Pile that stuff up on the curb and 1,000 people would pass just a pile of old JUNK!
Unless people know exactly what they are looking at most Vintage Car Parts have absolutely no value to most people and are considered nothing but old junk to be thrown away!
Even the experts sometimes walk right past a pile of platinum thinking it is aluminum!...
I remember at a Vasek swap meet (a LONG time ago) when I spotted (4) NOS 904/906 alloy wheels that had been sitting there for over a hour with hundreds of Porsche experts walking right past them thinking that they were just plain steel wheels! I even counter offered $100 when the seller said they (Vasek) wanted $125.... The dumby parts guy from Vasek also thought that they were just steel wheels :p A lot of guys were REALLY pissed when they realized that they screwed up....
Now I label the rare parts packed in the garage because if I were to get hit by a truck I would hate to think that my kids threw away things like a perfect aluminum deck lid or a NOS dash because they did not realize what it was worth!
I have repeatedly told both of my kids that even though it just looks like greasy old parts those greasy parts could be a down payment on a house...
Edmayo... The decklid is not Aluminum...
Sorry EDMAYO,
The perfect decklid is actually an ALUMINUM alloy:D
OH this story gets better
I run a early 911 group in new zealand with a fellow 911s reg member 911kiwi. When i got this gear i had a group member in mind who has a wrecked 911E that was once raced by neil alport in new zealand ( google him ) . he found the car in the sth and purchased it and is currently restoring it .
So i email him but in the mean time he see's the post and photo and rings me " what do you know about the seats as my car had hounds tooth sport seats in it when it left the factory " **** :eek:could this gear after 25 years be the stuff out of his car?? we compare notes on the paint work on the deck lid ....looks correct.
So i can't resist and call up the seller and meet him at his work for further details . He advises that the car body was indeed given to a guy to rally etc... and the name mckenzie rings a bell , that name appears to be something the current owner has also heard ....
I advise the parts seller if there is anything else let me know no matter how small , oh i just chucked a box of bits in the bin outside !!! **** in to the bin in my work clothes and fish out another box full ( visors , bolts, coil , body plugs ...).
I ring up the car owner " yep it's your cars past interior!!!
now what are the odd's  we will now reunite the bits back to the car
UPDATE as i write this i just had another call and he has the oringial jack!!! i'm on my way
