rear view mirror
My 911 has been on jack stands for awhile. This was prompted when the drop link came undone from the rear sway bar and started clunking under the car. Luckily, I was near home. While I was at it, I tackled a few other problems, such as torn CV boots and oil leaks. But the car wants me to do more, I guess.
Yesterday I found the interior rear view mirror sitting next to the gas pedal. Question: how to stick it back onto the windshield so it will stay there for awhile? I have a feeling double sided tape at the local hardware store won't do the trick.

Rear View Mirror
Get the adhesive pad from the dealer or an after-market Porsche parts supplier. Should be less than five bucks.
It was theorized that some clown had reattached the mirror on my '73S coupe with epoxy. Sure enough, the windshield developed a stress crack a few inches from the mirror.

Charlie,
3M makes a 'high tack' - Black double sided tape that will do the trick ... it comes in 3/4 " so you have to put two pieces together to get the weigh.......... or .... order a rear view morrior 'tape pad' from Perfromance - it's the same stuff, cut to the exact shape.
Part # 903110 $4.95 + tax + shipping
Hope this helps,

Thanks guys,
Now if only it were that easy to tackle these oil leaks.

I just ordered an early mirror adhesive pad from Pelican. $3.60 if I remember correctly. Of course that doesn't include the "as long as I'm ordering I may as well get... " purchases.
FYI - the best way to remove your old mirror (that is if you don't find it on the floor) is to carefully heat the outside glass with a propane torch. Mirror will fall right off with pad attached.
Putting any localized pressure on old - or even new glass by prying is a risky proposition. Windshields crack very easily from pressure on the inside plane.
