best inertia reel belts for a '72 coupe

we are going to replace the '$5 dollar shop' static belts in a '72 911 E coupe and would like to know which are currently the best/most convenient to use and install on a street car
we have been pointed in the direction of 944 belts but want to check the best options before buying & installing
Porsche belts are preferred as are the top release buttons
has anyone done this excercise recently ?
we have some pics of the mounting points but would like more info
also anything to avoid ?

You can mount most any you want. The 944 belts are cheap, easy to install, and work well. What you'll want to do is remove the tongue from the 944 belt and replace with your own.

I actually have some of stretch's fabric installed on a 944 reel with a repa tongue in my targa. I have the original autoflugs but they don't work as well and they'd be hidden anyway. The set-up is indistinguishable from a factory correct belt, but functions better. The period inertial reels still require a guiding tension being pulled out and let back. The 944s work flawlessly.

I bought some NOS ROW inertial reels with the yellow tracer from Dirk for my RS clone. Those work too, and are easy to install, but are a little more money. I personally prefer the correct static belts, but grew tired of every single passenger having a panic attack getting in my car when they couldn't adjust the static belts to their satisfaction.

All depends on how anal you want to be. For 72/73, you need the press receivers and tongues, plus whether it is US or ROW for the belt fabric and the alarm. Your car may need the floor mount brackets, as well as the brackets for the inertial reel.
