I bought an engine lid strut that literally throws the lid up so hard, I feel like its stressing the rear shelf. I guess it's a 'super duty' strut. It's near-new.
I need something more standard: my lid is just a basic '72 lid with not a lot of extra paint or filler, and so it's pretty light.
I did the same thing. I thought the lid was going to get whiplash! It was removed fast.
I know, right? I wonder if there are a lot of lids out there with 5 lbs bondo and paint...? I got tired of putting a big stack of towels on the lid before pulling the release!Quote:

I know what you mean. I bought one of the heavy duty Welmeister versions for my '71 and with the lid closed it twists to the right. I gotta' check to make sure I didn't put a front strut on the deck lid (if that's possible). I've been meaning to remove it...
You may have the strut for cars with AC or a tail:

I just bought front hood struts and a rear deck lid strut from my local dealer and they work great.they are not as stiff as some of the aftermarket ones.the hood stays up just fine.

We sell Stabilus brand as we've generally had very good luck with those. They make two different pressures for the front, Standard (376N) and HD (430N). For the cost of these and other brands sell for I'd be surprised that any of them are using state of the art seals so it's inevitable that they'll not last forever. Cold weather really puts them to the task so we store them in a warm location in our South Texas warehouse :D
