MFI heat exchanger options: stainless vs steel Dansk vs. Factory

I'm looking for a set of heat exchangers for a 73 RS that includes the clam shell for the extra pre-heat outlet on the driver's side. What I found is this:

-Dansk stainless steel
-Dansk regular painted steel, essentially same price for set as stainless steel
-Factory (dealer) heat exchangers, which might be Dansk anyway, with Porsche markup of about 2X

My question is whether the factory is selling anything different than Dansk, or whether it's just like the dashes- multiple sources but only one manufacturer.

And is there any difference in the function/appearance/performance of any of these options? If the stainless looks the same (once painted or ceramic coated), performs the same, and the price is essentially the same, why would one not go with stainless? Originality maybe? That's pretty much out the door already unless the factory is making the originals again.

Why not get the Dansk SSI's.
If you want original look you can ceramic cot them too. Although they are a thing of beauty bare.

If it matters, remember there was a change in the warm air path from under the car to inside the engine compartment in Jan 23rd of 73. All the new driver side heat exchangers are for cars after Jan 23rd change, which included a modification to engine side sheet metal, and an additional Alu hose. Earlier cars would require a modification to the pre-heat exchanger for correctness. Gled

Interesting to know that the pre-heat path changed. Can you post a photo example of each style?

I don't have examples of both, but originally the hump between #2 & #3 exhaust ports had an intake screen with a small cover over it. The revised version closed off that intake and added the tube that with an Alu flex tube went to a corresponding tube installed in the engine side sheet metal to bring clean engine compartment air into the warm air path instead of the dirty air under the car.
