Updated with Air Filters below....The day before Hershey (19 April), my special package arrived from Kundensport. Ed Palmer created a set of Porsche 908 air boxes for the 1972-73 MFI stackes. The real 908's were designed for the 8 cylinder. Ed sized them for the MFI and created them to use the original clips.

You need the outer hose on your heat hose to the thermostat, supposed to be an inner and an outer for better heat transfer.
Is that what the outer is for? I always assumed it was there to protect the inner paper hose from the elements.Quote:

Those look nice but I'm at a los to figure out what they do? There is no filtration and don't they affect the induction?
A very neat looking setup but I wouldn't run a street car "unfiltered". (Race engines get rebuilt regularly.) I don't really like K&N filters UNLESS you follow directions by keeping them clean and oiled. They flow more for a reason but it comes at a price if you are not fastidious about maintenance.

Thanks for the comments and tips. Just call Ed at Kundensport and place your order. I saw his concept on the 911 ST, white in color where he used them on the 1969-71 MFI stacks. I asked for a base that fit the 72-73 stacks and Ed created them. All I had to remove was the rubber seal in the tops of the stacks to allow the base to fit in and clamp down using the stock clips. Drove the car up to Hershey and showed them to the Pelican Parts gang that linked-up at the crab shack. I must find a filter similar shape to the K&N, but rather have paper like the standard Frame and toss away every year.
I'll remove them and take photos of the base and inside.

FOR THOSE CONCERNED ABOUT THE MISSING AIR FILTERS -
I received two round 9 inch x 2 inch Spectre HPR air filters today from Jeggs (best price at $16.99 each & free S/H).
They fit "perfect" and now street safe. Kundensport in CA makes these, just call Ed Palmer and place your order and then order the air filters from Jeggs. Now I can enjoy the performance, sound, and when viewing the engine...see the entire MFI system. The stock plastic air box will go in moth balls.

The shortened 908 air boxes are awesome, cool idea.

I called Kundensport awhile back after finding this thread and had Ed send me a pair of his 908 style air cleaners. They come without filters and I used the recommended ones above which seem to work just fine. Overall, a pretty neat look and something a little different that works with stock MFI injection pumps.

It's pretty loud but, to be honest, the intake noise is drowned out by the Liestritz 2-out sport muffler I'm running.....
Either way, I know its louder than a stock air box and it sounds great in my opinion.

Since Porsche is somewhat famous for their airbox designs... doesn't this impact torque and drivability? At the very least I'd expect that you'd need to re-calibrate the MFI pump.
It’s possible there might be some impact but the only way to know would be a dyno comparison I guess (or seat of the pants feel?). How big is the difference between a stock air box and a more open induction system with regard to power / torque? I will say the car has pretty good torque and drivability in its current setup so I’m not sure how much noticeable difference there would be switching to a stock air box.
The MFI pump was set up with a modified space cam to work with the DC40 camshafts and the engine displacement / compression ratio so that shouldn’t be an issue. I still need to hook up my temporary AFR gauge and check / adjust the MFI fuel flows to see if any are needed.
