sounds not so good at the Moment...
Oh my. Even with a helmet.
Crazy irony here. Praying for the best.
Sounds unbelievable but we had a year in Austria where more People died in the snow then on the road...
All the best to Michael!!!
Its on social media that it was said, "it was only after his head surgery, when things got a whole lot worse."
A coma is never good. My prayers for Michael.
sounds not so good for him at the moment ...
It sounds like he got nearly immediate medical aid and was airlifted within 15 minutes - that is incredible work by the safety personnel at the resort! He was skiing 'out-of-bounds' (off the groomed trails) and although that is within the rules and even promoted at some resorts, it is extremely dangerous. There is little margin when things go wrong - trees, rock faces, unmarked drop-offs, unstable snow, etc. Hoping for the best.
Best wishes to the greatest Formula One Champion!
Induced coma and lowering his body temps...

Very sad. :( And I agree with his wife, the press needs to go!
This blog from Gary Hartstein (ex-F1 Doctor) provides pretty solid analysis... much better than most of the rest of the media's speculations...

Bizarre news account: very confusing.
And it sounds like Massa broke into the medicine cabinet.
Official word is they ARE still continuing the awakening process.
My continued prayers for him and his family,
May the healing continue.
May the victory once again be his to claim ....
Humanity is fragile. This kinda stuff happens all the time to probably tens of thousands of people every day. EVERY day. Let this be a reminder to value every moment we all have our health.
And Amen to that.
'. . . And whereas I worried more than a bit about what was going to happen when and if really bad news got announced, I've realised that perhaps the lack of status updates has given us all a chance to move on a bit, to process what's happening, and to start to... detach . . .'

Wow.......
Yes CNN saying he's out of a coma and heading into -long- rehabilitation phase at hospital in Switzerland.
7 times F1 World Champion!
That would be GREAT news!
Lets not get our hopes up guys....
Why not?
...
I would love to write an exhaustive diatribe right now over this but I'm out chasing crooks and managing a biz.
What if the only thing that happened out of all of this was that Michael's family could visit him 24/7, be next to him, read to him, show new babies to him, caress his brow as he sleeps, tell jokes, share old stories, and just love him? Does he have to "recover" to give credibility and value to his current life?
Would it be so bad to get our hopes up for this?
I dunno man. I highly doubt he would want to be a vegetable being caressed by his family as they read him K-3 books. You are talking about someone who is potentially paralyzed, not someone with permanent brain damage. Showing a kid to someone who is just going to return efforts with a blank stare or 3 blinks for yes, 2 for no is awful. Is it likely Schumacher would want to live this way? I know I wouldnt. Be realistic. Either way, his family should be informing the public more about what is going on. Michael chose to be a public figure and the lack of information lets rumors run. Right now we really dont know, but the assumption clearly is to the worse, not the better.
And that is where you and I differ. As long as machines are not keeping him alive and he can make his own decisions, it's his call.
Me? I would never kill myself; I've had to deal with that before and finding the body has its own problems. It is entirely up to him and the family and frankly THAT IS NONE of the public's bidness.
I put a condition to it:
As long as he can make his own decisions.
If he can't make his own decisions then how would he know he "wouldn't want to live that way"?
Far deeper debate going on here than Mr. Schumacher. Huge emotions and potential spiritual implications involved regarding this topic.
A wonderful topic to discuss. Let's keep going.
If he could make his own decisions, and things were that good, we'd have been told because it would have been good news worth celebrating. Logically It isnt good news. he cant think for himself, and its doubtful to me, that he ever really will.... especially not in the same mind he used to have.
Lets not on that path .... Why?....... Religion/PoliticsQuote:
A wonderful topic to discuss. Let's keep going.
Societies have always put a value on human life.
Slaves were not as valuable as masters.
Commoners were not as valuable as aristocrats.
Babies are not valuable until they come out of the womb. (Unless of course they are "wanted" when inside the womb. For some reason their value increases tremendously at that point.)
People in a vegetative state are not as valuable as they were before their brain injury.
When we start assigning value to another human being it can get dicey. When uninterested third parties do it, it's probably outside of their jurisdiction.
Just because Michael Schumacher was a very public figure before his injury doesn't require that he be one now. Since it appears that his family is calling the shots and making his decisions it is completely and unconditionally up to them as to what they want to divulge to the public.
I suggest we keep praying for he and the family and grant them whatever privacy they want during this time.
the only things that makes us living, and/or different than other animals is our mind. if thats gone we're just a biological machine who's value is -X. X being how much it costs to keep them alive.
BTW: Is the government (tax payers) paying the whole tab?
I dont think thats relevant to the point.
Some pretty heartless and insensitive statements here. He has come out of the coma according to the reports.
I'm sure his family has the best medical care available and deserves to be left alone. They owe us no explanation at all.
And you my friend, are party to this.
Rumors and speculation exist only because people lack the self control to avoid this popular team sport.
I am not casting stones without some self reflection. I have been guilty myself of engaging in it.
The Paul Walker/Roger Rodas story being case in point. I mentioned up front that the CGT had to be going at least double the speed limit (I was correct.) but my reason for speculation was to point out the hazards and irresponsibility of driving like a maniac on the street. My motive was to offer a warning to people.
The Schumacher story does not concern the public in any way. It is simply none of our business.
Only because this discussion exists here, I'm not running around the internet speculating about it or calling my friends like a 50 year old woman to do so. If the family was forthright with whats going on, and whether they should or not is up for debate, rumors would be minimal. Michael is a beloved member of society, its a pity his fans are being kept in the dark to worry.
It now appears, that some idiot has stolen his medical records and is trying to sell them!
lol
I don't believe you
Sad.
How desperate must a person be to think they could pull off a scam like this?
It would be vey interesting to know the man's personal circumstances.
And now the person suspected of stealing them and trying to sell them for not so much cash has committed suicide in police custody... http://www.theguardian.com/sport/201...t-found-hanged
I could be pushing my world belongings in a shopping kart under a freeway overpass and I would still not consider doing anything like that. It is amazing to see, hear what some people do...

'. . . A lawyer for Michael Schumacher and his family revealed that the world champion driver “cannot walk” or even stand more than two and a half years after a skiing accident that resulted in a grave head injury. The lawyer, Felix Damm, made the disheartening admission in a German court as part of a lawsuit against Bunte magazine, which reported last Christmas that the seven-time F1 champ was again mobile.
Bunte had cited a source that Schumacher was able to take some steps and even raise an arm, aided by therapists. When the magazine hit newsstands, Schumacher’s agent, Sabine Kehm, issued a rebuttal statement claiming that Schumacher was still unable to move, stating, “speculation is irresponsible, because given the seriousness of his injuries, his privacy is very importantly. Unfortunately, they also give false hopes to many involved people.”
Following his skiing accident in France in 2013, Schumacher was placed in a medically-induced coma for six months before leaving a hospital in favor of his home in Switzerland. Since then, virtually no information about his condition has been released by his family. At the time of their article, Bunte’s informant was named as “a friend of Schumacher” in the piece, someone who had insider knowledge about his condition.
It seems the trial isn’t expected to swing in Bunte’s favor. ESPN claims the judge presiding over the trial “has indicated damages are likely to be awarded to the Schumacher family in the region of 40,000 to 100,000 Euros.” The official verdict is expected sometime in October . . .'

I think its better to never see him again. It would be too heartbreaking to see him in such a state.
That's all so sad. Sending good vibes to him and his family. He's a strong man and he should make it out of it
No need to worry about that.
I'm sure your friends who make fun of you while you work on your car would not be happy if your family locked you away in an asylum... I can picture them sitting around your wheelchair drinking and making bad jokes at your expense.
'. . . THE long and arduous path to recovery for Michael Schumacher has regularly been referred to as the sporting world’s best kept secret.
The family of the Formula One legend has kept tight-lipped on his recovery from a horrific brain injury suffered while skiing in late 2013.
Lawyers confirmed in 2015 he was “unable to walk or stand alone” and no longer has the use of speech or memory. Now, closing in on five years since the traumatic incident rocked the racing world, fresh details of the seven-time champion’s struggle have emerged via a report from French magazine Paris Match.
Roughly 15 people, ranging from specialist doctors to physiotherapists, take turns in seeing to Schumacher at his home by Switzerland’s Lake Geneva. Therapy sessions include playing sounds of high-pitched F1 engines and encouraging him to steer a Volkswagen Golf around his villa in the hope of reigniting some memory in the 49-year-old.
Daily sessions with physiotherapists have reportedly begun making progress — however small — in the German icon’s recovery. Insiders revealed snippets of Schumacher’s baby-steps rehabilitation, confirming he could “sketch a few gestures in his aquatic pool”.
Two anonymous relatives who visit Schumacher heartbreakingly revealed the racing legend occasionally breaks down in emotion.
“When you put him in his wheelchair facing the magnificent panorama of the mountains overlooking the lake, Michael sometimes cries,” Paris Match reported.
Reports from The Sun in July revealed wife Corinna Schumacher dropped €30 million ($A53 million) on mansion in Majorca.
The huge property, which is near the town of Andratx, reportedly features two swimming pools, a large garden, a helipad, a guest villa and stunning sea views.
It was initially believed the property would be used as a holiday home as the family continues to be based in Switzerland. Family spokeswoman Sabine Kehm denied reports the Schumacher’s would be moving permanently.
The Schumacher family has a longstanding relationship with the Andratx area, often staying at the house of racing manager Willi Weber before Michael’s accident. The affluent Mediterranean municipality often finds itself in the presence of some of the biggest names in German sport, including forme tennis superstar Boris Becker and Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos.
Palma, the capital of Majorca which sits roughly 30km from the estate, is also home to a brand new university hospital and private clinic with specialist doctors.
The fresh insight into Schumacher’s battle came after son Mick shared details of his relationship with his father in an interview with the BBC.
The promising Formula 3 driver hopes to follow his father’s footsteps in becoming a successful F1 driver.
“My dad had a huge influence on my career,’’ he said. “He was my idol and I am following everything he did and see if I can use it myself and I am really happy with that … the goal is to win in F1, that is the aim.
“You still have to show what you can do. That’s my goal. I want to prove that I am a proper racing driver and not only show I have got the same name.” . . .'

'. . . Michael Schumacher health latest: Wife Corinna makes emotional tribute in rare speech
CORINNA Schumacher, the wife of stricken Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher, has made a rare public appearance in order to accept an award on behalf of her husband - taking the opportunity to offer him an emotional tribute.
Mrs Schumacher collected the honorary award from the International Automobile Federation (FIA) racing association - almost seven years on from the skiing accident which left him with serious head injuries, from which he continues to recover. She told assembled dignitaries: "He loved racing so much.
"Michael always had a big heart for people in need."
Schumacher, who inspired the launch of the Keep Fighting Foundation which his family administers, was honoured for his commitment to the FIA's road safety campaigns, as well as for his commitment to charity.
He is understood to have donated more than £15million to charity in his life.
Mrs Schumacher added: "It was a pleasure for him to do all these things.
"With the Keep-Fighting Foundation, we want to continue the things that he initiated."
The event had been scheduled to take place in Munich, but the venue was switched to a Geneva hotel, featuring a handful of guests including Mrs Schumacher herself.
FIA President Jean Todt, a close friend of the family who was head of the Ferrari team during the Schumacher era, was also present.
He added: "Michael was always ready to support anything that helps society."
The evening was doubly special for the Schumacher family given that son Mick also received an award
He was presented with a trophy in recognition of his championship title in Formula 2.
Next season, the 21-year-old is hoping to follow in his father's footsteps when he takes up a seat in an F1 cockpit, driving for the Haas team.
Schumacher sustained his injuries on December 29, 2013, while crossing an unsecured off-piste area between Piste Chamois and Piste Mauduit with Mick, then aged 14.
He was put into a medically induced coma because of traumatic brain injury.
Last year Mr Todt said he was making "good progress" but also "struggles to communicate".
Also last year, he was admitted to the Hospital Europeen Georges-Pompidou in Paris for treatment by cardiovascular surgeon Philippe Menasche, a "pioneer in cell surgery"
The treatment involved him being given an anti-inflammatory stem cell perfusion.
Widely regarded as one of the sport's greatest ever drivers, Schumacher won seven Formula 1 World Championships between 1994 and 2004 - a feat since equalled by the UK's own Lewis Hamilton with his victory this year . . .'
