Can someone tell me which of these wheels are painted correctly? I have 4 with the wide black band and one with the narrow band. They are all deep sixes. Thanks, Mike

wide band is correct, see the unrestored 69 for sale by rennman
Thank you Jim, better to have one wrong than four:)
The wheels were originally painted by dipping. This "dip" created a uniform paint line on the spokes and along the rim. If you look at the height of the paint on the spokes it should be the same along the lip. The narrow band is accurate to the original layout.
Best regards,
Brad
Well, now that clouds the waters. I have seen a video where where someone repainted by dipping, actually they sealed off the backside and then poured paint in from the front and then breached the seal allowing the release of paint thus leaving a uniform smooth line. If the factory painted in a similar fashion then Brad is correct and the paint line on the spokes and the lip would have to be the same. Did they paint all years the same?
If you remove the center cap on one of the wheels with the deep black band, you may see black paint to the same line inside the center hole.
Ok, I just went and inspected the wheels a little more thoroughly. On the wheel with the narrow black band the paint on the spokes comes up much higher than on the shoulder. Clearly this wheel wasn’t dipped, leading me to believe that like Jim said the wide band is correct. Thanks guys.
If you remove the tire, you will see how the wheels were dipped.
These from a very original 9/70 built, '71E that came with 5 deep sixes...
