The wild-West revival of the Mexican Road Race was contested last week and the rules allowed several long-hoods into the field (Mexico still seems to follow the "Golden Rule": if you have Gold, you Rule). Of course, 911's never contested the original Carrera Panamericana from 1950-1954, but Porsche's 1953 win with a 550 in the "Small Sports Car" category became a part of the company heritage still seen in model nomenclature today. It's been decades since I've done any driving deep in the Mexican interior, but I remember interesting roads shared with "interesting" traffic. The revival has been staged since 1988 and looks like quite an adventure.
