Spotted at Le Mans Classic last week a pair of matching flag mirrors on a 73RS. I wasn't sure these were ever available but......

I'm sure more experienced RS gurus will chime in but I'm pretty sure that Porsche only ever offered a lefthand mirror in this style for '72/'73.
Aftermarket stainless steel mirrors in this style (& in 2 different sizes) for both lefthand & righthand fitment are available from a number of sources such as Performance Products/Automotion.
I've not seen them close-up but I've heard that the quality is not up to the original standard.
This is from Performance Products catalogue:

Beware the quality on the Performance R-Hand flag mirrors. They were very sub-standard. I sent mine back the next day.
Not original but usefull. I lucked out and was able to get a good one from Performance to use on my RS. The holes were already drilled for a goofy european race mirror.
Best,
Don
Same here the I sent mine back as soon as the box was opened.Quote:

That car looks interesting.
How about some more pictures? Do you know the chassis number?

Here is a picture of the BMW mirror. It is excellent quality, easily equal to the original Porsche. If you look closely you can spot the difference, but it looks appropriate to the car--like Porsche could have just as easily chosen to use this mirror.
Hi Dick
Sorry but I don't have any more details on the car, it was just one of many 2.0s, 2.7 RSs, 2.8 RSRs, 3.0 RSs and 3.0 RSRs racing at the week end

Love that white/green color combination.
Looking at the size of the mirror, could be the '74 bigger one. I had them on my car, aftermarket for sure, and the glass fell out while driving. Found an original small '72/'73 LH mirror and put that one on. The holes on the RH door were welded.
I saw also a French RS (white/red) on the LeMans classic with smaller LH and RH mirrors. Quality of it looked fine to me, see if I can find a picture of it and will post that later.
Reed, Do you know which year and BMW model those mirrors are from? I agree, it's only the curved stem that gives them away. - Randy
The BMW flag mirror is from the 2002 model.
I have them on my 1973 Touring.
