What plugs should I use ?

I have a 2.2t engine with a few mods. Running solex cams, IDT 40s. S type P&Cs and Bosch E dizzy.
SSIs with a Dansk twin pipe Stainless steel box.

My plugs are a little black, currently running BPR7ES NKG plugs. Do I need to change the type of plug.

Are you getting a spark plug related miss? You probably have a combination of events, engine a little rich, spark plug a little cold for your driving, unleaded gas, you may not have done a full throttle run, then cut the engine off and pulled a spark plug right there, all of which will make for a "little black" spark plug. Since you may spend time with "city" driving try a one step hotter BPR6ES spark plug. Or you could try to make your jetting more perfect, or if it isn't causing a problem leave it all alone. If I check my spark plugs after a cross country freeway drive they will tend towards dark brown, if I check them after putting around town they will be blacker.

I must admit I'm more around town at the moment. Yes I'm getting a little misfire at times so may opt for a hotter plug to see if it helps. Last week my car was running a little rough, I removed the plugs on the drivers side (RHD) they were rather black. I cleaned and put them back. It cured the misfire. I'm thinking I try another plug like you said and see if it helps the car.

Give the NGK BP6ES plugs a try as Ed suggested especially if you a putting around town. I found them to work better for me as well, also if you can find non ethanol gas use it, my Webers run smoother with it.

Also what grade/octane gas are you using? I don't see any need for higher octane unless you have high compression, run your car very hard and are in a hot climate.

Hello David,

did you use BPR6ES or BP6ES, do you know the difference, they also do a Bosch equivalent.
New to this. Do I need to set the gaps on these plugs... Or are they plug and play.

I use the BP6ES and gap them at .30, they come pre gapped pretty close to .28 but check to be sure. I believe the R is for resistor which doesn't matter for my use. I prefer the NGK to the Bosch and they are only around $3.00.
