Do you know these cars?
After lurking for some time I'm starting to gather my courage and seriously consider starting down the slippery slope and buying an early 911.
I'm still in learning mode and wondered whether people on the registry know either of these two cars and/or have views on them?

Welcome to the Forum Nick!
You'll this group is never at a loss for a keen eye and opinion on these cars. Remarkable what some see while others (including myself) can just pass over in a photo.
Searching the chassis number on the internet often brings up interesting results. Not always, but often.
Good luck in your search.

Welcome Nick.
Although not familiar with either car; if you're looking in the $100k mark, you have every right to be extremely picky ;) And we're here to help...

Thanks for the welcome!
John, I am slightly stunned by the way prices of good early 911s have moved in the past couple of years, especially at the independents like Classic Throttle Shop. So you're right, I need to be patient and picky . . . which isn't always easy when you have the bug. I may be smarter to wait for a really good privately owned car to come along, but that means lots of patience!!
I do like the look of the cream 1970E (which is at Healey Factory in Melbourne). Am hoping someone knows the car and can give me an opinion(s).

The front spoiler on the 1970E is not correct. It was introduced in 1972 for 2.4S and optional on the other models. The engine air intake is not correct too.

On light ivory '70 car the stereo and rear seat belts are not correct. '72 Sepia right foglight is missing its seal or painted over, rear seatbelts incorrect (look like front seatbelts), incorrect stereo and repro gear shift knob. These cars should be perfect for that kind of money, but it is supply and demand I guess.

Hi Nick,
Can I ask what your intended use is? Daily driver / weekender / car shows / motorsport etc
From the images, both appear to generally be very nice cars and have a lot of positives - Aussie del, matching numbers, MFI etc. They will drive a little differently - one has a "dog leg" first gear and one doesnt. One is short stroke one (revvier) and one is long stroke (torquier).
If I was you I would test drive both as a first step and see if you prefer the feel of one over the other. E.g. some folk hate dog leg gearboxes whilst others love them.
Second step is an inspection by an independant shop (possibly even two - a panel guy for rust rust rust and a mechanic for engine/box) and a review of all records (one man's full engine rebuild is another man's new set of rings...).
Finally, although brown is a having a bit of a resurgance at present longer term it will probably always limit your resell market.

--Ryan, will be primarily a weekender, but over time would like to develop it to car show standard.

--Agree, and tbo it's not a colour I love. I suppose I could eventually do a full repaint but that's expensive (not to mention blasphemy among the purists!)

If you want to get such a pricier car to start with and then repaint it you may need to change your username to npvnegative :)
