That's funny, Mike, my '72 T was originally a Chicago car, Chassis 9112101014, Engine 6121622
found my hotrod motor, close enough, but still looking for 2.4 case 6121622 72 911t
I, too, no longer have the original motor but do have a '72T motor, close enough, though certainly not hotrod. I wish!
I have a reasonably early 1972. No COA unfortunately, so would appreciate the wisdom of some posters here as well.
Build 10/71
Chassis 9112110339
Engine 6120823 (the 8 is not quite punched evenly, but I'm reasonably sure it's 8)
Thanks!
Chassis 9112110339 and Engine 6120823 appear to be a reasonable match. Getting the equivalent of a CoA is now possible for about the same cost; so you could go that route.
That's great, thanks Dave
It seems like the engine number appears to double the chassis number, plus a bit. The 'bit' gets more pronounced as production continues, less at the beginning.
Not trying to derail this thread..but while I'm here may as well ask...
I have a question about the 'equivalent of the CoA'. I've owned my car for a while and never really bothered about confirming matching numbers, as everything on it seems very original to my eyes. When I ordered a CoA a while back, it turned out you needed a North America mailing address, which I don't have, being half a planet away (but car being sold originally in NA).
My understanding is the CoA replacement, PPS does not have engine/transmission numbers, therefore useless. The awful Classic Technical Certificate (CTC) looks to be a rort, and I'll bet no one here in New Zealand can do it let alone heard of it. So, any better ideas now how to confirm numbers??
Many thanks, Matt
Matt, sent you PM

That is correct. The same engine series is used in both Coupe & Targa, with more Coupe than Targa. So 62% to Coupe and 38% to Targa.
So, since the CoA is gone and the PPS & CTC are rather useless, the Kardex are in high demand for the 356 and 911 & 912 to the end of 69. For the 1970 and later cars I have developed a source to get something equivalent to the CoA of old with as much data as possible. Contact me by email for more info.
thank you so much
