in monterey. actually have it framed and hanging on my wall here in the computer/office room. it was the car that i photographed the most. BEAUTIFUL CAR! Catherine Wheel is also a great band. the guy has talent.
story of my life. here is an old photo of the 69S taken during the 2nd Tour de Cambria in 2001.
Its far from being perfect (that it will never be) and now has more battle scars (rock chips & nicks) and a few surface rust that have popped up in the last couple of years. Its a 50/50 car = looks good from 50 feet away at 50 mph (a term my good friend and Nor Cal founding member Rich Sutliffe like to use to describe his yellow 73 Lightweight 911S).
But despite all the shortcomings, its still a blast to drive and that's what these old 911S are all about.
enjoy,
Cris Huergas
R Gruppe #002
Cris, great car! Is there a post anywhere that documents or shows pictures of your front cooler setup. Im thinking of going to a front cooler and I don't want to run a RS style bumper. Looks like you were able to do it. Did you have to notch the front of the tub to allow for airflow?
Here's a bad pic of my car. It's a '50/50 car' also. Well, maybe its a 100/50 car :D. For now anyway. It goes to the bodyshop next week for minor rust repair in the outer rocker sections.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1090281466.jpg
Nice Cris. Ride height looks good. A few stone chips makes it a little more honest! ;)
Shuie,
I must confess those 5 black circles on the bumper are black vinyl tapes.
I got a little creative about 4-5 years ago and came up with the idea of trying to mask the hole openings for the plate holder mounts by taping those black vinyl decals to simulate what would appear to be openings for a front cooler since I didn't want to run front plates. Of course I also looked to whether a front cooler would actually fit in that location if I wanted to mount one with the stock bumper. Only way it will is to open up a section of the front inner nose panel where a cooler would have to fit through. Even if you got one to fit in that location, you wouldn't have enough clearance behind it for the air flow to go through and will only create air turbulence with no where to go. I guess it might work if you cut through the opening and built a ducting where air will flow through downward and out from underneath the front pan. Too much work and cutting involve and may not be worth the effort not to mention cutting up the front nose and pan for the opening and may even cause problems at high speed.
Sorry to mislead you into thinking that I came up with a briliant idea on how to mount a front cooler in the stock front bumper. I've since done away with the decals and mounted my front plates instead. You gotta admit, it sure looks trick in the photo. ;)
good luck with your 72.
Cris

Some great cars and photos. We welcome member submissions, but I'd prefer members send in their pictures personally rather than me lifting from the forum. I also cannot ID members by their user name. For the member page, please include some information about your car. We'll do the best we can to accommodate you.
If oil temp is an issue. Another route to duct the center mounted front oil cooler, a small plenum is then ducted to the driver's front fender well. This way the (be it weak) negative presure area under the nose of the car is undisturbed. I got this idea from Dave at TRE, thanks Dave. ;)Quote:

Thanks Cris!
Gburner, that front duct work is awesome. Im trying to avoid cutting my front clip since nothing is rusted up there. Trouble is that Im having a hell of a time finding anywhere to put a oil cooler. Even in the fender wells the battery boxes on my car will get in the way. I hate to cut on solid metal :o
Shuie, wouldn't the stock oil cooler work?
I think thats what Im going to try. I'll leave the battery box in place and see how hot it gets. How close do your tires get to the cooler?
I havn't looked. I didn't notice any damage when I had the fender off so I guess its not in the way. I have 195/60 tires on the front. Its also around euro height.
I don't seem to have any problems with heat. I havn't done any DE or anything though. On a trip I just went on the oil temp stayed around 180. Even when im running around on the back roads it seams to stay around 180.
Hmmmm....can someone please tell me how to attach pix directly to my reply?

Hey Thorsten, is that one of the repro Gulf driving suits/jackets you're wearing? I saw them at Goodwood. Pretty cool. You can get them all stages of "aging", from looking brand new to something that looked like it had been worn inside a 917 for 24 hours straight.

T34's are fairly rare out there. Handbuilt by Karmann on the VW type 3 (notchback/squareback) chassis, they were the most expensive car in VW's lineup starting 1962 model year, and were never imported officially into the US. 'S' was a dual solex, higher compression 1500cc. Dropped from the lineup after '69, as the 914 made its debut. For the curious, more info available here: http://www.type34.org/staticpages/in...30409142446417

As for the R32 - I test drove one back in APRIL. Fun car, but I LOVED climbing back in my own ride after. For 11 years old, the VR6 it's still a great car. I suppose it's like the early 911s vs. modern debate - the classics just have a certain "raw" feel.
Hey Tom,
Nice truck... the quickest way to increase its value is to park it next to my 'original' ;) , 130,000 mile :p (in the last 9 years :D ) daily driver. Even after a furniture truck took off my left, rear fender (and this was taken before the accident... ). ;) :D :D

However any comparison between the "dinosaurs", as the Phantoms from the past - due to their very conservative design - had been called quite often and the new one showed this to be light years ahead. The four-door body was made as an aluminium space frame structure; less heavy and substantially more rigid than a steel body of equal size. Rear-hinged rear doors combined easy access for rear seat occupants with the advantage that photos could be taken with no door frame protruding into the photo when the door was open. Keeping in mind the clientele that was envisaged as prospective customers the coachwork had been designed "media-friendly".
A new light alloy V12-engine of 6.749 cc capacity was shoe-horned into the engine bay. Thanks to four valves per cylinder the engine produced 460 hp (338 KW). It was necessary though - because no turbocharger was installed - to rev up to more than 5,300 rpm to gain peak power. Such a level hadn't found acceptance with Rolls-Royce previously and might be one reason for the special 2-phase-exhaust system, which employed a device to shut a valve at low rpm thus bringing down the exhaust note to an inaudible hustle. A six-speed automatic gearbox transferred power to the rear axle. Air springs on all four wheels provided a cosseting ride. Automatic level control was part of the system, too. There remained the question however, whether or not the massive 2 ½ ton motor car with its overall length of some six metres (ca. 230 in) did fit exactly to be described as a "perfect owner-driver"?
The engineers though had succeeded tremendously well to make any long-standing Rolls-Royce owner feel "right at home" once on board the new Phantom. No compromise as regards choice of material - finest leather trim, genuine wool carpets and carefully selected wood. The "bull's eye" air-conditioning outlets were exact copies of what was to be found on previous models and that could be stated of the shape of some knobs in the fascia, too. The Phantom was available as a 5-seater. "Lounge" version being equipped with a rear bench offering space for three occupants. Optional "Theatre" version could be selected with two individual rear seats divided by a centre console - thus converting the car into a 4-seater.
In 1904 Frederick Henry Royce (from 1930 Sir F. Henry Royce, Bart.) and Charles Stewart Rolls, son of Lord Llangattock, had founded the Rolls-Royce marque. During the 99th year of its history the Rolls-Royce Phantom showed, which pace BMW Group intended to set for the future.

11+ hours round trip, and the trailer came back empty. :(
Holy crap Erich. That rig must motivate!
Erich, that rocks!! I've seen some splits and other early converted busses, but that's the first of the later bodied vans I've seen. Very cool!
Hi Austin-- Like your 69 S ; Please tell me the name of the medium looking shade of green your targa is? Could it be Leaf green or Sea green? Thanks Chris Early S reg. and R-Gruppe#144
It's a 20 year old Irish Green. I saw the recent post with a seafoam green 911- so cool! ...wish it was offered in 1969
Thanks for the reply. I guess the computer monitor changes the look of some colors. By the way if your car was made in September, October, Nov or Dec.1968 for the 1969 year model, that great color-Sea Green might have been availible for your car.Acording to my records Sea Green was availible in 1968. Its like a few soft top targa's were produced and three are in the Early S Registry that are 1969 cars. Another similar color is Stone Grey; you would never know it but it is a light greyish green-- Regards Chris Early S and rgp#144

The deep 6's in the rear look very cool...what year ??
the retractable seat belts, larger 72 mirror, and black horn grills...it should be a 73.
Nice car!
Shawn.
Tom, that Jennings car is a real piece of history. I recall it being for sale (for quite a while it seems??) a couple of years ago but I don't remember the asking price. Was it $35-40K?? -- Curt

Looking great, Chuck...I did a lot of circumspect eyeballing of your car back in '01...So darned appropiate, is so representative of what guys did "back in the day". I love it!
Here are a few photos of the '71 Targa that I took today. It is getting closer to where I want it to be but a number of small things remain to do, like lowering the ride height, getting correct seat belts, etc. You guys know the drill. :D

I am sure some of you will remember the saga of the 2.2L rebuild. It was taking so long to get the case back that I started looking for another motor to put in the car so we could at least drive it this summer. Well a good friend and fellow S Registry member came to the rescue and 'loaned' me one of his motors.
The motor is from a project car he bought several years ago, a '73S Viper Green coupe. Interestingly the motor was rebuilt by Paul Weir about 4 years ago, but hadn't been started until we put it in the '71 Targa. It was rebuilt to RS specs and as best as I can tell goes very well. It is still in the breakin period so I am being good and not thrashing it yet. ;) Should make for a fun fall driving season. Here is the motor being dropped off to be installed and then in the car.
I was told by my mechanic that he welded it in by accident. ;)

George,
I'll have to ask Margaret, that is her car. ;) You'll feel right at home though in a MB wagon. :)
Here are some photos of my 1968 911 S. It is Tangarine color and has 71,000 original kms on it. It is an European version. It still needs some work, but I would say it is in very decent shape. :)
Your critic and comments will be very welcome
GREAT look'n car Henry... :)
Love the way it's sits - perfect!
Personal preference...
I'm'a sucker for 'brightwork' around the windows on an Early car... I'd bring it back.
Cheers,
Thanks Chuck,
I totally agree with you, but the previous owner did a very good job of getting rid of the chrome. :mad:Quote:

It looks like the only way to bring it back would be to take all the windows out and send the window frames and the door handles to be chromed again, and at this point it doesn't sound very appealing.
It will be done someday, I'm sure.
Take care

How about sanding it off and polishing the aluminum? Would look great, and with a coat of wax, the aluminum doesn't really need to be annodized. Unless yours is chromed brass, when did it change...?
Here's my humble '73T 50/50 rat, broken motor and all... BTW, if anyone knows of a cheap, decent early 911 motor for sale, I'm all ears. Bottom image is from a couple hours pre 'boom' (Chuck, I sympathize)
Hi Dave,
Call fellow Gruppster Tom Woodford @ 760-731-7535...perhaps he has something that might work for you...he'll be at GAF if you're going.

Thanks, Ed- will do
Hi Dave,
<How about sanding it off and polishing the aluminum? Would look great, and with a coat of wax, the aluminum doesn't really need to be annodized>
Sounds good and it might work. I'll have to give it a try. Ihave to fix a rust spot on the left front fender, so this might be a good time to try. I'll let you know how it went.
This happened about 3 years ago when the previous owner did a bear all paint job. (wouldn't it have been a great opportunity to chrome the things again  )
Hi Guys,
Would love to post a few photos of my ride but would need help with reducing the size of the file. Anybody want to help a rookie?
:p ;) :D
Ahhhemm!! Yes, Randy did mention Irfanview first, but the instructions on operating it were my hand. ;)Quote:

This week's weather is almost making up for a lousy summer season. We spent about four hours exploring NW Connecticut and into NY.
I'm like'n the x'trem angles... :)
Just beautiful! Eye candy, all of 'em. :D
It seems that Jack spends more time on his stomach than the average plumber taking those great shots. :) But the average plumber never did such beautiful work. I bet he carries a creaper in the trunk! ;)
But as they used to say in the White House, better on your stomach than on your knees.

I'll be heading for those Hills in a couple weeks- if your nearby....
By the way - NICE CAR !
