BTW, you now owe me. :)
I saw them earlier today... Do you think they'll fit?!
You'll need 65 to 67 headlight assemblies.
The biodes are a 7 inch assembly. There's no "odd" size bulb that's similar to a 7 inch. The only other odd size is the Cibie hood mount light, and it's not even close in size.
The only question that I recall with these is the depth of the bulb. There's a thread on these lights, and also the Carello and Marchal Amplilux (both dual lamp bulbs). Raj (Varunan) showed pics with all the bulbs, I don't think the depth of the Biode ended up being an issue.
You may want to do a search for "safety". I've run both the Carello and Amplilux with no issues.
Here's the thread, and the first pic shows the fit, shouldn't be an issue. That's a 65 to 67 assembly....(as is the first pic on this current thread).

I'm concerned with this post from Mike Moore. I believe he is referencing the light currently available on eBay.
Thanks Raj, there must be more than one size of Cibie Biode unit!
Here's mine measured up against the headlight fitting and you can see it's too big. Also note the 4 tabs on the back, yours has 3.
Here's my boide unit against a modern 7" cibie and again its much bigger.
I stand corrected....appears there could be an issue. I wonder if it's a bulb "built" for a Renault or Citroen. The 2CV has it's own lights for instance. I also see that Mike's lights have a provision for a "citybulb", which is interesting, as I wouldn't expect to see that on a high performance bulb.
Regarding the ebay lights, he's a good seller, fluent in English and I've bought some lights from him in the past. Ask for the measurements and go from there.
Hi Stu, yes, you're right to be cautious there are at least two different sizes of the cibie biode, I found out the hard way!
The ones on ebay are the larger 190mm versions, you need the 180mm (7") ones. I have photographed them both side by side below, you can easily see the difference. From the rear again you see the 4 mounting lugs on the larger one as opposed to the 3 on the smaller Porsche fitting one.

Persevere with your search, it took me quite a while and there are sharks out there who will ask for crazy money, but hopefully you may find a true enthusiast as I did who wants to help, as you can see from below it will be worth it!

Mike,
Thanks for your insightful post and your previous thread. Because of your information, I was able to avoid falling into the same trap a few months ago. The French (Citroen biodes) and the Germans don't mix :p
Your lights look great! Nice to hear a fellow enthusiast was able to help you out.
Mike thanks for all the groundwork... I almost bought a set of the Citroen bulbs last night - but figured I needed to asky y'all for words of wisdom. Seems weird that there would be two sizes so close to each other...
That said....
I NEED A SET OF BIODES! (please)
Stu
Stu,
I checked today for you and no Biodes in the house. I do have a number of other very cool performance bulbs that would be period correct, albeit not quite as hot as the biode setup. I've got an NOS pair of the CIBIE 27 (I'm going by memory on the part#, but they are the early 7" bulb (old logo) that are concave faced. Also have some pairs of Marchals and Carellos and of course Hella, including a pair of H1, H4 Euro, and H4 US (that also fit in early 911/912 light assys). Also have a decent pair of Carello 4-inch (I think) driving lights in chrome housings.
Almost forgot, I have a pair of CIBIE IODE driving lights, bulbs only. I'm no expert, but I was told they were used on rally cars of that period. They're cast in the same pattern as the biodes but smaller in diameter and only one bulb that comes in off center.
Let me know if any of those are of interest for any of your other projects.
Matt
EDIT: I said conVEX when I meant conCAVE regarding the NOS pr of CIBIE...
Matt -
I'm always interested in cool vintage and unique "accents". Can we talk in the AM?
Stu
Stu, Adam's going down to Dick Hyland's tomorrow and I'm not sure I'll be at the shop at all. But give a ring and we can hold hands and walk through what's on the shelf. I'll definitely be there Friday.

Still looking...
