I have the hose in black & in bulk. I thought the brown was used for the inside heater ducts...is this incorrect.
That's my take also, black rear heater hoses, brown at the fresh air vent system under the dash, but I have seen a brown hose used from the air cleaner snorkle to the heater tube stub on the right side rail.
I too need these. I would call them a browny black color. I heard the only way to get the "proper" colored ones was to order directly from Porsche. So far the usual suspects have all told me theirs are silver, shinny black or card board tan. Would love it if anyone has solid info here.
These were taken from someone's 914/6 Pbase website. If the owner is offended I am happy to remove them. These look like what we are discussing here.

Hi Mark-
Yes, those were taken from Armando Serrano's 914-6 GT website. He's a good friend of mine, I don't think it's a problem. In fact he's looking for the brown hose as well. My 71' 914-6 (purchased new and still have her) had the brown hoses both up front under the dash and in the engine compartment. I think the hoses in the engine compartment see much more wear and tear so the black ones found their way into the engine compartment over the years causing the confusion. There is a light brown hose available but it's more of a tan color, closer but still not 100%. I'm off to LA tomorrow to meet Armando and driving up to Laguna Seca for Rennsport, I can post some pictures after I return.
Thx,
Bernie
I thought they all started as black and eventually turn brown
In my quest for the proper early brown hoses I bought a set of the new issue lighter tan colored hoses from SM. I then rubbed clean motor oil on my hands and worked it into the tan paper hoses to darken ithem up. It actually worked pretty well but now the hoses have lightened up a bit over the past few months since my oil massage technique. Maybe I should have used some slightly dirty oil. I was also thinking something else might work to darken the tan hoses like sprayed on varnish or Vaseline. It's worth a try, the new hoses are about 7 bucks a pop IIRC.

Since I started this thread and read what everyone has said, this is what I have done.I also purchased the hoses from SM,I then bought some Fiebings dye.I bought the regular brown color and used some rubber gloves and a wool dauber to dye them,2 coats and let them dry and you cannot tell the difference from the factory color.
