Who says they are not? :) This year, Timo Bernard is running the German national rally championship and Romain Dumas is running the French championship - both in 911 GT3s and both factory Lemans drivers. Combine this with the recent approval by the FIA of the new R Gruppe (yes!) for GT cars to run in WRC/IRC events and one has to wonder if they are planning something .... tarmac-only events like Monte Carlo and San Remo most likely.
There have also been privateer Caymans running in the Belgian championship.

Basic rules of the new R Gruppe class:
- A car driven by one axle without turbochargers
- Standard engine
- Maximum power 400 hp with restrictor or two 43 mm 31 mm restrictors
- Maximum speed 180 km / h
- Maximum six-speed gearbox (no sequence)
- Minimum weight of 1200 kg, maximum weight 1400 kg
- The minimum weight of the car using the ratio of 3.5 kg per 1 horsepower
- Suspension and shock may be only at the level of serial car
- Standard brakes, allowed additional cooling pipe with a diameter of up to 10 cm
- Rules for the body similar to Group N (with a few exceptions). Group N requires series homologation of body panels.
