Basic tune up- plug gap?
I am planning some basic tune up work this weekend before tackling the valve adjustment after that. I have been searching around on Pelican and in the books I have for the recommended spark plug and its clearance. There is a variety of recommendations. In my original 2.0L motor now are NGK BP5ES plugs and the gap is about 1mm (!). My Haynes says that this should be 0.35mm. I do have the aftermarket MSD ignition fitted. Any suggestions please!

Merv, factory spec goes out the window when MSD/Hi6 ignitions are installed. You can open gaps up to 1mm giving your self a nice fat spark.

Yes thanks John. I eventually found that out and I went with 0.05" (1.2mm) and it runs beautifully and revs more freely now. Will check plug colour in a few days.

I am now wondering if the BP5ES is the best plug. Should I be using BP7ES or even the 8ES? (standard 2.0L)
