Mr 914-6 and I discussed this a bit on the Pelican board and I thought I would throw it on here too.
When I start my 70 "S" when it is cold outside (40 degrees or less) t run extremely rich. It chugs like a top fuel car and loads the plugs. Car runs very clean when it is warm but is excessivly rich when cold. Is there any way to adjust the amount of choke on that bimetal thermostat? Thanks
Is your hot air tube coming up to the thermostat kinked and/or is your thermostat working?

While in the engine to do chains, tensioner, idlers, sprockets etc. we kept the sheetmetal off of the engine lto check for any leaks.
We had to run a heat gun to blow hot air into the opening of the thermostat to cause the "lean out" otherwise we would have choked on blue/black smoke. It was pretty funny at the time but I definitely know that mine is working.
Check out the muffler "testing" installation. You can watch the tensioners in action with the car's arse in the air and still be able to hear. Also, again, aids in looking for leaky covers and you don't have to disassemble the car if there is one because you don't have any sheetmetal or muffler to fight.
We had a party this past weekend and I cannot count the number of odd looks the muffler got. Some knew it was wrong and some just could not figure it out.
