Condoms for wind-duh switches?

Right before the Mighty-Whitey went in for its heart transplant, I was driving through the rain to work. When arriving at the covered garage, to swipe my badge, the driver's window refused to respond. Same for the passenger. After the car sat all day, and presumably dried out, both windows sprang back to life (as fast as 30 year old motors can 'spring'.

I am assuming the short was caused on each switch independently, but don't know it as a fact. I was thinking about wrapping electrical tape around the switch's plug-in but that seems rather lame. Any BTDT?

And for those the least bit tempted; No in advance. I'm not going to pull them weighty monsters out.

I've got a 70 with pw's, the switches have rubbber moulded boots that slip over the contacts at the back, yours might be missing or the boots have worked loose and have fallen down into the door.

You might take a look at the round multiplug that connects all the wires between the leading edge door cavity and the interior under-dash. If it is not quite secure and tight it may allow water in, causing the problem. I think the passenger door switch gets power from the driver side, so one plug could affect both sides.

Just a thought. I have taken both doors apart trying to chase down power window failure spending hours just to find out the plug had worked loose. Doh! :eek:
