questions on setting voltage on SEV Marchal VR
I've acquired a SEV Marchal voltage regulator (goes with the Marchal alternator) for my 73.5T that works, but reads 14.8V at 4K rpms, which is too high. I've read all the threads I could find as well as the FWM but have a couple of questions. First, I've seen references to adjusting the set-point to various values, but nothing that I took as definitive. Does 14.0V seemed like a reasonable value? The car currently has a single lead-acid battery.
Second, what's the best way to adjust the spring tension, and by how much at a time (figuring I'll need to sneak up on it)? Would bending the lower spring mount work? Or would it be better to do something with the spring itself? I assume I can install the VR on the car with the can off so that I can adjust the voltage in situ until I get the set-point right (with the battery disconnected, of course).
