H4 Bulb test conducted in U.K.

I have been told H4 headlamps were not/ are not legal in USA but they are commonplace in U.K. and other countries — this recent test

by Autoexpress magazine in U.K. might be of interest to folks looking for bulbs on countries where legal. It seems these have undergone an objective test to refresh their bulb test of a few years ago.

Here's what Daniel Stern has to say about the Auto Express test:

Years ago the AutoExpress tests were a terrific exemplar of rigourous,
thorough, methodical, objective evaluation. They published detailed
figures for each tested bulb—the filament geometry measurements, the
intensity produced by the test headlamp with that bulb at the various
relevant points, etc. The hyped-up bulbs (e.g., PIAA) were revealed as
the worthless rip-off they are, and plenty of bulbs from legitimate
makers came in for their share of demerits. All of it was presented in a
manner easily accessible even to those who don't know a thing about
headlamps or light measurement or anything like that.

I assume they stopped doing that because it lost them too many
advertisers; now they publish much more nebulous figures of merit, and
give a much vaguer pass/fail on geometry, etc. And—surprise of
surprises—whosever facility they just so happen to be using for a
particular round of tests, that's (fasten your seatbelt) whose bulb
wins! It's a totally random weird coincidence, I'm sure.
