Brings back fond memories, Raj. A close friend fresh out of the Air Force bought one in 1972, which he promptly tricked out in the latest (then) JDM speed equipment. IIRC Janet Guthrie's NARRC winner sold a few years ago and is currently being run in vintage. Great little cars, who knows what might have been had Toyota matched the support BRE got from Datsun.
These have definately garnered a cult following in the past few years, particularly the early cars.

I love this thread! The Japanese made some interesting, funky, and awesome cars; something for everyone. From Honda's tiny 600-series cars with their motorcycle-like 9000rpm engines to the Datsun roadsters, 510s, and Z-cars, Toyota's 2000GTs, Celicas, and Supras, to Mazda's Cosmo and RX-7s, and Acura's Integra Type-R (OMG...drive one!) and the lovely NSX. I probably missed something in that list but the point is they built these cars for different reasons and markets and most of them had somebody pounding them around racetracks. Some with great success.
Raj, I'm with you on the early Celica. A good-looking small car with lots of potential for sport. I would love to find a nice one of those and a nice 510. They are out there but tough to find and getting more expensive. I have looked at several very nice 510s with asking prices in the low to mid teens. A real nice one will bring that kind of money.
For now I make do with a '74 260Z. Showing 28,xxx miles (appears to be correct) and mostly original paint, and having 5 original date-coded RD-150 tires. It still smells kinda newish...
