That car was at Ventura 2 weeks ago. Very nice !:D
Within the last two years 4 number matching softies traded over $100,000 w/ a high of $150,000 for a perfect low mileage car out of the bay area. If this car is indeed as Curt stated "very nice" and he has seen enough to know, do we have a reflection of an adjusted marketplace or a buying opportunity?
How would this car grade out? Say in relation to the Hopkins/Cabel softie?
Luke,
I sent you an email.
"This S is numbers matching, rust-free and collision-free."
Ok mystery solved, non-matching number despite ebay ad proclaiming different. This is the car sold a couple of years ago out of the east. Price is more reflective of value considering the car.
It looks very nice but it is missing some easilly fixed details which may lead to possible other details which would surface in a personal inspection. The engine decals are wrong. It's missing the wiper arms and blades. The paint under the engine grill is not satin black. I suspect a lot of other details may be incorrect also.
Beautiful car.
Only question:
Those lovely seats have plugs for head rest bayonets, and appear to be R and L (not both L as on 67) indicating that the seats are not '67 sports. Does the CoA indicate that this was originally a sport seat optioned car?
As per the seats, the ad said,"mostly original". Is that Frank G`s old car?
It`s here for $89,000. Advertised as numbers matching! http://www.caporsche.net/carsforsale.html
Here's another Softie, a '68 original panel Tangerine, that looks like a bargain to me. I share the theory that these cars will be strong from a market standpoint at some time in the future. They look great, they're fun to drive - and they are *rare*. Not many made (307 911L Soft Window Targas in 1968!) and many rusted away. I don't know about Speedster level desirability, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them achieve a Convertible D / Roadster level.
Cheers,
JohnA
I passed it up at $16K in Oct. 2005. Ian ended up buying (I believe his offer was $20K about week and half later) and offered it on ebay in Feb. '06, and it did not make the reserve at $22,655 (ended early). I think it sold outside of ebay to Frank.
I believe Frank sold it on ebay for $80K in May '08 under Item #270233690799.

I remember this car as well. Stallone is right. Frank certainly cleaned it up nicely. Sports seats are not original as can be seen by the headrest tabs on the seat tops. The headrests should have no holes on top for headrests since the 67 model year sport seats used head rolls with brackets attached to the seat backs.
Regardless, it's hard not to like an irish green 67 S in this condition. Every car Frank touches ends up getting royal treatment. If I were an old Porsche needing TLC, I would want Frank to buy me. ;)
The seats are the knock-off seats. Not matching numbers...I don't know. I like that tangerine car that John linked.
