Is there someone in our area (MD/PA) that can restore Fuchs alloys to original specs and that would compare with Al Reed or H. Weidman's work? If not, who would you have restore them? I'm about to send a set of five 6x15s out for restoration. Cost is a factor in my decision. What tires would you recommed for average street driving?

Tires, Goodyear Eagle GT's 195-65R-15 at the Tire Rack $75 each. Just have them shipped to your local installer, but make sure they know how to balance them on the early Fuch's!. Nobody compares to Harvey and if you catch him at a slow time he is a little flexible on pricing. Ed Mayo here on the registry suggested the tires to me, I believe he has them on one of his early cars.
Weidman is the man for the "perfect" wheel restoration. I would not short cut..... Al Reed is also very good and reasonable. I believe there is a local shop on the east coast that repairs and re-finishes in the Allentown area. http://www.wheelcollision.com/wccsvcs.htmlQuote:

One of my best friends swears by the place in allentown for his BMW rims. Not sure how they are with restorations, I have seen their work and it is flawlwss. I have a set of flat 6's that i need to get done for a '69 also. Let me knowwhat you are going to do.
As for tires I run Sumitomo 205/60r15 they are very soft, great ride and known as a pseudo track tire. Good for autocross and the street.

I'm currently running 205/60 tires on my Deep Sixes. These are every so slightly taller than the period correct 185/70 size which are now repops from Coker.
While the contact patch is larger than 195 or 185 and side height is very close to correct, they look a bit stuffed onto the wheel so I will probably go down to a tall 195 next go around and see if I can get the dimensions just right.

Just came across your discussion on deep 6's and tyre choice etc. Please excuse perhaps some obvious questions as I am still new to this subject but I am curious to know a few things.
I presume your deep 6's have no bead and were originally run with tubes. Are you still using tubes or not? And if so, with what type of tyres, modern radial tubeless? (I know this is frowned upon from what I have read elsewhere but it appears some individuals risk it).
Basically I wondered how all the people still using OG early Fuchs (4.5 and deep 6 etc) are doing so without any safety issues or problems?
Any information appreciated.

My '67 runs on deep 6's with modern 195/60/15 tires without tubes with no problems. The only issue I ran into was dealing with the valve stems.
If you're not going to run tubes you'll need to install larger / fatter valve stems to fit the stem holes on the Fuchs. The correct valve stem that will properly fit can be bought at NAPA.....the TR415. Not all TR415's will work.....only the ones in the Napa pre-pack work. The difference is in the profile of the base. The 6" Fuchs have such a thick rim, the valve stem cannot engage all the way through the hole and latch on the opposite side. The Napa TR415 is very square in profile which gives plenty of meat to securely capture the inside diameter of the hole. The other TR415's are tapered from top to bottom and would pop right back out of the hole.

I'm also running BF Goodridge G-force 205/60 and is a good all round tire even for spirited driving.
Make sure the installer does not use the "claw" to clamp down your rim - it will leave you with bit marks. Also have the weights mounted on the inner side for a cleaner look.
Also late to this thread. I am using Wheel America in Philadelphia near the airport and have found their work superb. $125.00 per wheel.
