Regisrty as a resource...
I joined the Regisrty as soon as I purchased my car. I was hoping to find as much information as I could specific to the "S" cars to assist me with my restoration. To a degree, I have found just that. The message board has been a great source of information. I follow others who are involoved in their own restoration projects carefully. I keep tabs on the sources for those hard to find items and service providers. I feast on the project pictures posted by other members.
The news magazine is a fine product. But even though it is well written, it frequently lacks the information portion that I crave. I read the write ups of events, but I feel like a total outsider. Unless you were at the event, the names, faces, and insider "jokes" miss the mark.
I'm sure some will be thinking "Get involved with the events and it will not miss the mark." I understand that. I try to attend as many PCA events as my schedule allows. Fitting in Registry events that are rarely in my area is next to impossible. And since my car is in pieces, driving my Toyota double cab to a Registry event wouldn't be much fun.
I would like to see more beginner type information on the cars. Focus on the restoration and care of certain elements across the various years. For example, restoration of the interior of a door. What are the differences from 66-73? How about Brake systems? What are the options? Steering wheels seem to be of great interest. How about an article devoted just to Rims? While technical information regarding compression ratios or gear ratios may be the cat's meow to some folks, it is lost on me. Perhaps a balance of information would attract more folks.
I'm relatively new here and certainly do not wish to step on any toes. I ceratinly do not know the history of the ideas that have already been attempted. I am just offering my perspective.
Thanks,
Joe
I'm sure this has been discussed before
some of the groups I belong to limit certain features of the forum to members only, often the ability to posted wanted and for sale items....this way, if you want to sell and item, you need to pay the $30 membership first...the only downside is it might reduce the number of items for sale.
I gladly spend the $30, it takes very little to justify the expense. I think the only reason not to do it is laziness....maybe accepting cresdit cards or at least paypal, even if there is a $1 or $5 surcharge would make it easier....but still, some will claim laziness....it is also possible to set up a recurring annual paypal payment, or subscription service....this is done by the registry folks, so the subscriber could select to join for one year, or to renew automatically.

A little lateral thinking...
Someone touched on the idea of advertising $$$. There are a couple of pp of business card ads and other ads in the last Esses, but no mention of advertising rates that I can see in the mag...please publish the rates in every edition and invite people to advertise in their club mag. It's a start and a way to maintain some continuing $$$ toward the mag production. We're all lazy(me too ;) )...I can't be bothered emailing to find out the ad. rates - if they were in print in every edition we'd be one step closer to more revenue I think.
I'm not sure how many of us visit the Early 911S Registry website, but it's another forum for advertising $$$. You can control the number and type of ads to a certain extent by setting some rules and publishing those along with the rates - hell we'd advertise on the site and in the mag and we're a long way away...but it's a way to support the Registry in a continuing sense. I'm sure you'd find that most advertisers would pay from year to year (takes a bit of credit control sure) once they took the plunge...
The donations are fantastic guys and if the registry will take a credit card payment Mike and I are in (costs more to get a bloody check drawn in USD than what it would be worth)...but I'd much prefer to be pledging to continuing advertising either in Esses or the website or this very board for that matter so you keep getting our money for a good cause!
Cheers,
Lisa

Let me know what my password is. :D Really, I have sent a certain dead president in the mail. This information base is far more valuable than that.
Tom B. I found my cell under my passenger seat...nice curves on the road to Prescott AZ. Few cells in the driver. Shawn.
