I'm surprised that comment of being a 'drummer' got under his skin. A worse temper, Buddy Rich usually tolerated Bobby Shew's jab, "Play the drums, let us worry about the music.." until it was said around press people one day.
"That's it, you're gone". .fired him.
My guess is that “drummer” was fine, but “MY drummer” was not acceptable.
Stumbled onto this clip by coincidence today...(Broadcast date: October 26th, 1993)... ~21Minutes and it's worth it...
