No affiliation - just stumbled upon it. Nice original car.

It sure looks like a car I used to own.
Somebody in the midwest had it last if it's the same car.
Tom
Car belongs to one of our board members.
It's got an R Gruppe badge on the grill in the photos.
wonder how much $?
OMG that is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen......
You know it's really a crazy world we live in.
I was thinking that I would gladly trade my '88 minty 930S (M505) for this car. It's got only 47K miles and is near perfect. The car was well over $100K when new whereas this S was probably around 1/10th of that when it was new.
Yet today to close the deal I'd still have to bring a bundle of cash to the table.....
I notice that the paint code plate was removed. Wonder what the story is there if the car was not re-painted. I assume the plate was placed after factory paint so there should be a nice square patch right?
This is THE car; these are my photos and others I've gleaned hither and yon.
2 owners after me I "heard through the grapevine" that the Paterak Brothers did some work on the doors. For what reason I do not know.
IF the right front fender isn't rubbed through on the edge it's been painted.
The car was ALL original paint when I had it. There were numerous rub-throughs. The front end should have been sprayed but I suppose that original is original but once.
One owner was Pete Bartelli (2x I believe). A broker had it a couple of times, G&W too and it sat on the lot at The Stable for nearly a year.
It was a hell of a nice car and ran like a wailing banshee. 3rd synchro was worn before and after me but slowed shifts took care of that.
The mileage should be real.
Tom
Okay raise your right hand and repeat after me:
"I (next owner of this gem) will not, even under thread of torture, repaint the original paint on this car and replace the original seals and become the biggest kunckle head in the world".:D
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1225764531.jpg
This is one of the most honest early 911s I know of, a true gem that is indeed almost all original paint and has its original seals and, yes Tom, he runs like a banshee.:)
I love Irish Green... My brother's 66 was Irish Green. I wanted that car so badly but he sold it out from under me.
I hate my brother... ;)
Ok...
This is gospel...
There are very few previously owned cars on this registry with pedigree. This car is one of them, if so says Tom aka Sithot.
Tom's legend is longer than he has been alive... ;) but I trust him without reserve. I've known about this car for many years, and I'm glad it's surfaced to be be documented.
Buy this car without reservation!!!!!
Eric
Did a price ever surface?
Even w/ today's exchange [1.26ish].......this one is going to be pricy....
Oh no, Gramps is for sale?! I second Brian's sentiments - if the next owner does anything with this car other than drive and wash it, they should be beat. This is a no excuses original car that drives like a dream and yes Tom, you just have to not rush the shift into second.:) I really like this car and wish it could stay in the Midwest.
Price is 92k.
Long way from $19.6 paid in 1999.
Tom
My memory is fair and I'd swear that second was good; it was 3rd for me. I ran it the way it was intended and it always asked for more.
I was only a bit pissed when I learned that "a well known broker" removed the R Seat from it before he sold it. Dead wrong.
It had that seat when I got it and it was in it when I sold it (along with the original). There is a lesson here in honesty and fair play.
Car should sell in the $50's. If it brings more I'll eat humble pie. Brian Fryar's (Patrick) recent aquistion (off E-Bay) at $68K is a great example. No disrespect but $92K is a fishing trip. Patrick is better documented.
Tom
Was Curtisaa also one of the previous owners of this car?
Not for 92K.
Best,
Tom
If that Average car (crappy paint, no seats, etc..) had brought anywhere near 92k, both of my 70 S would be for sale immediately
I can safely say that most, if not all, who know this car would not call it 'Average' or even close to that description.
I look forward to seeing you cars for sale then.:)
Brian,
I made my comment based on the photos in this thread and the trusted opinion of TWO (2) of the previous owners who said "it is an average (but well kept) car".
So, unless a restoration has occurred since their ownership, I have no reason to doubt their opinion ..........
But thanks for your opinion.:p
Hmmmmm........ I need to draw a conclusion here
This car sold for $92K [not stated but insinuated], There were multiple parties interested, yet the car wasn't as nice as Brian's "Patrick" which was purchased for just under $70K. Oh yeah and Tom is having pie and about everyone is bringing ice cream except maybe Baron who has got some cars for sale.....
Did I get this right?
Brian's "Patrick" is certainly nicer than this one. Baron has numerous cars that I can vouch for as being a helluva lot nicer as I have seen them.
I'm not bashing the car and while it may have sold for a lot of money I believe SCM would state: "Well Sold".
Are you guys sure an AIG exec didn't blow some (G.C.M.) Government Cheese Money on this one? I mean, they are handing it out as fast as they can spend it.
"Holy Moly!" "We can't go to Geneva and blow $400,000 on a perk so let's buy some vintage cars that we'll assign as "company" cars to prove we are being frugal. That'll slide under the (blind ass) Congressional radar easier." :p
Best,
Tom
Who's to say anymore?
Don't sweat it Raj. Dave is just brainstorming a fund raiser. I have been making love eyes at the yellow car......
Just enjoy the cars. =)
How about I call it what it really is? A driver. It's a 3.
Tom
Threads such as this become discussions that allow me to enjoy another aspect of the cars. While to many it might be about ego, to other's like myself the economic valuing of the early cars is as interesting as turning a wrench. I also find the current economic times challenging to understand but nonetheless very interesting. [I am against direct government intervention.]
The tone on this thread is a tone that I have come to expect and enjoy. Most who post their cars for sale on the internet understand the scrutiny cars receive here. I do think it is a good thing and has a positive influence. Quite frankly, sometimes I do not even understand what is being said, but I have asked Santa for a Latin dictionary.
With that being said the knowledge here while tinted through many sets of eyes and different perspectives is of expert caliber.
As for woman I have come to appreciate the more full bodied....
I guess the good ones don't last long in any market. Took all of 2 weeks to find a new owner! :D
From June of this year:
Very interesting point here Luke and I think it applies to another recently started topic. Two cars, a 67S targa and 67S coupe, both listed for sale by the same person. One listed on this board and the other listed only on ebay (full disclosure -- after much discussion the first time it was listed). This action is certainly a tribute to the creditability of this board and highlights the shifty-ness of this seller.
Quite frankly, I think Pelican has a very good policy to not allow any comments on cars for sale. Who cares about the opinions here of viewers ? Most of the malidiction is started by the same people just to be controversial. It's not like members here have driven to the S Registry showroom and test-driven these cars for sale and then given their opinions. It's rubbishish-in & rubbish-out.
I care about the opinions of the members here. Pelican is a dictatorship. I have learned almost everything I know about early 911s from this board. Now granted, that's not much, but if a muzzle is placed on all comments, then my learning, along with everyone else's learning that values this board will cease.
If only a few people create the "controversial" comments, then regular users learn to take what they say with a grain of salt. I believe the tough love attitude of this board keeps it from becoming ebay. And besides, a little controversy never hurt anyone. Bottom line, if you are going to post a car for sale here, you better have your stuff together and can describe every flaw or non-original part or be prepared for that "tough love."
malediction.............another new word................
mal·e·dic·tion
NOUN:
1] invocation of evil; a cursing; curse or imprecation; opposed to benediction.
2] a speaking of evil about someone; slander.
Yikes, serious sh#t.
I like the nature of this board. It is interactive, informative and entertaining the Pelican style is just a listing. The down side is it might cost the community the opportunity to view all offerings. The upside is the posters will only post accurately or suffer the wrath of the knowledgable.
As far as the malediction it is just part of the entertainment!
Jason,
Not to say anything one way or the other regarding the seller who has two 1967 S cars for sale, but my guess would be the coupe is not posted for sale by him here as it's an auction, and our rules dictate you state an asking price. Do you think that is the reason?
Malediction.(SP) .50 words deserve to be spelled correctly. ;)
I'm a straight shooter. Car lots, brokers, dealerships and shady sellers are fair game. Magazines like SCM do this with impunity. Being a sycophant is not something I want to be known for.
What was said about this car is the absolute truth and it should not have been distorted into anything hurtful as I never said it was a bad car. It is a #3 but that's not a bad thing if you understand that most of us are in 3's. NOBODY is driving a #1 car. And, as for Randy I say: "Well Sold".
Move on.
Tom
Fair statement for the faithful.
Tom
Hi Tom,
Jurgen here, I am the one who actually sold Gramps on consignment. So by your definition, I am fair game, as I am working as a broker.
Now after all is said and done on this, I still think you should at least acknowledge, that your idea of the market was inaccurate and my was correct. Granted, you never said Gramps is a bad car, but that is not the point. What you did do was creating a notion that some greedy dealer is out on a roll and the car isn't worth it. You should have known, that this can actually hurt the sale of a car tremendousely and I just wonder if that is what the members of this board should do to fellow members.
In the end, all of us take advantage of constant and stable prices and we should be happy if things keep going. Many things don't in todays world.
By saying the things you said, you had at least a large percentage of this board convinced, that this is a 50k car.
Well, it seems the market is of a different opinion isn't it?
Whoever called Gramps an average car with no seats let me respond:
I am brokering classic cars for a little while now and would like to make this announcement.
If any of you out there owns a rustfree, #matching S Coupe (1967-1973) and the car is as nice and original (including paint)as Gramps and you agree to let it go in the 50's, pleeeeease call me!! Now!!
Oh, one last word, yes, Brians Patrick is a wonderful car and Brian did extremely well on the purchase. Just don't think that this is the market.
The market is, what someone is willing to pay at a given time for a merchandise.
And Gramps had at least two parties willing to pay for it's condition.
Case rested.
Jens baby, you're my new hero !
