last I HEARD THEY'RE ASKING $125,000 FOR THAT CAR--STANDARD S WITH NON ORIGINAL FLARES AND A PAINT JOB.......MY OH MY!IT NEVER WAS PETER GREGG'S PERSONAL CAR,JUST SALES HYPE FOR BROMOS BACK THEN
Looks a bit odd to me with big flares in the back and no flares up front.
They don't quite relate to each other.
BTW - always good to post photos to a thread along with link... for the archives. Links go away when cars are sold.
The following is from the June 1973 PORSCHE PANORAMA article entitled: An Interview with Peter Gregg:
Panorama: What is your personal Porsche like?
Gregg: My personal car is a 911S Sportomatic Coupe. I think Sportomatic is the neatest transmission ever devised. I like a soft ride with good handling, so I have standard torsion bars, but 19mm stabilizers instead of 15mm. I have enlarged fenders which allow Pirelli 215/60 tires on 8" rims at the front and 9" rims at the rear. My engine is standard, but carefully tuned, it pushes my car to 145 mph even with the enlarged fenders. Recently, I fitted the rear spoiler of the Carrera and Cibie iode headlamps. The rear spoiler aids top speed slightly. I normally drive a 911S for 6,000 miles before we sell it.
Alas, no VIN# in the article, no pic of the car...
Must be a different car. The one in the Ad has a 5 speed??? Anyway, the ad doesn't say anything about whether this is all original, repainted, rebuilt, or whatever????
Jared, I think you should consider the Brumos striping for your silver 73 .... I like it!
I think that Sporto was Tangerine(?). I seem to recall seeing pictures of it somewhere.
Tom
My point for the quote..."6,000 miles before we sell it"...who knows how many "personal" cars Peter Gregg drove in any particular year? Certainly not me...
I like this one
I'm no wheel expert, but I have some 6, 7 and 8 inch Fuchs laying around here and the fronts on the silver car don't look like 8's to me. Like Paul says, he must have claimed to "own" several cars. It doesn't appear that his narrative was about this one.
Exactly..............................Quote:

Would still love to own it.

Tom's right about the orange sporto. That car was driven on Dream Car Garage in an episode where Brumos provided a couple of cars and that's the story that they told. And the that RSR was at Amelia Sunday, check the pics on the other thread.
Also, someday there will be some similar questions about Hurley Haywood's personal 997. Well, when the hydraulic wing gave up on the Carrera GT during his demo runs for us on Friday, he emptied his stuff out his black, tiptronic, woodgrained interior, 997S to give the remainder of the group their rides. Not sure if that will raise the value of that car, but at least an eye witness account will be on record in the Early S archives. ;) :D
Saw that, nice pics. Is the price paid public knowledge?Quote:

The size and contour look bigger then Carrera flares to me ... and if I'm right on the wheel size, you can't fit a 15x9 with a standard Carrera/SC flare.... 16x9's work, but 15x9's don't.

Regarding Peter Gregg and the Sportomatic 1973 S:
During the recent Rennsport Reunion in Daytona I had the 73 S with sportomatic in the gang of 40 line up of '40 years of 911'. The orange 74 next to me belonged to Bob Snodgrass. During a couple of conversations, Bob related how Peter Gregg had mentioned many times how much he liked driving the sporto S. Said that he preferred the sportomatic over the five speed version.
Now all I have to do is figure out a way to find out if my 73 S sporto came through Brumos and was one of the Peter Gregg sporto S's. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I have the original owner's maroon maintenance log that came with car so I suspect not.
The Capitalist Roader
Chuck, you can fit a 9x15 under a rear SC/RS flare, but only with 225 tires max (this was what my white 911 had at Cambria 2002).Quote:

We struck up a conversation about driving 911's, a topic he quickly jumped into. I had a '65 at the time (302060, still remember the VIN....). He said he liked the early cars but didn't like driving them that much as they were a bit too tail happy, he liked the later pre-impact bumper cars. He mentioned the sportomatic and I was surprised, he said I should drive one and see why he liked them. Also said he always drove an S in the earlier years. Interesting guy. We had just turned to the page where his picture was when he started talking. We were surrounded by really big name drivers, Jackie Stewart etc, and nobody was talking to Peter so I think he felt a bit left out. I'm glad he did, it was a great conversation.
Guys,
For what its worth, I know Klubsport fairly well. Phil Bagley and Bruce Elsworth are the owners and their shop is top end. They are suppossed to be at Sebring with a few of their cars this weekend if anyone is in South Florida and wants to meet them. Phil is the sales guy. Bruce is the mechanic - both are very good at what they do.
They build great race cars for wealthy clients in the Palm Beach area and service some of the best early Porsches in South Florida. They are not know for being cheap or selling garbage. I don 't know anything about the Peter Gregg car or what its market value is, but I did see it in their shop last week last week when I was visiting. If they say its for real, chances are it is.
PS - They are not paying me for this plug. Hell, they're not even giving me a discount on anything -they charged me $180 for my Momo Prototipo 350mm back in December. Was that a deal?
Looks like this car is now for sale by the same person selling the Gulf Blue RS Lightweight #269. The asking price for the Gregg car is now $109K on the PCA website.

Those look like ST flares to me, I had a 72 with those and a set of 15 x 9's on the back, great car.
Phil
That is ST-flares. In some old book or some comtemporare magazins I remember reading about this car. It there was said to have RS-flares. Alas, not all writers the facts straight. A real cool car though.

The topic of discussion silver S is currently trucked away safe and sound here in WPB, FL. You'll find a pretty comprehensive write-up on it at

Although I have not had the pleasure of driving it, I've looked it over pretty closely on a couple of occassions, and in my opnion, it is in very nice condition.
let's try this link...

my bad, just noticed the link I just posted is included in the first post of this thread.
sorry :o
anyway, it's a nice example of an early S in my opinion.
Does anyone know if this 911S is still for sale? Please contact me at josephfawsitt@sbcglobal.net if you have information.
Thanks,
