LeMay Museum . . .
Took some vay-kay up the Northwest, coupla weeks back. Heard about this place before, so on my way back? . . . thought I'd swing by + check it out
Not that familiar w/Seattle --- only passed through a time or two in the past . . . but the facility is HUGE, and right across from the Tacoma Dome . . . which makes a great landmark if you're about to get lost in Seattle traffic
Good-sized parking area, well-attended

Billed as 'America's Car Museum,' the facility houses the 350-car (!) collection of Harold LeMay, who made his fortune in the trash collection business . . .
http://www.lemayinc.com/
Oooooh --- the irony
Nice place, really BIG and v tidy. There are little viewing areas with short video displays going on around the place --- one of them about Mr LeMay. Quite a character . . . and a good guy. Had fun
Anyway, here's the lobby
The focus of the collection looks to be on American cars --- note the Franklin (?) . . . but --- there was a display of Alfa-Romeos going on, that I wanted to see. Don't know much about Alfas but always been curious about/interested in them. Missed the placard on this --- sorry . . . but looks like a split-diff on this
Oh-yeah --- check-out the walls

. . . big display of Saleen cars --- including a 'Saleen 1' . . .
. . . never heard of it
More, here . . .

I dunno. Everybody's sports car 's starting to look like a hyper-car, any more --- + some of these seem a just liiiiiiiitle outta touch? . . . as in zero acknowledgement of any environmental concerns . . . eg no mention of MpG or carbon emissions
Then/again --- maybe I'm just grouchin' 'cause there's no place for a dog
Anyway --- like the flush door handles . . . but I'm so done with center-outlet exhausts
Cop car Mustang --- for laughs, I'm sure . . . but talk about every speeder's nightmare? . . .
. . . and I'm gonna gonna guess/hope the sentiment on the side is light-hearted
(Gulp!)
And PS --- check-out those walls (!) . . . is this place awesome or what?

Sign says 8C 2300 --- = '8' = straight-eight, 'C' = compressore = super-charged . . . too bad they didn't display the engine
Sorry. Could give 2 sh!ts about Ferrari's involvement, here. I say toss me the keys, open the garage, and let's take this little missile out for a trot around the block. I know - I know --- priceless piece o' history, worth zillions, 'Enzo' whatever, blah, blah, blah
What would it feel like to take this old dragon down any highway --- or city street, country road? . . . tires sliding, engine howling, super-charger (+ me!) screaming. Open cockpit, no muffler or seat belts --- just watch-out for rocks zinging off those front tires . . . THAT would be fun
Instead? --- seeing this Old Monster sitting here, all calm and stately . . .
. . . display, huh?
Feels like a funeral

. . . Alfa Romeo GTAm
Never even heard of this model before = why I go to car museums
Autodelta badging --- = semi-factory tuner/builders . . . + looks like a real little bad-ass . . .
Love the pop-riveted fenders + Campy (?) wheels --- have 13-inchers ever looked sooooo good? . . . + just check out that rubber!
Again, wish the engine was on display

. . . even more Alfa Romeo
Seen this kinda car before --- 1900 SS . . . earlier 50s. Like the shape + proportions of the cab --- handsome-enough car, I suppose . . . but looks kinda big for a 4-banger
Then/again, park this next to a contemporary Shoebox Chevy
'Superleggera' badge on hood = panels-over-tube-frame construction, so prolly lighter than it looks?

. . . Zagato's take on the 1900SS --- now SSZ
Guessing this is alu-paneled, but then/again . . . just the presence of their little thunderbolt-thingy on the flanks of a wash machine would make it special
Me? . . .
. . . Meh
It's not that this isn't a pretty car . . . it's just that my perspective of Zagato is colored by this little gem . . .

. . . another Alfa --- Giulia 'Super' sedan
Didn't see many of these in my neighborhood, growing up. (Can't recall EVER seeing one 'till a Cars & Coffee, coupla years back) Not exactly a lovely thing to look at, is it?, but --- always read about their performance . . .
. . . which made me think of this . . .

Yeah-yeah --- 'AT ones 's a Lancia (?) . . . but there's something about little weedy sedans that you can drive the snot out of
