Robin Hood Rally, aka Death Race 2010
So has anyone been following this? RHR is a reality TV show that is now filming. It consists of Targa-style closed-public road rally stages, flat-out, fastest time wins. They move around the country and have several events. Overall winner wins a new Ferrari!
So far, so good, right?
Just what would one need to do to enter RHR you ask .....
1. Have a car with or without a roll cage - your choice.
2. Have a car with or without a safety harness - your choice.
3. Have a car with or without a fire extinguisher/suppression system - your choice.
4. Don't wear "flips-flops" for driving shoes - the organizers felt this was important enough to call out to the caliber of participant they expected
5. Have a "reliable and sporty vehicle".
6. Have "some reasonable driver skill." What the hell does that mean?
If you have all of the above, you are now qualified to go flat-out on the public road courses they lay out
In the first event, a participant wrapped his new BMW around a power pole and was airlifted to a hospital.

In last Sat's event, a participant in a 450-HP Corvette lost control (hmmm, 450HP, 2WD on a bumpy, crowned public road with "some reasonable driver skill" behind the wheel ...) at a finish area which the organizers thought would also be a good place to stage EMS and Fire personel (in the EZ up tents) as well as competitor vehicles and spectators about 10 feet off the racing line. By sheer luck, no one but the driver and a parked BMW M3 was injured! Check this video:

This is a total abortion. There are no recognized sanctioning bodies involved and nobody with any rally experience. Someone will be killed before this series is over. Sponsors are starting to bailout. Intercity Transport bailed today. If ever there was a hope to get a Targa-style rally in the United States some day, this will put an end to any hope.
It is supposed to air on Versus.
