Several Weber questions
I have a new set of webers and an old set.
The new set are not as finished as nicely as the old set.
The old carbs have out-of-round throttle shaft holes. Can this be repaired?
The new carbs are 40 10A 3C1 2 J
The old carbs are 40 IDTP 13C1 1550
What model 911 were these old carbs intended for?
Also, the black plastic spacers between the carbs and head, can theses be made thicker to increase the heigth of the carbs for better top end performance. Or would you just install taller intake manifolds?. Are tall manifolds readily avaiable?
Is there any advantage [performance wise] to taller velocity stacks on the carbs? I remember in the old days these tall stacks were available for 356's.

My handy Porsche Technical Specifications booklet says Weber 40 IDA 3C1 carburetors could be from a 911L (901/06, 901/07, 901/14, or 901/17 engine)
The old carbs are 40 IDTP 13C1 1550
My handy Porsche Technical Specifications booklet says a 911T (901/03 engine) could have had Weber 40 IDT 3C or 40 IDT3C1 carburetors.
My booklet only goes up to 1967.
The only person I know of who fixes out of round throttle shaft or throttle shaft holes is Matt Blast at Eurometrix, 978-448-2557 in Groton, MA.
Matt's a PCA member and works mainly on Porsche applications, and he's considered to be quite good at it.
I had always thought taller stacks resonated at lower frequencies, i.e. lower rpm, but it anybody knows the real answer it's Matt.

I thought Harry Bieker retired. I guess he just moved to another location. Use to be in Burbank, CA next to his son's shop WerksII. Harry did a lot of the machine work on my engine. Very good.

Last I spoke with Harry he mentioned "attempting" to retire...;) He said "that plan wasn't working out all that well". Busier than ever... Come to think of it, what would he have to fix and/or improve upon if he retired??
