Boy, if you love old Porsches and have unlimited funds, what an auction this would be...
No way to decide between this bunch, you'd just have to buy all eight. At the very least the '67 R, the '71 ST and the '72 RS prototype (presumably the orange car, it has a 1972 oil flap). Load them all in the transporter, and then drive the '97 Turbo S back home. That's what I'd call a good weekend...
I wonder whose collection these cars are coming from.

I think the signal yellow RS prototype (it was originally supposed to be called a 911 S 2.7) was restored by Dave Mohlman but I don't know if he sold it or not.
It may be another car, but a couple of years ago Mohlmann was selling a near perfect RS lightweight clone - also Signal yellow. Sold in Florida and then resold to a buyer in California, I think. Price was $70k to the first buyer.
myself and a partner will be bidding;but I'm not too excited as I already owned (abarth carrera,carrera spdster,904) or own most of them now (911R,911ST,RS CARRERA)
The RS prototype is pictured on page 60 and 61 of the Carrera RS book. It was built with a '72 body so it has the right side oil door. A significant car for sure.

I am pretty sure this is not the car Mohlmann sold from Florida.
So what other colors did they build the R,s, i did not know they came in yellow, seen white , silver and blue.
It looks like the R and 904 prototype are coming from G&W in VA. I'm sure sithot can elaborate a little more on this. He posted these photos to earlyS or Pelican awhile ago:Quote:

The yellow 911R is R#4 - the 4th of the 4 prototypes.
It was restored in the UK a few years ago (& still bears its UK registration number) & has changed hands a number of times since.

RM Auctions has a few ready to cross the block in Monterey as well. Have a look at this 1953 356 America Roadster (it was shown this spring at Amelia in the Concours) estimated to sell for $750k to $950k. (pictures below)

Here are some photos I took of the RM America Roadster at the 2005 356 ECH.
Next to the beautiful 356A Carrera's and the Speedsters at the East Coast Holiday it seemed as if the America Roadster's designers hadn't finished the job.:eek:
I will be in Monterey. The ex-Dick Barbour roadster was accepted to the race and we plan on attending most of the auctions.

You're right the S/T has dissapeared. Or it was sold privately, or the owner changed is mind, or there was a problem with the car. Since I work for Christie's, I'll ask my colleagues from the car department and will let you know...

Ran LeMans 1971 with Ritchie Ginther, Alan Johnson, Elliot Forbes-Robinson, under 1900 lbs., 285hp, 180mph on Mulsanne Straight, alloy doors, decklid, glass hood, frt. fenders. Fully restored by David Morse with a full write up on the resto in Oct. '98 Excellence. Detailed top to bottom. Totally set up and dialed in for the track. Incredible car with great history. Has FIA papers, and eligible for almost everything.

My thought is this style of plate was an early replacement version (K.G.) for those that needed a new plate because the type is not embossed but instead is a blank box so it can be stamped in like the VIN and it's not from 1978.:rolleyes:
