Karmann vs regular?
Anybody know the difference between a Karmann 911 and a "normal" one? I saw a registry somewhere that had x number of Karmann coupes and x number of "regular" coupes, and I was wondering the difference?
My 911E is a Karmann one, seems pretty well put together, certainly had a lot more spot welds holding its rear parcel tray area together than the one that I got a clip from....wondering if the donor was built later or at a different plant.

I can tell you that I got a driver's door from an allegedly '65 912 (Karmann) because a previous owner had installed an "incorrect" door on my '65 (Reuters/Porsche) 911.
The body shop couldn't fit the Karmann door to my Reuters body, but they did move the lock over. Naturally, they found this out after painting the door.
I guess this is one case of parts failing to interchange--your mileage may vary.
Some long-time Porsche owners told me that Karmann cars were more rust-prone. I don't know if that's true, or if there was ever a valid comparison.
