Looks like he's got an antifreeze leak on the front radiator.
Missing the oil flip lid. Otherwise, it looks like a nice deal based purely upon the supplied picture. I was wondering where they put the radiator on that thar thang...:p
Check out this silver '73T coupe. Very nice.:)

wow $45 grand out of the box for a 73 T that is some sweet $
where are earlier S's or for that matter E's going
The bid looks a bit fishy to me. Plus it's hard to believe someone would part with that sum for a CIS T.
It's all about condition and originallity. It doesn't matter whether it's a CIS T MFI T,E, or S.Quote:

A car is only original once. After it's been repainted and restored it's no longer original and can no longer command these kinds of prices.
The new owner just needs to find a set of Fuchs that match date wise.

I thought the CIS T's were such rare and wonderful cars that they are second in desirability to an S. wink wink nudge nudge
I think the desireability of the CIS T came as a result of the great expense required to make a worn MFI system right. It is a very reliable system, you'll find a similar one on the VW rabbit. :)
I saw that car in Portland. Any originallity was ruined by the detail shop that was hired to detail the car. They had half the car appart. They rattle caned the entire bottom of the car, put in aftermarket carpets, and made sure that every nut and bolt was put in the wrong place on the car. In additon the car had previous paint work, drivers side is several shades of silver. If your are interested make sure you get the owner on the phone, he will impress you with his lack of command for the english lauguage.

Thinking about it, I may have known this car when it was new...I sent seller a question, asking if he had the original owner's name. I also asked why the sticker specified MFI, and the car is obviously CIS...Quote:

hello. thank you for your email. and thank you for bringing the discrepancy
to my attention. sometimes you miss the most obvious things right under your
nose!
to answer your question: i have no idea why the window sticker says
mechanical fuel injection! one of the first things i did prior to purchasing
the car was to make sure the engine and various #s match all printed
documents, such as warranty voucher filled out by continental porsche at the
time of sale. of course, engine and chassis #s match! my mechanic went very
thoroughly over the car, and he tells me that if the FI had been swapped, he
would've known from looking at the heads/block/and whatever else (i
apologize, i'm not a mechanic, so i forget exactly what he told me when i
asked him today after receiving your email). unfortunately, the porsche
certificate of authenticity i sent away for has not yet arrived. the local
porsche dealership tells me that there have been reported incidents of
erroneous printing of window stickers, especially near the transition period
when the T changed injection system ~mid year.
i will look into this further and email you as soon as i have more info.
thank you again for bringing it to my attention. i don't know how many times
i looked at that window sticker...and to have missed such obvious...
a concourse judge/interested buyer is flying up to inspect the car in the
next few days, so i'm sure he will help shed some light on the situation.
also, the car is almost sold, as i am in the final stages of negotiation
with the buyer. thank you.

Was purchasing a 73 CIS a mistake?
NO! not a mistake in my opinion. The last of the old body and first of the new injection. On my second 73.5 T and both have been great cars. Your driving style determines what you will enjoy ( I drive vintage cars a little easier than modern cars) but the CIS is a easy to drive and live with. Enjoy it, Looks like you bought a beauty.
Daron
If you have second thoughts Mike , later on, id be intrested in it, its a real nice car. Enjoy it first and let us know. Shes real nice.
I've had many hot rod porsches. I'm ready to just tool around. The car is cool and Eric was a terrific guy to deal with. I was just fishing for your comments :)

Car was repainted. See new pics.
"This is a very nice start to a 911 R or Carrera RS replica. Because of its California history, this beauty is almost rust free. It has the normal patina of surface rust on the pan but absolutely no structural anomalies.
Health issue forces sale of this newly painted, non sun roof coupe. Paint was completed just two months ago and truly shows the craftsmanship of the painter.
The color is a very rare maroon. The interior is also fresh leather and shows an old school RS light weight look (carpeting and no rear seat). Dash is newly covered in leather to match the rest of the interior.
The front fenders are light weight fiberglass as are both front and rear bumpers.
The engine condition is unknown except that it runs great and has only minor moisture. The carburetors were replaced with the ever popular 40mm Webers and they seem in great shape. The clutch and transmission work perfectly. The wheels are factory Fuchs alloy from a 70 911 E. There are turbo valve covers and a front strut brace rounding out this nice little project.
If you are looking for a show quality example of a long hood Porsche 911 this is not it but it is also priced far less. Buy this gem add a little TLC and your own finishing touches and you'll have a car to be proud of."

I appreciate all the work you go thru in collecting and posting the ebay sales. Thanks for doing that. I was wondering if you have any analysis of all this data? Have you detected any patterns or reach any conclusions from all these sales? One thing that strikes me is how many molested, unstock, sad stories are out there, selling for cheap. It makes it clearer to me why stock perserved cars go for so much -- they are few and far between.
Here's a box plot on 54 complete auctions for 911T's. It shows a median of about $10,000 with outliers as large as $47,000 and as small as $2,000...
Thanks but what is the box? 95% conf. intervals? std.err.? std.dev.?
Key Features of Boxplots:
The box is formed by vertical lines at the first quartile (25th percentile), median or second quartile (50th percentile), and third quartile (75th percentile).
The red mark is the mean (or average).
The interquartile range (IQR) is the width of the box (third quartile - first quartile).
Whiskers extend both to the right and the left of the box. The whisker on the right extends to the greatest value that is less than the third quartile + 1.5 IQR. The whisker on the left extends to the smallest value that is greater than the first quartile – 1.5 IQR.
Mild outliers are between 1.5 and 3.0 IQRs from the box (hollow boxes).
Extreme outliers are more than 3 IQRs from the box (solid boxes).

So what can be concluded after all this data about the current price for a T?
On a scale from 1-5 would this be an approximation (see below)?
5 - $15,000
4 - $12,000
3 - $10,000
2 - $7,000
1 - $3,000
$3000 is basically a rusty roller.
It seems like an excellent original T is going to be in the $20k or $30k range. The very best cars would be higher than that.
Yeah; doesn't anyone remember the top notch $35K 'T'?

How many times has the above car been for sale?
I'm sure its been on ebay at least 5-6 times over the past 2 years or so.... can't remember if its always the same seller or if keeps changing hands..
Took a look at the above red 911 a few months ago in Seattle myself, it was really rotten. Rust all over, suspension pick up points gone etc etc. Owner wanted to sell it for about 9k because he moved back to Sweden. I told him after a minute that the car is hopeless and he'd better have it fixed before trying to sell or he would risk a law suit from the next owner....:(
Don't shoot the messenger! :p

Slightly off topic, but has anybody checked the "Market Update" on early 911s in the new issue of Excellence? Where do they get these numbers? Reality shows them to be at least 40% above what cars actually sell for. It's so inflated it seems ridiculous.
Are you saying the Excellence numbers are high? In my experience they are 30 - 40% LOW. I would buy perfect 911S cars until there were none left at Bruce's prices. Trouble is, there are none for sale at that price.
Ebay is a joke for rare cars, except in unusual instances. I'd never sell my car there because serious buyers are so hard to come by. Every nice 911 I have seen on Ebay either doesn't meet a fair reserve or gets relisted due to dead beat bidders. I'd prefer not to pay $150 to list a car multiple times.
I guess it could be true that the S bodies are getting more than the Excellence lists, but the numbers put up for any E or T designations are pretty high. For instance, he lists a 1972 911T in "GOOD" condition (this is the lowest grade they give) as $13,000. You and I both see this car bought and sold regularly for well under $10,000 in decent driver condition. How do they arrive at $13k?
As for ebay, I've sold a few cars on ebay, the most recent being a VERY rare '51 356 Coupe, and have had nothing but good results and high selling prices. And of the $15,000 in parts we've sold on ebay this month, there has only been one bidder who flaked.
I think the ebay stigma is left over from a few years ago when everything you said about it was true. From where I sit, ebay is fetching top dollar for these sellers. You would never sell your car there, and you would be missing out. Ebay may be a cold, technological way to sell something as passionate as a Porsche, but it works.
I think the 356 market is still a different beast than the early 911 market. They are getting closer, but not yet there. I am glad you've had good luck, but I keep hearing too many horror stories. Maybe I just listen too much.

First of all, thank you, for compiling these sales results. I find it interesting and confounding. To ease my troubled mind, I could not resist wasting an hour to reach my own conclusions. A quick glance shows why the average sales prices in Excellence, etc are so weighted down -- the low end sales of rollers, rust buckets and siezed engines overwhelms the few pristine examples. It is amusing that many of us that own early 911s want to insist that prices are higher than actual sales figures support -- what we probably mean is that if you have a "REALLY nice" 911T it might be worth $25k, but the vast majority of Ts are not really nice. The psychology of the rare $25k-$40 sale masks the vast majority taking place in the $10-15k range.

Here's a couple to add. My own personal data.
72' T Coupe
Bought for $5500. Socal car. Only rust was the bottoms of the windshields and the rear deck. Tired motor and tranny. None matching numbers. Had fiberglass rear turbo flares that I removed and welded on stock flares.
Rebuilt motor 72' 2.4T MFI and replaced with good used tranny 72' 915.
The unibody was bent on the passenger side from previous collision repaired incorrectly. Sold for the value of the parts.
$6500
73'T Targa
New Mexico car. No chassis rust, none. Rust in headlight bucket and front fender bottoms. I'm the 4th owner.
Has a 87' 3.2 Euro motor rebuilt 10k miles ago. RS flares. Straight, tight chassis never wrecked. Mechanically perfect. No issues. Tired Black paint. Original color was Metallic Gold. (Is currently having a bare metal repaint in Glasurit single stage Irish Green.)
Bought on Ebay for $7300.
Yeah, I stole it. I love this car.

Notes: "You are bidding on an extremely clean 3 owner 1973 Porsche 911T targa. The body is super straight, absolutely accident and rust free.It was repainted in the early eighties and the paint still looks great today. All panels fit as from the Porsche factory and have never been removed or tampered with. The car originally came from Newport Beach California, it was purchased from the original owner and imported to British Columbia in 1986. In 2000 with the odometer showing 40000miles a 1987 911 Porsche 3.2 litre engine came available when a PCA member upgraded his 20000 mile Cabriolet to a turbo engine. The 87 3.2 was installed into the 73 by a professional Porsche tech at "900 WORKS" in Kelowna BC.Cost of this conversion was $20000 plus another$4600 in brake and suspension upgrades to handle the increased horsepower. This car looks stock but performs as a newer 3.2 litre car should. There are no cracks in the original dash,it is not a cover, door panels are very nice, driver seat has some seem separations and a tear on the side bolster, there are two small blemishes in the paint just below the word Targa on each side of the car, about half the size of a dime each and could be spotted in at a proper paint shop, carpets rear seats ,glass and chrome are close to perfect, air blows cold and has been converted to new system, 4 wheel disc brakes form an 87 911,newer tires on 15", 7" and 6" polished rims, all under panels are untouched with factory undercoating no dents and no rust or repairs.S trim package with factory aluminum threasholds and chrome wheel arch trim, all original decals intact, included with car is the complete original tool kit, steering wheel, owners manual and pouch, appraisal, inspection, radio and original cable driven speedometer as car was converted to an electronic speedometer which was reset to the correct mileage when the conversion was completed by N. Hollywood Speedometer.I am an executive with PCA and have been involved in driving and collecting Porsche for 20 years. This is a low mileage car that has lived in a garage all it's life so all rubber parts and chrome are in fantastic condition, car is tight and solid, everything works properly, doors close tight with no rattles, windows are solid showing no wear in the mechanisms."

Notes: "1973 Slant Nose Turbo Look 3.0l - $31k Conversion. The motor is from an 83 , and is the 3.0 Euro Spec engine"
"This Stunning Beauty is my 1973 Porsche 911 (TURBO style BODY) Updated and Upgraded throughout with the SLANTNOSE (935 style) WIDEBODY conversion which if you don't already know is Extremely rare and is much nicer looking than just a plain Widebody (turbo body look). This also is the STEEL NOSE conversion set-up...NOT SOME low quality Fiber-Poly kit. The odometer shows around 108k Miles, but almost everything on the car has been replaced or upgraded, and Nothing is "OLD", including the Motor! It has a Freshly installed UNMOLESTED (STOCK)1983 911-SC motor and needless to say it Runs and drives Perfectly with 100 percent compression and no leaks. In fact, I would say without hesitation that it could even be relied on as a daily driver with little to no further investment.. The Motor as I said is from a 1983 911 SC and is the Virtually trouble free 3.0 litre SC motor. It was purchased and installed at a cost of around $5100 about a year ago (I have the receipt and paperwork from the shop that did it here locally and will furnish it to the winner as well). The car Even has an A/C system installed in it, but it doesn't work, and hasn't since I've owned it. I also had the BOSCH starter replaced at a cost of nearly $700 less than 4 months ago. The list goes on and on as to what all has been replaced , not to mention that the car also has a Beautiful -(NEW) interior (also completely redone and upgraded and customized in black (Black Carpet, Black Racing style seats, black dash, black door panels with Power tinted windows, black trim, etc. (w/some nice blue trim too to complement the paint color) The interior work has all been done within the last year. CHECK OUT THE PICS!. New carpet, gauges, Custom PORSCHE TURBO floormats (TURBO S), Porsche badged racing seats, etc. It also has the well respected trouble free SC 5 speed transmission . The Paint was done in last year (COBALT Blue,) It looks good, but there are two areas that should be addressed: the right rear (FLARE) quarter panel, and the hood. They (the hood and the Rear right side flare) have a few cracks from when the clearcoats were being applied, but for the most part are no big deal and could be fixed for a few hundred bucks. (see for yourself in the pictures). This Aggressive looking Slantnose has become So rare and uncommon that people literally don't know what type of Porsche it is and will come up to you All the time and ask you "what type of Porsche" it is...Probably because You just don't ever See SLANTNOSE Wide-body 911's Anywhere Anymore!...AND ESPECIALLY AT THIS LOW Of a RESERVE PRICE!!! These cars have always been (and Always will be) absolute head-turners, and it is NOT the car for you if you don't like attention. It is even badged as a TURBO S with 2007 Turbos S badging, and it even has the appropriate slantnose "STROSEK" wing on the back and actual fiberglass FINS on the side air intakes. This Car is Truly Rare and has the potential to make anyone drool, . Furthermore The Car has tons of cosmetic Extras like a MOMO steering wheel, BRAND NEW Porsche Badged Racing seats,Euro style "PORSCHE" front license plate, porsche tire valve covers, chrome gauge bezel rings, Faux(fake) panel switches and faux turbo gauges on the passengers side, etc. etc. The Stereo has been removed, but i still have it and will include it if the winning bidder wants it. To sum it up... I have a small FORTUNE invested in this car and am VERY sad to sell it, but i need to! that being said, My reserve is shockingly low for a rare and beautiful 911 like this...( in fact the reserve is a FRACTION of the $$$$$ that has been spent on it). ALSO One more IMPORTANT detail for your consideration- The car comes with the traditional Porsche Mag Wheels that you see on it right now with good tires too, as seen in the pictures....BUT...... I Also have an AWESOME set of CUSTOM MADE 19" Widebody Rims (no tires) that I never got a chance to mount. They are HUGE and are absolutely Stunning!!! And in my opinion when they are mounted they will Make this car a DREAMCAR!...See the pictures!!! I paid a TON of $$$ for the Rims ALONE- from Wheelznet"
