Magnesium case for Porsche Historic Racing.
Hello Guys.
Wanted to show you what we are up to.
We are a small Racingteam in Europe, running the Historic Race Series here in Europe with Porsche 911 2.3 ST 1971.

Porsche also did race these cars with the magnesium engine cases and therefore we also have to. But this was 46 years ago.
We are always struggling finding some useable engine cases and make them stand the task. When we finally find some useable cases the pricey bit is all the machine work that goes into make them to racing engines.
And we are seeing most of these mag. cases are becoming more and more fragile and the chance of cracks in these cases after 1 or 2 season is getting more and frequently.

Something had to be done so we looked into the marked to find anyone how produced all new high quality engine cases.
Not such thing existed so we contacted the Historical Committee Europe (under FIA) to whether it was possible to reproduce a engine case and still be able to be approve and participate in the FIA races and the HTP. – Historic Technical Passport . HTP. – Historic Technical Passport are used in Europe as a “stamp” for at the car contains all the correct parts and are authentic in it´s class.
Historical Committee Europe replyed: there is a rule that states” if a part can´t be found and if the factory don´t produce or selling this part no more, A corresponding part can be produced with similar dimensions – appearance and function”
We went to work.

And since alu cases are readily available why would the historical committee allow a newly manufactured case?
Fairly generic drawing. What stage is the project at?
BTW: Welding a plate over the rear webbing almost completely eliminates the possibility of cracking in that area.
Frank.
The historical committee based their decision from a previous approval they have granted permission to manufacture new engine cases for the FORD Escorts BDA - BDG.
Project stage is Drawings and production methods are in place and prototype must be prepared next.
Thanks - Tommy.

I know the work involved and here is the question. Your 3d looks to be done for billet machining? Why dont you push a little more and produce a faithfull replica cast cases? Probably way more easier to recover your investment.
Please post more about it!
Olivier.
Please post more about the 4 cam repo case.? like to see that.
We will machine it from billet as our productions numbers will be low and we believe that the final case will be stronger than by casting.
