Road tests examined the 210bhp, 150mph road car's performance, magazines hailed it as one of the greatest Porsche 'specials,' and rumour says that the last front-engined models could have threatened the sales of Porsche's flagship 911, causing the 924 Carrera to be 'killed off.' My buddy was building up a 924 Carrera replica back in the early 80's. He did everything right on that car and it would have been a real head turner. Unfortunately the night before it was to go into the paint shop it was lost in a fire and burned to a crisp. After haggling with the insurance company he finally got his money and then bought a Sunbeam Tiger. But still a heart breaker after all these years.

They were cool cars but I guess 924's are to Porsche owners what TR7's are to Triumph owners. Same thing with both the 924 and TR7 - excellent competition history including SCCA DP class racing, but neither car gets any respect. At least the 944 and TR8 variants are somewhat more appreciated.

I didn´t know or care much about this model until one of my buddies over here got one. Now I think they are great!

I've driven a 924 GT Club Sport briefly. Very light and responsive - a super rare and cool '80s Porsche.

I've often thought of building a clone. Actually I could probably do a SCCA DP clone easily.
