1968 S VIN details
Hi,
I am looking at a 1968 S and wonder about the correct VIN 11800XXX details on the car.
The aluminum plate at the front latch panel has '911S' and the VIN without the 'S' stamped into it, correct?
The VIN on top of the tank inside the trunk is without a 'S'?
The a-post tag has the VIN as well without a 'S', correct?
What about the number on the knee pad panel? I think up to model year 1967 you will find there the VIN, if it is a S then with a 'S' at the end.
From 1968 on I am not sure. Is it the VIN (with or without the 'S'?) or the production number. If it is the production number, how can I check if it is the matching one? A Kardex won't show it, doesn't it?
Thanks
Michael

I was about to post a very similar request for a car I am working on stateside. It would be helpful for me if someone would post pictures of unaltered vin stamps for both the radio area and the under hood area. Specifically for 1968 911 S

The model is stamped into the Typ box and coded into the VIN (Fahrgestell Nr.) thus the extra S used in 1967 is not required. The production # on the dash frame (knee panel) is still the VIN in 1968, so is coded with the model type.
