Unusual Porsches
Hi All...
I can’t think of a better place to go to ask for input on this topic. I’ve started a series on Instagram ( audette_collection ) called “10 Unusual Porsches”. I started with the Zagato 356 Coupe and #2 was the 916. I plan on including one of Emory’s cars and have some other ideas. But I evidently lead a sheltered life as I had never heard of either one of these first two until I recently came across them. So I’m really interested to see what this group comes up with. The more obscure the better.

Thanks!

How about the green "frog' 1989 Porsche Panamera that they gave to Dr. Porsche that he hated. Was the precursor to the 993 Targa sliding glass roof.

For some reason, I’ve always been intrigued by the Porsche 909 (AKA “Bergspyder”). It has a very interesting shape and was built just for hillclimbing. It probably has a special place in my heart as I did a few hillclimbs myself.

Agreed on the bergspyders... there were a couple versions (or same chassis with different bodies?) and I remember one was advertised in the back of Autoweek in the late '80s. The ask was something like $15,000.
There are a couple of coachbuilt examples that come to mind, like the Beutler coupes, or even the Apal sport, sort of a poor man's Abarth. How about Bertone's 911 Spyder of 1966, or Giugiaro's Tapiro? Lotus Esprit whaa?

The Zagato 356 Coupe is a new creation based on the concept of a car never built; and they are building about 10 of them.
The Zagato Speedster was a one-off car built about 1958.
The Abarth Carrera GTL was another car built about 1960.
If you like the 916, then how about the 914S, two unusual 914's with 908 motors, built on prototype 914 chassis, and with very interesting variations.
