Advice on restarting a '68 911 after a COVID induced slumber

Looking for some counsel on how to bring a '68 911 normal back to life. The restoration was finished the week before the pandemic started. Unfortunately I had a double retina detachment and couldn't see well enough to drive, then I got a nasty case of COVID. Needless to say I was distracted and haven't had a chance to even so much as start the car. Looking for advice on what to do before I try and return it to the road. Half a tank of California fuel with Stabil and all fluids changed March 2020. Any ideas? Picture for attention....

T308- you have certainly had enough items to preoccupy you!

Since you state it is a fresh restoration, I would pull out the plugs, give a shot of WD40 in each cylinder, hand turn the engine multiple times to get the oil spread through out the engine.

I would then use the starter and watch the oil pressure. You want to see it rise. Then put the plugs in and see if it will fire up.


Sitting for a year or more is not that long a time.

Let me just add that your 911 looks absolutely gorgeous and it looks like you have some nice driving roads close by. Good luck in getting it up and running again.

Would you be able to share the name of the shop who did your restoration?

I have a green 67 that has been sitting for 20 years in need of a full resto (floors, repaint, etc)

What is the purpose of the WD 40? It is a terrible lubricant and should be ignored. 18 months is not an eternity in car time. Turn the key and start the engine.
